Where will an American go to get decent proces in Hyderabad?

by Sony » Sun May 07, 2006 2:21 am

This is my second trip to Hyderabad and both time locals have told me Pearls are cheap and a 4x6 rug should be less the 4000 rps. Every place I walk into things are more expensive then in the states. Pearl necklace at least 12,000 rps, rugs over 1,000 US dollars.

So my question is quite simple: Is there anywhere in this city that an American can go and get good prices?

Sorry about the attitude

Hello Sony,

I am extremly sorry for the arrogance you've experienced through the earlier posts. Please do not make any generalizations and assume that all Hyderabadis are like this. We take pride in being the most hospitable guys you will find in India.

I wish I could help you in this context but since I am not much into Pearls/Rugs, cant do much. I guess the vendors have quoted you an American price (thanks to globalization, even the street hawkers know the daily conversion rates for almost all the foreign currencies). Try taking a knowledgeable guy (pref. from Old City) along with you.

Good Luck.

If you are white and want to get real prices, take a local along with you when you shop. Its better if the local is a female as only females know how to bargain. But I guess you already know that.

Btw, Hyderabad is known for good quality pearls and they aren't really cheap.

Good luck.
May the Fries be with you!

Thank you very much Mayavi. I took your advice and had two young ladies escort me today. I got some great deals and had a wonderful time meeting very nice people all around the city. I am glad Shut up!!!'s evil was not able to spoil my stay.

I do not know what the MODS do when we have people like "shut up" post such irrelavent replies to modest queries by people.

I dont want to comment on his/her character because I guess he has given enough evidence by himself for anyone to form an opinion. My request is to the mods to ban anyone with such a disposition.

I am all for free speech, but everything has its limits. Just because I have a doorstep does not mean anyone can shit on it, coz if I see anyone doing that I sure will kick his butt till he can never shit again.

Like I heard recently in a movie, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke.

I hope we dont let that happen like we usually do.

I agree with you that therez some nuisance that went in this thread, but I dont support the idea of censorship. Whats the point with censorship anyway? - after all we are not kids. I'm already upset that there is good amount of censorship going here at FH.

The point of censorship is to make a better community to live in. Let me give you an example, you dont let anyone walk into your house right. I would want them to have clean footwear or for that matter remove their shoes before they enter. similarly when someone is shouting obscenities in your street, in front of your house,, do you say , well its his freedom of speech and let him continue? no you dont. coz he has no reason to violate your freedom to live in a decent calm surroundings. The reason we have to kick some people out here is exactly for the same reasons. I hope you understand what i am talking about.

I am not saying that the controversial opinions must be left untouched. However, a mere censorship does not make the group reflect what it actually is. Nor can make one believe that he/she is living in a better community just because the nuissance is curbbed by power momentarily. Debates are common in discussions and points of opinion between two persons vary, however the end result proves the entire group's outlook. Apparently, this very thread proved it once.

This arguements applies to people who have the mental capacity to debate and respect other opinions. you cant put forward that to support uncultured and vile remarks made by someone without any provokation whatsoever. That is taking the idea of freedoms too far coz we should remember that your freedoms end where others freedoms begin.

Its disgusting to read some weirdo's warped comments to an innocuous query.

If you can't be of help, don't say anything at all.

I knew some information about 'pearls/rugs' which I passed on.

These boards are frequented by 100s of people and there's no point in posting nonsense that is completely tangential to the topic.

We missed this thread, Reality - apologies to everyone about that. We just cleaned up several posts. Apologies to Sony. The person who attacked him has a history of making attacks on others. We'll ban him the next time this happens.

We feel we are still not censoring enough, KK. We are a few steps away from the ultimate censorship - shutting down these forums completely :D. Thanks anyway for posting here.

Whoa, just kidding, Gyanster :D! fullhyd.com is, on the contrary, coming out with a new version in a month which took 3 years and about 400 people to create. We hope you like it. And, of course, while the forums will be upgraded, all the posts will be intact. Cheers!

Hi Mod,

Sorry, missed saying this...thank you for the compliment.

I must say that personally, I've been enriched by reading diverse opinions by your very large member base.

Some of the new members/veterans who post /have posted are genuinely well-read. It's a pleasure to read well-articulated thoughts.

As a well-wisher, I can only hope, fullhyd goes from peak to peak. More power to you! :)
