I am no Urdu expert, but have the basics covered since being from Hyderabad means you hear a few words and phrases every so often. Since Mirza\'s birthday is coming up (scholars believe it is the 27th of December), I thought I will evoke the literary genius\' memory to those who swear by his intellect and his poverty-ridden yet romantically-charged life. I truly believe he wrote from the very bottom of his heart. Or else how can one explain the philosophical depths he touched? He was a maestro of incomparable (next only to Mir) talent, skill, and expression. Just to end this little note and respects to the greatness that was Mirza GHalib, here is an oft-repeated couplet of his:
Hazaron khwahishen aisi ki har khwahish pe dum nikle,
Bahot nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle.
--------------------------------------------Myriad and yet each solitary wish
One that I could die for
Unnumbered the desires I possessed
Innumerable those I yearn for.
