Sangeet Theater is Sad - saw rang de basanti there

by Angle » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:49 pm

saw rang de basanti there recently.

and i regret it.

the movie experience could have been far better if i saw it in a better theater.

The worst thing was the picture quality. the screen was dull! the colors were dull. the black and white scenes in the movie were such a strain to the eyes, they were supposed to be more bright than what sangeet shows.

i live in kukatpally. and all the 5 theaters in my area are better than sangeet - no doubt about that.

the sad thing is that i had no option. rang de was in 4 theatres. sangeet, ramakrishna35mm, prasads and pvr.

i couldnt afford 100bucks for the ticket so i had only two options and i thought sangeet was better. ive been to this theater loooong time back when it was supposed to be the best in hyd.

whoever wants to watch RDB, please dont do it in sangeet. if u cant afford an insane 100bucks, wait for a week and the price at prasads will reduce to 60rupees.

im gonna watch the movie again at prasads

well, having never visited it, I don't know how sangeet was and what sorta nostalgia it holds for a Hyderabadi. But from one or two blog posts & my colleagues' comments...it seems that it was well-off previously and has fallen upon bad times now!

But what I notice is the steep increase of commercialization of the Cinema.....I think it is much less rampant in Hyderabad than in say Bangalore or Mumbai. A common man can still watch a movie in a decent theatre in hyderabad for 35-50 Bucks but thatz outta the question in Bang, i suppose.

earlier Prasadz & now PVR have steeply icreased the ticket prices.Tho I feel that most people who go to see movies in prasadz do so just as a ..what can you call it?.....show-off so as to say! more of a status symbol than for the cinematic experience.

Agreed that IMAX is an awesome experience but once is enuff for most ppl!

yes...my fave theater is slowly slipping into bad days :(

this started ever since they shifted to screening hindi/telugu films. but the things that havent changed in sangeet are the gr8 parking lot and the polite and helpful staff. dunno what hapnd to that multiplex project they announced with fanfare more than a year ago...
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

The name of Sangeeth theatre brings so many fond memories.

It was like this in 80s, not so pleasant, but went for a slick appeal late 80s and was numero uno for better part of the last decade. Too bad, they are lagging behind now. But those guys if they are still around, know their business and I am pretty sure they will be on top again...

There was a time when Sangeet was THE theatre. For the quality of audio and visuals as well apart from the quality of movies.

Another theatre that makes Hyderabadis sad is Maheswari / Parameshwari. In early 80s it used to be a must on every tourist's list but now it is in such a pathetic condition...........

yup...they are ill maintained now...and these days u hardly see those neon "houseful" signs glow in that building....

but looking at the size of that complex, i think they can easily build a 10 screen multiplex there n shine again...

yeah CAD

Since TSR leased it out, it has been going down hill. And traffic adds to the woes. Been a while since I visited that place. Most of the old theatres have refurbished but some how these guys are not even thinking of it.

Pataa nahi kaun chala rahaa hai aaj kal and once GVK One and other multiplexes open up, I guess it will get even worse.
