\"Clashes between Hindus and Muslims are frequent in India.\" This is what a new item in yahoo claims. I being an Indian today am ashamed at our Indian psyche. Some priest in US utters some nonsense for which he later apologize. And that causes Hindu-Muslim riots in India. Are we going to see riots in India for every \"blasphemy” that occurs anywhere in the world? I said this once in this site before and I would like to reiterate again, our country with all its problems is probably one of the greatest nations. I wonder how others countries would have coped with as diverse a culture/heritage/population/religious diversity as ours. And all this to enter the news as a troubled state and a “hatred torn” state is really disheartening. I think it’s the duty of every Indian individual to try to educate people about respecting others religions and their beliefs. Lets not pass on this hatred to our forthcoming generations. Lets make this country a place to be really proud of, a place where we can live without the fear of religious persecution. Mera Bharat Mahaan.

I agree with Srinu. Despite the rise of Hindu right wingers in recent years and the recent setback in Gujarat, India still is the best place to live in for both Muslims and Hindus. I hope it always stays this way.

Ya...! It seems especially so since our countrymen (I mean all...!) have been gifted with this special system called democracy to do anything freely... but unfortunately these foolish, so-called agitators don\'t know even the meaning of this...

India is the worst place for Muslims. TO THE POSTER ABOVE: what rights of Muslims are you talking about? Muslims are crushed in every sector, they are treated evilly... that\'s why the majority of Muslims of India who\'d afford fled India and migrated anywhere they could... There\'s no future for Muslims in India... India has no democracy and Muslims are the victims of discrimation everywhere. It\'s a shame really that after more than half a century of independence, there\'s no democracy in India.

You may not like it but shall I tell you something? Maybe the Muslims who went elsewhere were not capable enough or did not care to help their poorer brethren back home. With every capable Indian Muslim leaving the community, the community\'s situation worsens.

Upon retrospection, most persons(Hindu or Muslim) - I mean most, not all - who were involved in religious oppression know that what they have done is untoward and they do regret within themselves, having been involved in such act. But still, if such differences or blasphemy or oppression occur in future, these same people again participate actively and create chaos and disharmony in the society. The reason for contradiction was that these people will be easily provocated, influenced, forced or emotionally charged based upon ridiculous dogmas, speeches(not necessarily from politicians) etc etc... These evils related to religious oppression need to be obliterated and deracinated, but how? I do not know. I know that certain sections of muslims feel insecure in India, which is a shame to the country. But, these people should also remember that they are in an illusion, and should come out of it. They should remember people like Abdul Kalam, Azim Premji and Mohammad Kaif were highly appreciated and adored and given a high level of attention, and people from all religions idolised them as role models.

Dear Friends,

This is quite a sensitive topic and every effort little or big in bringing about harmony and peace would be great.

We all know that no human being would be interested in blood shed or would develop hatred for a fellow citizen, countrymen, neighbour etcc... we are too bussy with our daily chores!! In normal life , take any locality, the neighbours live a peaceful and harmonised life.

Historically, weak and cheap politicians use religion, region, language etc as tools to their advantage. Human by nature is very emotional and you will find throughout the historical events of riots - they were all actions temporary and reactionary to speeches and manufactured incidents.

There are numerous localities in Hyderabad where you will find hindu/muslims/sikhs/christians living together for ages without any kind of differences in their heart or mind. I myself live in a locality dominated by the people of other community.
Questions we may ask to ourselves are:

Why there are no riots in Hyderabad since TDP came into power - and why there use to be riots every now and then in the congress and other parties regime ? If there is a hatred among people where is it gone now ??
If religion is the basis then why there are regular (even daily) fights between groups of same religion (Tamils/Malyalis) in TamilNadu ?
Why Sunni/Shia riots in Pak ?
Why communal riots in Lebanon ?

All the above suggests that people need awareness and education about the political moves on continual basis so that they know the realities behind the masked incidents and keep their emotional level balanced and maintain harmony in peace.

Trust people with ideas that the situation cannot be changed will reconsider their decisions and extend their efforts towards fostering most needed social harmony.

la times seems to be thoroughly disilluioned, drifted & most importantly one of those many migrant muslims working abroad who need to introspect thoroughly before making a false & illogical statement which is far from reality. These are ppl who can\'t even pay attn to or help the situation of the muslims who want to live in co-existence with the majority.

la times, how can you say muslims are ill-treated and not given enough opportunities. i am sure there are some situations where justice is not done. but believe me its not (at least to my knowledge most of it isnt) directed at any particular community. no other country (not even countries like US... where you see minorities being harassed time and again) offers as much freedom as india does. i agree gujarat is a ugly scar. but we got to get over it and move on and avoid such incidents. passing on this absurd mistrust to our next generation is just not acceptable. as someone said its a very sensitive issue and i think the replies so far have been very mature. thanx to all.. its people like us who have to spread the message of peace and harmony... and thanx to the webmaster for (probably) censoring any offensive content.

La Times, it is very obvious your knowledge is very limited like that of the cauvery water issue,,, I work for a private sector owned by Hindus and my managing Directory for your kind Information is a Muslim. we look him as a Boss and his talents only and not his religion my dear friend, and dowm the lane many of my collegues are muslims, though it is a Brahmin owners.. so that answers your board

I really love to enter into such delicate topics! Anyway, I\'m not biased to any religion in particular. To tell you all, I\'m really enjoying my relations with both Hindus & Muslims... OOPS!! I forgot to mention Christians and Sikhs... I\'ve not even tasted the flavor of religious abhorance in any of my ways. Buddies!!! Those behind the screens in religious fights are the political leaders. One always tries to pull the leg of the others. Political fascists know where to pinch us to switch the music ON. And for that, they choose to excavate these religious issues. The general public, especially the YOUTH, has become the weapon in their hands... So, I would earnestly request you all to act smartly and meticulously...
