Wishing you a realistic and productive Valentines Day

by vivek of themavericks » Thu Feb 06, 2003 3:19 pm

Evolution is because grownups lie. To coverup that lie, many more lies are spoken. This gives birth to needs and then inventions happen. - Fake author.
Its actually true, someone cooked up the story that earth is flat, so men with lot of time in their life wanted to prove it wrong and rest is history. I feel that the entire concept of Valentine\'s day is crazy. At least as per the manner we interpret (as if we do). But who cares, its a day to observe and make a fashion statement!. And who was St. Valentine? \" Are une Jesus Christ ka chota bhai tha na...\" mumbled an aquaintant of mine, who by the way is planning to \'propose\' a character on that valentine guy\'s birthday. But, all those forced Bachelors need not loose heart, i have a better plan for you all. The following is the check list who you should carry with you and i bet you would end up feeling that, all these couples you get too do everything except singing duet songs. So lets start
One - The guy on a yamaha with his GF sitting and covering her face with her dupatta and hugggggggging him bigtime. The guy drives slow cause, he does not to hurt the girl and the girl wants to be on a date but does not want to be seen by others! - How dumb
Two - The guy borrowing money from his pals to finance a gift (a gun metal bracelet or a ceramic cup that says \" I love you\" duh!)which he wants to give her on the V- day. Now this gift would be some 1000bucks, which he would never repay in the life time of his love affair (say 6months).
Three - The guy and the girl sitting a coffeeshop and sipping each other\'s coffee. Perhaps a conversation like this would also accompany \" See sweetheart, when we get married, i want you to do the chaaru and sabji, while i do the pappu pulusu..ok?\".\" Sure, anything for you my dear\".Observe next year and neither the pulusu nor the pappu would be there, the coffee shop would continue to sell coffee to newer dreams - Thats life!.
Four - Telugu movies dubbed in Hindi would run to packed houses and a pack of popcorn would be sold at 20bucks, still there would be boy friends ready to buy them.Borrowed money from his friends you see!.
five - No parking space available in any resturants and you can\'t take your date in an auto or a bus ( says who?). Adding salt to the injury would be the fact that, those inside the resturants would not vacate for long time. If you can solve this predicament, tell us all how?
Six - Promises or promisses would be made by the guy - \" never would we part no matter what comes our way \". Sound filmy but this happens and the only thing different from the films is the fact is that you don\'t go to a garden and dance after the promise is mutually agreed.
I know this board makes no sense at all, but its just that i have received 24 emails from you guys asking me why have i restricted to asnwering boards rather than starting an \"interesting\" board. You see guys, i am not against this Valentine thing, but be sure you get booked with someone you can talk. Because, conversation is the only thing that is going to hold your relationship together after you have tried all \" stunts\" you get to see in movies.

WISHING YOU ALL A REALISTIC AND COST EFFECTIVE VALENTINES DAY!

Hey vivek,
It might be my mistake, but somehow in both your boards related to this Valentine\'s Day, I felt that you have portrayed boys as poor innocent guys and victims of selfish money-sucker girls who try to take max advtg of the boys and their purses on that particular day. Is this just becoz you are a guy or cud the reason be something like you could not find a girl for Valentine\'s Day and it is coming out this way? Can I know the reason?

No its none of what you said, its just a general observation. Its just a matter of fact. If boys are victims then so be it. It does not matter, so this who evolution thing. Males are always known to take the first step in a male - female relationship. be it larget animals like elephants or smaller one like the worker ants. This fact applies to humans as well. My point is not to vent anything, i just described a fact. My board portrays a fact which everyone gets to see if one remains observant. And about the second aspect, its not a big deal to get a girl for a date for the valentines. I just don\'t dig it!.Because, if we can find 50 women to answer our survey, we can as well find one for a date atleast for that day. Atleast i see it that way!

May be becoz I am female and that is making me think from the other side of the coin.I know that its not a big deal finding a girl and I am pretty sure that its the same for girls also.May be if I had time I would also have taken the same number of males for a survey and cud have justified my statements.Ok, a thought just passed thru my mind, who knows , yours cud be a fake survey(i am trying to be frank, dont take it seriously)and that way even I can give any number of interesting facts.Well, let me not get beyond this point becoz that will not make sense any more and it wud look like I am writing here just for the sake of argument.

No, not at all. I think make sense in what you thing. My survey would be a fake one, i would have just cooked up the whole damn thing!. Only that, i did\'t!. You see, if i hd to cookup, i would have said a survey of 500 women, why 50 women!. The only thing which rings a bell always is, that all the 50 women posted thier filled up questionaire in 50 days!. Tell you what, if you do a survey like we did and do it for boys, you are going to get mushier answers!. Try taking time out sometime in life and do that survey.

Vivek, first you say that you find the very concept of Valentine disgusting and then in the same post you claim that you have nothing against VD…how lame!! If you detest VD so much then why start cribbing about it and let the whole world know how cool you are by doing so ?? and whats with all that “clever observations” you made ??either you are watching way too many bollywood movies or you must be really regressing your past, and use it to shape your posts.

Nope it has nothing to so with my past or anyones past. Its just a matter of observation. What i meant was that if honest couple feel Vday as a day to celebrate what they have between them, then so be it. But, that happens more often than not. What actually happens is this tag along couple mentality, which is artificial at the same time amusing. Some times stupid things become interesting to watch. Thats it!

After reading thackeray\'s statement on V\'s day, I had some second thoughts. What he said is very much true, westeners\' dont even know about festivals like \'rakshabhandhan\' etc , but why are we following their\'s?Why are we struggling so hard to be like them?Gradually, our festivals are being neglected and their special days like mother\'s day, father\'s day, V\'s day etc are gaining lot of popularity and participation in our country.Isn\'t that bad?

Ya and to add to it, don\'t be in for a blank face if Hallmark and archies \'invent\' new days to sell their garbage like \" Break -up\' day, Patch up day. Makingout day and what not. By the way, how about having a breakup day!. Keep this day twice a year.

ideally, everyday should be mothers day/fathers day. but we dont live in a ideal world. so is it wrong to have a day which we can speacially dedicate to our parents?? so what if it has its origins in the west. i couldnt care less if this practice originated in outer space. and if they dont know our festivals... then i suggest you show them some pity... for be it diwali/sankranti/holi... they are just as much fun (and arguably more) as their christmas. and val day is just a good excuse for the single among us.. (ahem!! i am still single so if any girl is looking... :) )... to find someone special and those who are already \"hooked\" to reiterate their \"love\". now why is that so bad??

Vibhuti has a great point about the surveys. The 50 out of 50 responses that Vivek got breaks every single statistical record that any statistics professor has ever known. This reminds me of Saddam getting 100% of the vote (actually his chieftains said 99.99%). Just go ask ANY person who has conducted legitimate surveys and ask for \"what percent of responses did you get?\" The standard answer, demonstrated time and time again, is around 35%. 50% at best. And I am not talking a thousand surveys. Just 50 to a 100. This again goes back to my question to Vivek which he conveniently avoided - where did the 17% come from regarding food on airplanes.

Look there is no generic rule like you said about surveys. The response to surveys is a fucntion of how accurate you were with picking your target population. Before conducting surveys you should know who are your people. Then design a questionaire which adds to the purpose of the survey. If you have these things straight, the you may have amost 100% response. Now i \'target audience\' was accurate. I knew these women would for sure respond. however it would have been wrong on my part to expect them to asnwer all the questions, which anyway did not happen. Now all women answered all the questions. The survey questionaire should also be easeir to answer and not ask for too much of writing. The saddam example was a wrong one, that was election turnout, NOT an exit poll result, an exit poll is close to being a survey. That 17% statistic about the airline costs breakup was published in the Mckinsey quarterly report. It was sometime in 2002 mid, try here http://www.mckinseyquarterly.com.

I thought you knew that V day is not just for singles. Here everybody celebrate V day irrespective of their age.Brothers give V day card to sisters, children to their parents, etc etc. There is nothing like only a single male/female has to celebrate V day with his/her friend.
