OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- An Oskaloosa teenager charged with molesting small children at a daycare run by his grandparents could avoid jail if he behaves. Sixteen-year-old Ross Baxter is charged with three felony counts of child abuse for allegedly abusing children between the ages of 4 and 12 at the daycare run by his grandparents. Baxter lived in the home.
Under terms of the plea deal, Baxter will be sentenced to one year probation next month after he pleads guilty to six aggravated misdemeanor charges. Prosecutors did not say why they offered Baxter the plea deal. His grandparents were charged with child endangerment and the day care was shut down.

Hyrum man charged with child sex abuse
A 31-year-old Hyrum man, currently in an Arizona jail, was charged Sunday with two felony counts of sexually abusing a child.
Troy Boren reportedly was incarcerated in a jail in Maricopa County when he was notified of the charge, police reports state. Boren is accused of inappropriately touching a young girl at least twice earlier this year in Logan.

Man jailed for keeping child sex slave
A South Australian District Court judge has jailed a man for 21 years for what he describes as the calculated and depraved sexual abuse of four young children.
Judge Peter Herriman said the man had used one of his four victims as a sexual slave for 10 years.
The 46-year-old man has pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including seven of unlawful sexual intercourse.
He used threats and bribes to intimidate the children, one was choked and head-butted.
Judge Herriman said he was sceptical of a letter of apology the man had written to his victims.
The man could be released on parole in 15 years.

A former council leader and police authority chairman performed sex acts on a 13-year-old boy when he was a social worker, a court has heard.
Colin Inglis, 49, who was leader of Hull City Council and chairman of the Humberside Police Authority, is charged with 14 counts of indecent assault.
Mr Inglis, of Wellington Street West, Hull, denies all the counts.
He met the boy when he worked at a council residential home in Hull, Leeds Crown Court heard on Tuesday.
Graham Hyland QC, prosecuting, told the court the boy woke regularly to find Mr Inglis standing in his room after performing a sex act on him.
'Favourite' boy
The prosecutor told the jury: "[The boy] was very much Mr Inglis's favourite at the time.
"Unfortunately on the part of Mr Inglis, that friendly relationship went beyond mere favouritism and that of a social worker to child in his care.
"For there came a time when Colin Inglis began subjecting him to acts of indecency.
"Thus it is that the defendant is now on trial for this offence all those years ago."
Mr Hyland said Mr Inglis would take boys from the Spring Cottage assessment centre for weekends away.
He said that on one occasion he took the "unusual if not unique" step of taking the youngster away by himself on a camping trip to North Wales.
Shower incident
The boy, who is now married with a daughter and working as a senior financial adviser, recalled that the trip was to Rhyll.
Mr Hyland said that on the trip Mr Inglis got into a shower with him, and described a similar incident at a Hull leisure centre where Mr Inglis had taken the boy to play squash.
The prosecutor told the jury that Mr Inglis's relationship with the boy had been examined in a previous police investigation into Spring Cottage in 1997.
Mr Inglis did not face any charges following that inquiry, but a new police investigation began in 2004.
The trial continues on Wednesday.

Durango - A San Juan Basin Health Department worker who teaches adults how to work with troubled teens is scheduled for arraignment Friday in La Plata County Court on a charge of sexual assault on a child.
Kenneth Charles Puhler, 50, of Durango, who has served as a foster parent to dozens of children in the past decade, was arrested June 27. The arrest affidavit was sealed. La Plata County sheriff's investigator Larry Foukas said Wednesday that he could not release further details.
Puhler served as Dolores County sheriff from 1986 to 1990. He has worked with the San Juan Basin Health Department since the early 1990s as a "prevention specialist" and guest
speaker for workshops in teen substance abuse, the dangerous "choking game," suicide prevention and teen sexuality.

MANILA (Reuters) - A Filipino woman who accuses four U.S. Marines of rape said she was too drunk to remember how she ended up in a van with one of the men on top of her, breaking down three times during her court testimony on Thursday.
The Marines, being detained by the U.S. embassy in Manila, deny the charges filed in December, saying only one of them had sex with the woman and that it was consensual. One of the sailors has said the woman was being manipulated to incriminate them.
"I felt someone grab me by the hand. I tried to resist but I can no longer remember what happened," the woman told a packed courtroom, taking the witness stand for the first time since the trial started last month.
The next thing she remembered was being in a van with a man on top of her, the woman said, identifying him as Lance Corporal Daniel Smith as she broke down for the third time.
The woman, a management accounting graduate, will continue her testimony on Friday after the judge stopped the hearing for the day.
"We closed our business for a while just to be with her," the woman's mother told reporters. "We know that today will be a difficult day for her."
The controversial case has generated intense local media attention and put the spotlight on Manila's close relationship with Washington, with critics arguing that a Visiting Forces Agreement gives U.S. soldiers too much protection.
But it has prompted only small protests and is not expected to hurt ties between the Philippines and its former colonial ruler.
Gabriela, a women's group that has provided moral support to the woman throughout the trial, staged a small rally outside the court, carrying placards demanding justice for her.
Smith, fellow Lance Corporals Dominic Duplantis and Keith Silkwood, and Staff Sergeant Chad Carpentier -- part of a Marine unit based in Japan that had been on two weeks of exercises with Philippine troops -- sat silently through the hearing.
Prosecution witnesses have told the court they saw a woman drinking with the Marines at a bar on the night of the attack and her being carried outside into a van by one of the sailors.
Other witnesses said they saw a woman being carried from the van and left on the pavement with her pants around her knees.
A doctor told the court the woman had bruises on her arms, legs and genital area that were consistent with sexual assault.
The woman's step-sister claimed her family was offered money to drop the case.
The Marines disputed the charges. The case is expected to finish by August with hearings four times a week

I wonder because afghanistan has been a battlefield for the past 30 years atleast. it is safe to assume that there was very little TV to watch and certainly much less porn and I am not even goin to talk about alcohol. yet the taliban had plenty of reason to kill, main and torture people...one has has to wonder where you are going with this.

DQ, I love and have immense pride in India. I also am a Hyderabadi and our huge family has scores of muslim families also as our family friends since several generations. We have been brought up to recognize the best and the worst in an issue and embrace the best while discarding the worst.. including in our own religion. BTW, I volunteered for several years at many places while I was in India so I do have first hand knowledge about varied issues that happen in our country. I volunteer in similar places here in California too. Given some of these facts about me..
Lots of worse stuff happens in our own country. Lets just take pedophilia, as you did. Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, next door neighbours, passers-by, guys standing next to you in a bus ! make passes at even little girls at the best and sexually molest regularly at the worst..

KARACHI - Police in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province have rescued a nine-year-old girl who was married off by her father to clear a debt for 400 kg (880 lb) of rice.
Both the father, Jan Mohammad, and her husband of four days, Abdul Sattar, a man of around 60, have been arrested and will appear in court on Saturday, a senior officer said.
“The marriage has taken place but the girl is underage,” police officer Masroor Ahmed Jatoi in Jacobabad district, 480 Km (300 miles) north of Karachi, told Reuters on Friday.
“She was given as compensation by her father, so we are treating it as a criminal case,” said Jatoi.
The girl, Wahida, has been sent for medical examination, and would be transferred to a care centre until a court decides where she will be best looked after.
Her father had stood as guarantor for a friend who bought the rice on credit, but when the debt put at 50,000 rupees ($833) was not paid, the trader demanded that Mohammad give his daughter in marriage to his elder brother as compensation, Jatoi said.
Human rights activist and lawyer Rashid Rehman said the law bars marriages of girls under 14 and boys under 16.
“The law has defined the ages clearly. There is also a law that prevents children and women from being given in any form of compensation to settle a dispute or blood feud,” Rehman said, adding that the court could declare the marriage void.
The government says it promotes the rights of women, but it is still common in rural areas, where feudal and tribal ways hold sway, for girls to be given as compensation to settle disputes.
Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Supreme Court stopped five minor girls from being handed over as compensation in a double murder case and ordered the police to conduct an inquiry.

Shawn Michael Shelton, 39, remained Tuesday at the Clark County jail pending a Sept. 13 preliminary hearing on charges of kidnapping, sexual assault of a minor, coercion and intentional transmission of human immunodeficiency virus.
In a criminal complaint filed July 10 in Las Vegas Justice Court, prosecutors say that Shelton previously tested positive for HIV.
He is accused of displaying a police badge and ordering the 14-year-old into his vehicle at a Las Vegas bus stop May 21. Authorities said he forced the boy to perform oral sex. They would not say whether the boy has tested positive for HIV.

(CBS) MISSION VIEJO Sheriff's officials announced Monday the arrest of a Mission Viejo Christian School gym teacher on suspicion of molesting a girl, 14.
Armando Lucero, 26, of Lake Forest was arrested last Wednesday, according to Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
"Investigators fear there may be other victims," he said.
Lucero, who was released after posting $50,000 bail, is due in court next month, Amormino said.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call investigators at (714) 647-7419.
