The New Flyover - What do you think??

by smack » Mon Jan 30, 2006 7:16 pm

Guys,

The new flyover coming up from Green Lands to Somajiguda to Punjagutta to Nagarjuna Hills is going to create chaos for next 1-2 years. Cops have already announced diversions in several places.

While this is going to smoothen traffic problems in future, till such time it is going to be utter chaos.

Do u guys think the HUDA/MCH will keep thier word and finish within 18 months as committed??

yes, there wud be problems n chaos for the nxt 18 months atleast but it is ok since aftre completion, the flyover wud make the flow of traffic smooth. lets take it like a bitter pill to cure an illness.

actually there contractors who are constructing the flyover have a signed a clause that states that a monthly penalty wud be imposed for any delay beyond 18 months. lets hope for the best.

Yeh HH, Agree with you abt OU flyover but I guess neither the contractor nor MCH can afford such delay here and for the obvious reasons.

Sadly, no BIGWIG lives in the Jamai Osmania area who could have pushed the flyover project.

Koi nahi, lets hope for the best.

the previous flyovers were constructed without that penalty clause. that is why the new flyovers have it.

we know that the flyover u mentioned is still unfinished, but we shud not forget that flyovers at Airport, Paradise, YMCA, Tarnaka, Narayanguda, Masab Tank, Dabirpura etc were completed without too much delay. the Secretariat flyover got delayed due to political and administrative reasons and was not due to the contractor's fault.

I hope they finish it ahead of schedule (i know, im expecting too much) coz the confusion thats gonna create will b crazy. Anyway, I guess its good for hyd neway.

Some more Hyd modernization news : J.W. Marriot has taken over Viceroy and will open shop in another two months, plus Hilton (the hotel chain ) has bought land in Madhapur and are gonna start construction very soon ;)

Radisson is buying/has bought Hotel (Tulip) Manohar.

Hyderabad is woefully short of star hotels/rooms though. When the Congress plenary session was going on, bookings of foreign clients (in all leading hotels) was cancelled to accommodate the hazar Congress partymen. It was such a shame. As hosts to some foreign clients, we were left with egg on our face.

Bimbette, no offence, but I am glad it got cancelled. We Indians tend to give the firangs too much importance anyway. I can see you looking at me from a distance, fuming with smoke coming out of your ears but we seem to have taken 'Athiti Devo Bhava' too far. May be they are investing money. But if they are investing a million, they are taking away ten. They come here to invest because it makes business sense, not because we are a hospitable people.

Companies operate in contries like Nigeria too solely for the oil that they have. Hospitality is too far out there. They have a military government that goes about killing anyone whenever it so desires.

The point I am trying to make is this. Let us make them feel at home. I am not disputing that. But let us not go out of our way to do that.

Lucifer, the point wasn't that at all. The point was that Hyderabad doesn't have enough rooms to accomodate people when a world-class or in this case, a country-specific convention is happening. It was just a case in point, you are digressing from the point. After all, as you said investments are good and they will invest only when the come here and if the hotels cancel their reservation, well, they won't have a very good image of Hyd, now, will they?

wtf are u talking man? in bimbette's case, how wud the 'hospitality' be shown to those foreign guests? by putting them up at her home or in tents by the roadside? the foreign investors are more important that some parasitic politicians who like to kiss italian a$$...

Agree with bimbette. Hyderabad, if it keeps hosting such huge conventions, needs several good quality hotels to accommodate all those delegates.

ANd good news is that several new properties are coming up. In next 2-3 years we should be having atleast 5-6 star hotels.

in that case the contractor has to pay a monthly penalty. that clause has been included. unless they amend the contract to remove that clause, the contractor cannot afford to delay.
haha wrote:As for bangalore....yea... i went on that flyover.....but u gotta see the size man.....its like a hundred lanes.....and they have exits and stuff on da flyover...wickedd ass stuff...
what size, what lanes, what exits? :? its a 'Y' shaped flyover, with a traffic light at the junction of the 2 "arms" and the 'tail'. the light is coz the traffic on the left side of the "tail" proceeds to the right "arm" at the junction and the traffic coming from the left "arm", crosses the junction to proceed on the right side of the "tail". like i said, CRAZY! are u sure u are talking of the right flyover? i think this is somewhere near Koramangala.

it even featured in an NDTV chat show where the participants were debating the crumbling infrastructure of bangalore.

Well, this one flyover will be done on time. Not because the officials and contractors have become good. The only reason is the VIP traffic that flows through the Punjagutta junction.

And regarding B'lore flyover, hundred lanes??? I guess there is no fly over with more than 12 lanes anywhwere in the world, forget 100s of lanes.

I guess u were kidding
