Yeah, what were Sania's comments ?

Khushboo's comment was 'Men should not expect their wives to be virgins'.

The way some lunatics in TN have reacted to that statement makes me wonder whether we are living in the 21st century.

Just an afterthought, the same people built a temple for her and now this!

PS Poor Suhasini, she must be rueing the day she came to her actress friend's defense.

I dunno wht Sania said but she and Khushboo only expressed their opinions, which they are entitled to. Such news items make headlines in papers such as ToI and DC and news channels like Star News. They survive solely on these events and cant help blowing them out of proportion.

Without any allusions to the pre-marital sex issue, this is how I feel about the whole incident.

Sania has that uncanny knack of putting her foot in her mouth. Infact, I guess she loves doing it. Remember her comments in ToI when she was the "Guest Editor"? She said she's the one who showed the people at Wimbledon what the Indian flag looks like. Utter disrespect to greats all the way from the Krishnan and Amritraj families to Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathy. Or her comments on her match against Sharapova at the US Open. Anyone who saw the match will remember that Sharapova was below average that day. And the match was full of unforced errors from both players. Sharapova won because she had the lesser of them. Still, our girl comes up saying that she gave Sharapova a tough fight. Examples of her foot in the mouth syndrome are aplenty.

True, this is a democracy. But then, democracy doesn't mean that you keep changing your stand every now and then. See how fast she retracted from her statement in the face of the public outcry. Started talking about being a pious muslim and all.

HP,

I didn't read that bit on the 'flag' and neither did I watch her match against Sharapova but I think we should remember that Sania is all of 19. The older generations in politics, sports, films do a U-turn on their statements countless times.

This is not to say that I'm giving a clean chit to Sania, but she wouldn't have realised the gravity of her statements, when she made them. How many 19 year olds do?

on 17, nov, Newindpress.com wrote:Sania preaches play it safe, says can't stop pre-marital sex
Thursday November 17 2005 00:00 IST
UNI

NEW DELHI: It's not possible to put a curb on pre-marital sex and the best way to curb aids is to play it safe, preached tennis sensation Sania Mirza.

In the city to take part in the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Sania skirted questions which had anything to do with tennis but waxed eloquent when it came to advocating other issue.

''Look, whether it's before or after marriage, people should have safe sex. And about pre-marriage sex, you can't stop people and hence the best way is to play it safe,'' said the teenager, who shared the dais with miss universe Natalie Glebova and Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan.

Karthikeyan, meanwhile, threw his weight behind South Indian actress Khushboo, whose remarks on pre-marital sex has snowballed into a major controversy.

''I think Khushboo stressed on safe sex even it is pre-marital and it spiralled into a controversy partly because of the media,'' Karthikeyan observed.

Glebova, the Russia-born, Toronto-based Miss Universe also asked people to have precaution and safe sex.

18 nov, Deccan Herald wrote:I was misquoted. I am deeply pained at the maligning of my image and making a non-issue into a serious controversy.

I would like to clearly say on record that I could not possibly justify pre-marital sex as it is a very big sin in Islam and one which I believe will not be forgiven by Allah.

It agonises me that the journalists concerned did not consider it necessary to confirm what they thought I meant before making up a sensational story, attributing a viewpoint to me that is totally contrary to what I believe in and what I stand for as a Muslim and as an Indian girl.

I do not even know whether it was a poor choice of words used by me that caused a couple of learned journalists to attribute these totally false connotations about my justifying pre-marital sex.”

(Her statement on Friday in Hyderabad)

Has she back tracked from her statement at all? I feel its the media that has blown the issue out of proportion.

all khushboo said was abt the use of proper protection if a couple were having premarital sex. what was wrong in it? it is a sensible advice u wud find in any book on the subject. sania and otehrs did the right thing by defending her right to express her opinion and validating the correctness of the statement.

abt the back tracking that followed, why blame sania for it? what wud one expect of a young girl who spoke her mind and found her posters being burnt in the streets? why only her? even Suhasini retracted her statement in support of khushboo.

its really a sign of danger if people speaking their mind abt serious issues are sought to be silenced like this...$crew the effing moral brigade...:x

hello

by B4s » Sun Nov 20, 2005 11:18 am

Hello! every one....

sania said,"It's not possible to put a curb on pre-marital sex and the best way to curb aids is to play it safe"...............

sania also said,"Look, whether it's before or after marriage, people should have safe sex. And about pre-marriage sex, you can't stop people and hence the best way is to play it safe"

my opinion:...

i think, u all agree that now sania a role model to many young girls n (for boys too) in india.

most of the girls and their parenst are blindly following her.....most of the girls and their parents are blindly dreaming that one day they also become a great tennis player like sania etc....they are not bothered about they financial position or fitness or physic.....

so..here i would like to say that...sania's comments will have a great impct on young girls and boys.....they just start thinking that there's nothing wrong if u have pre-martial sex..one can enjoy sex at any age but...one should play it safe by using condomes etc..

is this what we teach to our children????? is that wat we learn from 21 st centuary?? after all we are indians ...we have certain customs...we should protect our culture.......

every one has the right to freedom of speach..but it doesnt mean that u mis-use ur right by misleading youth.....

we stop people from making any comments that leads to communal rigts or speaches which encourage youth towards terrorism...

so i personally feel that sania was wrong in making such commenst.....

if u hink, she is just 19 and one should not take her comments seriously....then i would like to say that when she is jus 19 then she shouldn't make such comments which mi lead the youth of india...

i personally feel that kushboo was also wrong in making such commenst...

she said, there's nothing wrong in having sex before marriage...if both a guy and girl love each other ..and if they want to have sex..then they can enjoy sex....she also said, one can't expect her wife to be a virgin....

i guess that you all know, she has a temple in tamil nadu.....that means people treat her like goddess....u can think, how much she influenced the ppl...........

a person like that should not make such comments which are a great threat to indian culture.....

every one like to see is girl friends in sexy modern dress but i think, one never want her wife to wear sexy dress and move in ppl....

one would never like to marry a girl who has/had sex before their marriage....one would always love to marry a virgin..

all these are my personal opinions ......

am sorry if my comment hurt any one of you.....

I do not know what Sania said because, frankly, I don't really care about what she says anyway. But that is just the Sania-hater in me.

What I am duly concerned about is the state of our number one Fundamental Right - Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression. This one I do care about. Why is it that when someone says something that the so-called moral police does not like then they are forced to have their mouths filled with soot? Why, as a citizen of a free country, am I not allowed to say what I want to? Just because what I say does not agree with you it does not mean you have any right to impinge upon my freedom.

And look where the whole issue has been blown out of proportion - Chennai! Statistically, and a quick google search will reveal this, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the North Eastern states have among the highest incidents of promiscuity in this country. Shouldn't these guys be putting their house in order first?

What is wrong with pre-marital sex anyway? I mean if all that stands between legitimising sex is a sindoor then what stops me from applying that to every woman I choose to sleep with? It is not like pre-marital sex has not existed - Karna and Ved Vyasa were progenies of pre-marital sex. It is only with the Victorial prudery that came in with the British rule that we lost our identity.

To sum up, people should be allowed to say what they want to. Those who burn effigies of people who are outspoken should be put behind bars for impinging on the basic fundamental right.

balls. we are following 17th century british culture when we protest against sania's comments :x if u dont teach yr kids the facts of life and educate them abt safe sex, so u think they wont get to know it or even do it....? the days have changed my dear chap, wake up and smell the coffee...

asking people to use condoms is like misleading them? :?

Well said, CAD!

About the virginity issue... I remember once during my second year of graduation one of my wingies and I were having a discussion on this. I told him that I did not expect my wife to be a virgin. He said that he expected his to be because, and I quote, "If I can control my urges till marriage then I expect her to control hers too". That was blah! It was like saying, "If I am a loser why should my wife not be?"

Make no mistake, I am not promoting pre-marital sex here. But there are events in one's life where such things happen. Sex is among the most beautiful ways of making a union of souls. Not just the physical gratification, it is the mental bliss that one gets out of it that is difficult to get any other way.

At the same time, I do believe that it is wrong to indulge in sex when you have to pay for it. You are not only cheating yourself but also the long time partner you may have sometime in the future. And I don't care if paid sex is pre-marital or extra-marital. It is just wrong. If you want physical gratification then there is such a thing as self-help.

Which Indian culture are you talking about dude? The India I know used to marry its daughters before they attained puberty. You talking about teenage gals having sex, ask your grandma how old she was when she had your father... I bet that she wouldnt have been more than 15. Mine was 15 when she conceived my father. Know what your culture is before you start talking about culture. The culture and morals you are preaching are not Indian cultural values.

why bring all this here? did khushboo or sania recommend any of that? "pre-marital sex" doesnt not necessarily mean sex by kids . its just means "sex before marriage". the reality of this century is that more people (incl teens) are having sex b4 marriage - and it is foolish to ignore that saying "it cant happen in my family" etc. so whats wrong in telling them abt condoms and other contraceptives...?
b4s wrote:...am a indian at heart....i love indian culture and traditions....
this is the same indian culture that wrote various books on sex, most famous being the Kamasutra. indian culture never treated sex as something shameful or sinful. all that crap started with the influence of foreign culture in india.
b4s wrote:indian women are identified by saree..bangles..sindur..etc..if women stop wearing all these..then u don't find much difference b/t indian an europian....

 arre...safe sex is what khushboo was talking about!
btw, parents are the BEST persons to teach the growing children abt sex and other facts of life. all the other sources u mentioned usually mislead the kids with wrong information and myths abt sex. i learnt abt sex from the peer group and porn (no internet back then) and i later realised what misconceptions i grew up with.

i know u still believ in fantastic tales of how to identify a virgin girl, but let me tell u its all bullshit...its not possible to ensure the virginity of girls - get this in your head.

Where do dinosaurs like you come up from b4s? Your views are so disgusting and old-fashioned that museums should pay you a hefty sum to display your mindset. :x

Well (with patient deliberation), 21st century means mobile phones, television sets, shopping malls, internet.....and more than anything else, using intellligence while dressing, talking, writing, shopping and questioning if one should always follow what 'culture' dictates and also whether culture really dictates that.
Btw, if you are talking about skin shows, minis, transparent clothes, etc., from whatever I gathered from old paintings and sculptures, our ancestors dressed their women in pretty revealing clothes...our minis and all pale in comparison.... :? :?

b4s wrote:i really don't know about 21 century..or what it stands for.....

Yes, I agree with you, you really don't know that. Most probably you are mistakenly born in this century, your mindset seems to be at least 500 years old.

b4s wrote:as far as am concerned ...am a indian at heart....i love indian culture and traditions.....

And what exactly are 'Indian culture' and 'traditions'? Do you love them because you are scared to question them? Or do you love them because you don't really know what they are?

b4s wrote:indian women are identified by saree..bangles..sindur..etc..if women stop wearing all these..then u don't find much difference b/t indian an europian....

On my recent trip, I found europeans wearing sarees, bindis and bangles....so going by your logic there is no difference between Indians and europeans...tch tch tch....now what do we do?

b4s wrote:i wud like to know, what's the need of immitating europian culture...

Exactly, stop wearing trousers, wear only lungi and dhoti...

Yes, they did. And because they did not know about sex, they managed to give birth to a herd of kids, and usually died because of child-cirth related problems. If that is the type of culture you want to continue, then dude, god bless the girl you would marry.

Exactly, so why not teach them?

b4s wrote:uncles..

Uncles??? :? :? You prefer that kids learn from their uncles and not parents? What type of perverted uncle did you have who taught you about sex???

b4s wrote:magazines...tv's..net etc..

So, you do agree that as every public media blares information about sex, then there is absolutely no reason why it should be a topic of discussion?

b4s wrote:parents should teach about safe sex..if they feel like teaching them.

Please make up your mind - do you want parents to teach their kids about sex or not? Or are you confused about 'safe' and 'unsafe'?

b4s wrote:will any parent ask their children(below 16 years) to have sex ..using condome???

Yes, their parents will say, if you have sex, use a condom...

b4s wrote: we have rights and also some duties......

Yeah, and your duty seems to be dragging India back to dark ages.

b4s wrote:we should protect our culture......if not..it may lead to the end of hinduism or indian culture....

So, how do you plan to 'rptect' your culture? By having 'unprotected' sex?

b4s wrote:atleast am not gonna immitate europian culture........am a 100% hindu..and belive 100% in indian culture..even if i marry..then it wud be 100 % indian girl who looks 100% indian in looks ..behaviour etc..

Define:
1. 100% Indian culture
2. 100% Indian girl
3. 100% Indian looks

Ok CAD, handle the cry baby like an 'uncle'...

Good to get people like you on the boards, at least there is someone to shout at...otherwise most men on this board seem to be pretty logical and clear-minded, and their views match mine, so end up agreeing with their views.

sania said,"It's not possible to put a curb on pre-marital sex and the best way to curb aids is to play it safe"...............

sania also said,"Look, whether it's before or after marriage, people should have safe sex. And about pre-marriage sex, you can't stop people and hence the best way is to play it safe"

If Sania said that, hats off to her. That was a very mature and practical statement and may there be more public figures like her!!!!

B4s wrote:i think, u all agree that now sania a role model to many young girls n (for boys too) in india.
most of the girls and their parenst are blindly following her.....most of the girls and their parents are blindly dreaming that one day they also become a great tennis player like sania etc....they are not bothered about they financial position or fitness or physic.....
so..here i would like to say that...sania's comments will have a great impct on young girls and boys.....

Yes, and that will be good...they will learn something good.

B4s wrote:they just start thinking that there's nothing wrong if u have pre-martial sex..one can enjoy sex at any age but...one should play it safe by using condomes etc..

If the youth is so dumb and they need someone's declaration to validate what they are doing...then so be it.

B4s wrote:every one has the right to freedom of speach..but it doesnt mean that u mis-use ur right by misleading youth.....
we stop people from making any comments that leads to communal rigts or speaches which encourage youth towards terrorism...
so i personally feel that sania was wrong in making such commenst.....

You are comparing sania's comments to terrorism?

B4s wrote:every one like to see is girl friends in sexy modern dress but i think, one never want her wife to wear sexy dress and move in ppl....

Great, what double standards you have buddy!!!!  WHen she is your 'girlfriend', you want her to wear sexy dresses so that you can show her off, you like her because she wears sexy dresses. Then she becomes your 'wife', and you make her wear all dull and drab dresses so that someone better than you doesn't get attracted to her and you can keep her under your...er...thumb always.

B4s wrote:one would never like to marry a girl who has/had sex before their marriage....one would always love to marry a virgin..

We have another discussion thread on that....where is YCR when you need him most???

B4s wrote:am sorry if my comment hurt any one of you.....

No, it didn't hurt me, why should it?

It just makes me realize that pathetic persons like you still exist....

It was like saying, "If I am a loser why should my wife not be?"

so according to you one who doesn't have sex before marriage is a loser? May god bless you

Having sex before or after marriages should be left to one's decision, he or she has the right to do whatever they want to do or say, but when talking/expressing views publicly one should behave responsibly, saying things like "one should not expect his wife to be a virgin" or "nobody can stop people from having premartial sex" publicly wont help. It conveys a message that everyone is expected to have premartial sex.

Now I'm not supporting the things done by PMK and their supporters to khusboo, every one knows what these politicians are upto, they just want enough issues which they can exploit to win the next elections.
