Medical Transcription has earned its fame in Hyderabad and all over India for sometime. But I doubt if it is doing the same even now. I have worked in the US in the Healthcare industry. The medical transcription industry in the US has reacted well to the overseas competition. They have drastically reduced their service charges.

Another setback for the Medical Transcription industry all over the world are the advances in the Voice Technology. Companies have come up with products (now used by most hospitals) to convert the spoken words of doctors into digital documents. I guess Medical Transcription industry as it is now is headed for absolute death.

If it was treated as a part of the BPO bandwagon, it would have been a part of the outsourcing deal today. But that was not the case. This profession came to limelight pre 9/11 and primarily pre BPO era. Thats what went wrong.

There are quite a few places which give training in medical transcription (MT). The famous ones are Karvy, Care technologies, FIGS, ELICO etc. A simple test is given, once u get thru it, the training is for 6 months. MT is on the rise in India. IT seems to have good future. So go for it. Once you are perfect in it you start home transcription and earn around 20,000/= per month sitting at home (but hafta be perfect in it !!!).

Over all it is not an easy job. All the best.
