I am proud of being Indian...are you?

I got this in an email and I know most of the information here is dated and may not hold true anymore. But it still makes me proud. These facts and figures are just the tip of the iceberg, the list could be endless. But, if we don’t see even a glimpse of that great India in the India that we see today, it clearly means that we are not working up to our potential; and that if we do, we could once again be an ever shining and inspiring country setting a bright path for rest of the world to follow. Let us all in our own small but significant way work towards the welfare of India, our India.

Garv se kaho ham Bhartiya hain!

Yes, it\'s good to know all this. The United States would probably have President Reddy in a decade\'s time, who\'d probably mumble, \"I now officialy take the honour of being the world\'s first President of the United States of Andhraites... er, er... hey where\'s the script?\" Cause, today we have propogated so much that, it\'s now called University of India at arbana-champaign! But all you good-for-nothing desis out there who just went cause you had money or some chacha sponsored or just tagged along, please stay there, don\'t come back.

however many facts and figures you give, i am not that proud to be an indian. That too after taking birth as a female. Everyday, rather every hour, u have some news from some corner of this country where a girl has been victim in some aspect. recent one is, the arunachal pradesh minister\'s son with his friends rapes a 13yr old - i. e. may be a 7th or 8th class old girl. gangrape on such a young girl! can such things happen anywhere other than in india? I think its a curse to be born in india. A curse! And even more worst wud be for those women born as dalits. I just hate this country.

You are kidding, peeping tom, the population of India will never touch 30 crores, may be it will touch 300 crores for sure...with so many illiterates/fanatics, and excessively religios obsessed people around who think that giving birth to a child is all nothing but GOD\'s will...
and dont ever take your chances of trying even to talk with these ppl about birth control, those ppl will kick you black n blue........and the irony is that all the above mentioned ppl are not in India....so the epitome is India will always be a poverty stricken country, thanks to her partial democracy and pseudo secularism...

I would be a real proud Indian if we Indians stop back stabbing, stop lying for smallest things, our leaders stop lying, stop spitting on the ground, have some civic sense, stop killing DALITS, stop raping dalit women, stop riots, stop killing minorities, stop aborting female fetuses, stop bride burning for not enough dowry, if our leaders stop grabbing millions of rupees as comissions, if our elections are fair, if we learn the value of life......etc; That day will make everybody of us a proud Indian.

i appreciate your endless list saira, but the simple answer to all the above is money, women immolation-dowry, lies-money etc..etc....the simple remedy is when the girls start learning , show the interest in education, bend there backs and do some rela hard work to gain some real knowledge....unfortunately the woman in india, most of them are not competent enough, to take up science education etc ,....and most of them { even with lil education} only dream to get a good husband, never think as to what they can do for themselves.....who can stop a woman , if she revolts against marrying at young age....can\'t the Indian woman dont work and come outta there sick attitude India uvcourse will not change

hello, what makes you say that \'women in India are not competent enough to take up science\'. Before you make such sweeping statements, better think with an awake mind.
Problems are there in every country. These problems are of cultural, religious, social and ethical. If some of us doesn\'t like India because of these things, it\'s OK, still India moves ahead. Instead of crying and cribbing on politicians, illiteracy and other problems, why can\'t we go back and try fixing the problems? I am sure more or less none of us are ready. Since we are living in a real world be prepared to face them, solve them and fix them. Else, maybe, for some of us, it\'s time to take a flight to Utopia :)

Enrolements doesn\'t reflect that Indian women are not good for science at all. Are you providing them with enough scope and elbow room? Whenever a girl wants to go for higher education, either her father or brothers or some other man stops her from doing so, don\'t you know that? Do you know why girl child is looked down? You maybe an urbane and elite, but get to the brasstacks, go to the villages and see the situation. Talking about enrolements, go to the US universities, they are also facing the same problem. If you want go read Science, last october issue, all the statistics are there for you to see and understand. Even the US education policymakers are more worried about girls not taking up science. What do you know about statistics?
If you are in India, then go to IISc, Bangalore, there in Biology departments girls outnumber boys, what does that mean. Go to CCMB hyderabad and take a look.

abuses based on color, sex etc have been there since time immorial.....every where in the world....things are changing and i hope the same will continue...and one fine day we will be free of all this.....those who say that they are unhappy about being Indian...i call them escapists who wants to live in an ideal world.....which really doesnt exist....at any point..there\'s no reason to regret about these things..this is reality and we should face it rather than curse it.....wake up and think abt what you can do to the country and how u can help to make this world a better place to live in rather than pointing fingers.

The problem is, when others get bored they read a book, watch Tv or go on a drive and we Indians get married. Now, the real issue is not that, the issue is we multiply big time, faster than cockroaches infact. Thats actually a fact.I am also including the bulk of the population living in the rural areas, so you don\'t have to take personaly. Population has been the single factor that has dropped the developement rate by 4 times than that made by other countries with lesser population and same rate of industrial expansion.

These things are very much below the normal range, we are atleast are not as bad as russia with a divorce rate of 49%, which means one in every two couple breakup or more so, there are people who remarry more than 4 times in life atleast.Plus, germany, France, US, Uk all have the average age of a girl loosing her virginity as 16yrs.Now, if thats not a big deal, then lets all go ahead hunm around, but don\'t complain of \" Indians loosing the sense of culture, ethics and garbage like that. There are so many aspects India is great at, only difference is we let our personal life show in work and productivity, while the west does not. Plus as phlip cottler said \" India has too many holidays!\"

whoa ! again, anita ! Did u kno, that even a new born baby girl could have been raped in some so called advanced countries !? Its not aspecific to india, dear. Do not make that as a reason for u to hate ur motherland. Look out (compare, if u pl.) for the facts as to why u shud love ur motherland and look out for the reasons what u cud do to make a difference in making it better. Do not waste time on sulking, use it beneficially to tackle it and remove the prob.

There are boards posted everywhere in switzerland: \'Switzerland is the most beautiful country in the world, BUT only after your motherland!\'.. and then again I loovve one of those oldies where Mannadey expresses it so aptly: \'...eyy mere pyare watan, eyy merre bhichide chaman, tujhko dil khurbaan, tu hi meri aarzo, tu hi meri abhuru, tu hi meri jaan... choomulun uski zubaan jis pei aaya teraa naam..\'
India will be THE ONLY country, which will keep its arms open to us, dears.. lets treat it so, with the same amt. of love for it. A few politicians and a few more currupts do not make up INIDA, WE MAKE IT INTO OUR COUNTRY BY THE WAY WE FEEL AND LIVE BY IT.
