Sensitivity in Our Movies

by AK » Wed Mar 05, 2003 6:43 am

I live in USA but am a big movie buff. Of late, watching hindi and telugu movies, I was shocked to see the themes they are dwelling on. And looks like cruder the better - all in the name of comedy. I always thought this was more a illness plaguing tamil cinema but I was so wrong. Coming of age movies need not always be crass, they can be handled sensitively and they are not always about getting \"that first\" experience. If the viewer needs American Pie sort of comedy, he/she can watch the same. Our directors do not have to compete to make poor copies of it and thrust it over us - its neither healthy nor realistic. Believe me, I am NOT a prude though!
