Career for a dynamic person - Part time business

by Ravi Shankar » Mon Feb 03, 2003 1:09 pm

Friends! I am from Andhra and I have toured Hyd, Vijayawada, TP Gudem, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. Every where people are talking about exciting business opportunities like Empower India, Netizen, ebizshoppers, FIC, Swadeshi, Amway, Quantum, Stride etc. I have listened to most of the concepts as i am keen to some thing fruitful. I feel that though all concepts and MLMs will definetely be having worthy ideas behind them but one should be suitable to do that particular type of business. In this context, I have found out one particular MLM type of business with 23 years experience is ideal for me. Because I was looking for reputation of company, approved products and most importantly longevity of the company internationally and the returns what I can get for my efforts. I would like to share and listen from others if like minded people would enlighten me more about this subject.

MLM is the acronym for Multi-Level Marketing. it can also be called a \'Pyramid Scheme\'. Amway is a good example. It goes like this. You are sought out by a person \"A\" who recruits you and promises heaven to be at your doorstep in about two months. But you need to sell some home-base appliances or consumer products. If you make a 10 ruppe profit, you keep 2 (or somethin like that) and give 8 to the guy who recruited you. That person keeps 2, gives 6 to his recruiter (who I am sure has a great title like Assistand Ditector) who in turn gives to his boss. You get the picture. Now to get yourself promoted, you need to recruit 8 people each of who recruits another 8 and so on. You see the Pyramid. This is a bunch of bull business. You have to suck up to (a) sell your products and (b) sell the business idea to some dumb fellow. Now, Vivek you and I will not fall to this .. and I would bet all people on this board are smart enough to not fall into this trap either. MLM sucks. I was almost bought into one, but sensed the headaches that come with this. But that is my thought. I am sure someone will disagree with me.

It does not suck that bad as you have put it. I knew the concept but the name \" MLM\" is news to me. Well, Amway is doing pretty well and so is Eureka forbes, by this direct selling. The problem started with these wrist watch sellers, agarbathi sellers who play havoc with the entire business idea. Large multinationals have been pracaticing this so called MLM strategy and made money. 3M did this and did well. But this type of job has no growth, at least the chances are dismal.

Career for a dynamic person - Part time business

Well, I met a guy last Friday and was discussing his trip to USA from India for training at Intel. It was a formal discussion like the one you would have with a person you just met, however, he convinced me to have coffee with him and discuss a \"business opportunity\" for me. It never struck me that this guy has the same plan that I have been hearing about from guys who I met in malls, restaurants and public places here in US (all Indians) because he just came from India ( I didn\'t knew that its big in India) So, we met again at a place and there you go! same old thing.
But, here\'s what I think of this whole business.
It must be working! the idea is to avoid chains of overheads in reaching the customer with a product, example, Marketing and advertisement expenses, employee expenses, sales channels etc and sell it cheap.
