Cricket - BCCI and ICC

by Whiz » Sun Jan 22, 2006 11:09 pm

What do you think about the BCCI's new stand (or standoff) about the Champions trophy and FTP.

BCCI's position is that the Champions trophy is taking away resources and revenue from the board, while ICC says that this trophy is needed for the development of cricket throughout the world.

Mike Atherton's quote - India's behaviour toward the ICC conveyed an image of a country 'acting as superpowers tend to act: self-interest first and last and bugger the rest. Last week, Malcolm Speed, the chief-executive of the ICC, found himself in a position much occupied by Kofi Annan and the United Nations in recent years: being bullied by a superpower for whom the notions of international law and collective responsibility have long ceased to have any meaning.

And I completely agree with him, why have we become so arrogant when it comes to our interests and yet, at the same time, crib when others tend to ignore our interests. Double standards.

There are no double standards here my friend!!!!

The ICC should be taught a lesson and now is the best time. The ICC in the past was always biased to the White Cricketing nation (Aus,RSA,Eng....) and we the asians always used get a raw deal, werent those double standards?

1. Why was michael slater not reprimanded when he got into a tussle with rahul dravid in the mumbai test in 99/00 season.

2.Why was hansie cronje not reprimanded when he bashed the third umpire's room with a stump in the melboune test when mark waugh was given not out and the test ended in a draw?

These are just one off incidents and I can go on updating this list but for....

Hope you got my point why I am supporting BCCI

I completely agree that there were, are and will be issues within the ICC. Be it because of the race, or the arrogance of the developed countries or anything related to that.

If BCCI is really addressing those concerns, then it will not pull out of Champions trophy as this trophy was created to provide money for (non-while) Bangladesh, West Indies, etc primarily. Sure Holland and others are predominantly white countries. Also for incidents like Sachin's lbw when the ball hit the helmet, Australian sledging, etc there are 'official' ways to address those. And that rests with the ICC, not BCCI. Moreover, the BCCI can at least threaten to walk out (before actually doing so) if these issues are not addressed.

The only reason why the board is doing that is money. And of course the money will go into the Pawars and others of the board. The BCCI is already an extremely rich board, even before the multi million dollar Nike sportsgear deal. How much more of the pie do we want. Where is the humility that we need to have for others. Especially at these times.

i support the ICC on this issue. its not a debate on race or anything, so lets not go there.

right now BCCI is threatening to behave in the cricketing world like how US is behaving with nations that dont agree with it.

right now BCCI is the richest n powerful cricketing body and it is abusing its financial clout for selfish interests. the champions trophy and the schedule with weaker cricket playing countries is an idea developed by Jaggu Dalmiya when he was the Boss of the CCI. this plan worked on popularizing cricket in newer countries and spreading the game. of course, playing minnows is not financially as profitable to BCCI as playing the biggies is, but financial gain shud not be the overriding consideration everytime.

one good thing is that till now other major cricketing nations like australia pakistan, england, SA, Windies etc have not openly agreed or supported BCCI's stance.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

Now this from the BCCI.

http://thatscricket.oneindia.com/news/2 ... i-icc.html

What it says, as usual, that the board has never decided to withdraw from the Campions trophy. These board members, don't they have a sense of shame, aren't they embarassed enough after the whole Ganguly affair that hey have to do it all over again. Statements and denials, actions and retractions. And now the same story all over again, but now with a different scapegoat.

Shame shame BCCI.
