Arranged marriage - Is that a human rights violation?

Arranged marriage - although a long standing tradition in India - I think sometimes is a violation of human rights - if the marriage is arranged without the consent of the bride and the groom. Any takers?

Your argument infers that living together for the married life is an honest commitment from both wife and husband. But what does it have to do with how you get married?

Your statement \"Munda aur Kudi ko rahna hai saath mein pasand ho ya naa pasand ho\" precisely highlights the point that i am trying to make.
She is married against her will, has to stick to marriage against her will, cannot divorce, and is a social outcaste if divorced or widowed. Does a women have any rights in the Indian society?

Arranged marriages may happen with or without the consent of the bride and groom. If they are forced, inspite of open indication of dislike, then I think surely it a human right voilation. Parents must inform the bride and groom with whom they are planning to marry them. Obtain the free consent, without any force or coercion. If after explaining the facts, either bride or groom, disagree then marriages should not forced. It will hurt the entire family.

I personally feel semi-arranged marriage is the way to go...although it cannot be generalized. I think the couple should pick each other and get help from parents/relatives for arranging the marriage. This ofcourse SHOULD not mean that the couple dates or stays with each other before getting married.

Bottom line - MODERATION is the way to go. Too much conservatism or liberalism creats problems
