Well, most people, when they use the term 21st century intend to mean the forward movement that the world is making, both in terms of science/technology as well as in terms of the changes in peoples mindsets.

But it does'nt imply the changing of the values & customs that one has imbibed and has inherited from parents/elders/contemporaries.

Yes, there has to be a broadening of one's horizons and adapting to the changes that the world is seeing but that should not come at a cost of forgetting one's morality.

Most often than not, it is the Youth who are the ones that talk about 21st century and its implications, but lets not forget that the phase is soon over and as they get older & matured, they realise that they have to shoulder much responsibilites and hence change accordingly. As for the ones who don't,well, they gotta do so sooner or later, else they'll be the ones to suffer.

And for people from an earlier generation, the image that they form about the 21st century is from what they see the present generation emulate. So if some elders see a guy & gal prancing about n jeans & low-cuts,they'll blame the changing times for it.And thatz part of the change that comes naturally with time. Weren't there Bell Bottoms & tight shirts in the 70's & 80's? I've just taken a fleeting example in the clothings but really it applies to lot many things.

Whatever we see around us is change.....be it materialistic or at an abstract level, and there are various interpretations for it. Blaming it all on the 21st Century is just a way of escapism.

21st Century - Is a metaphor that theory of evolution is not just a theory. It tells you that you have come a long way and are evolving every single day. And it is only natural that you know more and so make informed decisions with the changed times and live in present and not in ancient times where they hanged you if said something like 'Earth is round' or 'Earth revolves around sun', where a king can have hundred concubines (and not all willing I suppose) and religious crusades was a nations favorite past time. And when Genghis Khan stopped spreading his seed

Morality is subjective - and like many other things is time specific. Religion written in ancient texts re-inforces it.

21st Century? apart from being a number on the calendar, it denotes a state of mind. specifically going towards what you are implying, it is a state where a mind is free to assess and analyse outdated/ancient rules and adapt them to changed circumstances. a state of mind where one is free to speak one's mind without fear of retribution.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

21st century is a phrase popularized primarily by press - for me it is the same as the ageless "aaj-kal" (these days..) - One can be in the nth century and still say aaj-kal and still refer to the contemporary times...

aaj-kal 21st century ke naam pe sab chalale sakte logaan..
    Dil pe mat le yaar....
