I was driving back a day ago and I stopped at a signal. The vehicle in front of me was a ' Govt vehicle' (white ambassador). Just in front of it was a motorcyclist. There were arguments between both the rider and the driver. The car driver wanted the motorcyclist to move, even though the signal was still red.



The driver didn't represent the Govt. but if a govt vehicle wanted to jump a signal, need we say more? Yeah maybe not all 'govt vehicle drivers' think like him but doesn't it say something about his attitude?



Why don't we all just be socially a bit more responsible? And I'm not talking about moving mountains here.



The next time you are out, please don't:

1) Spit on the roads

2) Throws bits of paper/trash on the road while riding/driving

3) Jump signals

4) Let the ringtone of your mobile be loud enough to disturb the others in a theatre.

5) Please add to the list if there's something that comes to your mind.



Wish there was a forum/organisation of like-minded Hyderabadis in the city where we could all come together (once in a week or two maybe) and do something to better living conditions in the city / or just bring to the notice of the relevant authorities something that is making public life miserable.



We've spoken about it in our drawing-rooms countless times (how bad/corrupt/lousy the system is blah, blah, blah). How many of us can actually get things moving?

Yes, the best thing to do is not to break rules.



As long as people eat pan, it is inevitable for the to spit.



Govt. vehicles driven by their drivers with maybe govt. officials or their children or relatives -- it is a shame. But in India the govt. officials do take undue advantage of the vehicles.



It is possible to maintain a good environment if people are ready to loose a couple of minutes while driving. We see that many a vehicle zig-zags its way towards the traffic signals to be the first to shoot out of the traffic when there is a red light. With the amount of inconvenience caused to others one just escapes just to save a few seconds.



You are right. Everyone has to assume his own responsibility of maintaining law and order.

Whenever there is an accident or even a small incident, the ppl involved start a fight there itself instead of moving to the side of the road.

Everyday when I travel to work on the Telugu talli flyover, I feel like running over all the people who chose to climb the flyover and take the U turn after the divider. Infact, earlier today I almost did that. SOB was lucky that I was in a pleasant mood.

very good topic. i think the problem would subside when one starts adding the word "my". its "my house", my"street", "my city" i think it adds responsibilty. i have seen people throwing garbage on the road while the dustbin is just a few steps away. the responsibilty needs to be cultivated in each person.

Was discussing this thing with dad, after a cycle-waala on the Highway opted to let our car to pass and then cross the road. We both agreed that Hydie drivers and pedestrians assume that if there is even a small space, they are entitled to it, and make a dive for it.

The public themselves need to think in a sane manner and decide whatz good and whatz not. If every citizen would just think, "Would I tolerate this kinda behaviour if someone else does it?" before doing something wrong and also stop being in the mentality that "Everyone else is doing it, why shouldn't i??"



Apart from the general public, in most cases of traffic snarls, the culprits are the Bus Drivers & Autowallahs. They should be counselled on traffic safety & road-safety and not let them think that the road is their Baap-ki-jagir



A few pints i'd like to add to the list:

People Should NOT:

1. Cross the road whenever & wherever they like. People should assemble at a common point and then cross in groups rather than standing paralelly to the road and crossing indiscriminately!!! Its a common sight to se road-crossers after every few metres on busy throughfares.

2. Drive their vehicle, as close to the fotpath as possible, on the wrong side of the road just because you can save time n distance!

3. Start moving towards the middle of the signal whenever the clock counts down from 6-5-4 etc

4. Park their vehicles wherever they please!

5. Liter/throw garbage/urinate in places where people are bound to walk-by (or even drive-by!)

I think the number one civic sense that we motorists should first inculcate is respect for pedestrians. It does not matter where they are crossing the road from. We should all make a conscious effort to stop for a pedestrian.



Other than that, we should all know what lane discipline means. Hyderabad is one of the very few cities that has clear lanes demarcated on the roads. It does not take rocket science to drive in the designated lanes.



I can actually think of a nice way to penalise people who criss-cross lanes. The cops should not fine them or anything. Just direct them in the direction that the lane they are in is meant for. Considering U-turns in Hyderabad are often not possible for a few kilometres, this should serve as a good deterrent.
