I think the biggest problem is mixing religion and emotions with politics and business. In a country with hardly 50% literarcy rate, and poverty this makes a deadly combination. My suggestion is to seperate religion and emotions from politics and business. The west had been engaged in crusades like this for hundreds of years and finally when they got sick and tired of this they come up with a political and financial system which is independent of religion and politics. The political system should be based on honesty, justice, equality which are universal principals supported by all religions or schools of thought. The Govt role should not be more than a law enforcer, giving people enough freedom but at the same time protecting the rights of all its citizens to live and prosper. This is the main difference between east and the west. Our religious and cultural believes do not let us over come our traditional way of thinking. I think just blaming the politicians is not enough there is some thing fundamentally wrong the way we think, what is wrong with our societies that we are producing politicians like this? I would also like to balme it on our education system, we are still following a model that British had set up long time ago, it provides degrees but doesn\'t change our thouht process at all. How can we expect us to do good in the fields of science and technology when we are plagued by religious madness like this.
