We were having a discussion over lunch on “It is also believed that on this day, King Vali was killed by Rama and Shri Rama returned to Ayodhya victorious.” part.
Now, it is also widely believed that Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya on DIWALI day.
Can anyone explain why/how two contradicting views exist in mythology for same event?
For me..Journey of life is important than just destinations

Which other day are you talking about?
Diwali is celebrated because Rama has returned to Ayodhya - In Dwaparayuga.
It is also celebrated because Narakasura is killed on the same day - In Tretayuga.

North Indians celebrate return of Ram to Ayodhya on Diwali and most southies celebrate Diwali to commemorate killing of Narakasura in a battle
