Narmada Dam Issue

by labelle » Tue Apr 18, 2006 6:17 pm

just saw the feature on the narmada dam issue. the feature was about the rehablitation of the people affected by the raising of the height of the dam in madhya pradesh. on one end the rasing of the height of the dam will solve the problems of thousands of people in the perinneally drought affected regions of gujrat and on the other end is the rehabilitation of the people affected. the supreme court issued a notification to submit the masterplan for rehabilitation within 3 months last year. its one year and the master plan is yet to be there and the plight of the people is unnoticed. the lands that they owned are the only source of income and the land which the government is providing is far from being a source of income. the government machinery is turning a blind eye to teh issues at hand. the question is where are the funds evaporarating. everthing on the ground zero is at the snails pace while the political temprature because of the issue has been constantly rising.the devlopement of the country is very important and providing the basic necessities is the work of the government but the basic isues at hand needs to be taken care of. maybe connecting all the rivers would be the ideal solution for the country like ours.
how happy is he born and free,
who serveth not anothers will,
whose armour is his honest thought and,
simple truth his utmost skill..........

Well the whole NARMADA BACHAO ANDOLAN..NBA as it is called is fighting for a cause...

fighting the apathy of the governments over the years to the poeples woes

the story is the same all around us..to name a few..that are very near by to us hyderabadis

1. the gangavaram port rehabilitaion

2. the polavaram project

3. the babli project

and all the major projects face the same problem

first of all the government lacks foresight while they conceive these ideas..

and most of them are purely for their own political gain

the idea of linking all the Indain rivers is a double edged sword ..can turn futile if executed improperly,..and may damage the entire subcontinent ecosystem

what we need is WATER EFFICIENT FARMING and EFFICENT RAIN WATER HARVESTING

not dams ...for gods sake no more of them ...that too in earthquake prone areas..they will only end up as sitting timebombs waiting to explode

anyways ...good that people here are talking about it

bye
