The difference, my dear, is that the hindus protesting the postal stamp neither declared 'Jihad' on anyone nor did they issue a fatwa to kill the Post Master General of UK. :)

I dont understand your question. You mean to ask why they didnt issue a fatwa or you mean to ask why they were offended by the postal stamp?

abt the stamp controversy, IMO its an unnecessary issue...the picture is a piece of art that is displayed in a mumbai museum without creating any controversy...why start one now....i dont see it as offensive.

Actually it shows a Hindu couple worshipping baby jesus. They are protesting it because conversions is a hot issue now in India.

worshipping? :? it doesnt look that way to me. those 2 are just holding infant jesus. i think the tikka on their foreheads represents the localization of christianity in india. even today many indian catholic ladies wear the tikka on the forehead. to say that the picture promotes conversion is very far fetched. moreover this picture has been painted abt 2 centuries ago and still exists in india.

i see the picture as being somewhat similar to this:

this is an unnecessary issue over nothing. protesting if images of hindu gods are used on items like footwear or underwear is justified, but this is crazy...too many people sitting idle looking for publicity...

thats crazy...what i said is very much true and it invites anger from muslims because they cant answer those charges...a muslim does feel more kinship with other muslims across the globe than with his homeland. no one can refute this....

i am sure that DQ dude is behind asking the moderators to delete that post. btw, why did they delete the entire thread?

I think it is true for Indian subcontinent muslims (India, pak and bangla... arabs are as nationalistic as anyone, if not more). That is what I gathered from my interactions with muslims around the world and from the posts on these boards. If you dig old threads you will find some people loudly proclaiming that they are more close to palestinians than rest of Indians. But then, I do not want to generalize too much... may be I just met a few bad apples.

HIGH RANKING POLICE OFFICER: AN ARDENT EVOLVER.

The authorities in India's Uttar Pradesh state are trying to work out what to do with a senior police officer who likes dressing up in drag.

Things came to a head last week when inspector general Devendra Kumar Panda turned up in court in a yellow dress and dark red lipstick.

TV news channels flocked to his home to film him worshipping Hindu deity Lord Krishna in the form of a tree.

Mr Panda says he is the reincarnation of Goddess Radha, Lord Krishna's beloved.

His wife takes a different view - she has filed for separation because he is not behaving like a husband.

The court in Lucknow ordered Mr Panda to pay 7,000 rupees ($150) a month in maintenance allowance.

Wife's fears

Mr Panda's wife, Veena, fears he may lose his job - and she her maintenance allowance.

That is my private bed room. Only Krishna can enter there

Inspector general DK Panda

"Please keep my future in mind," she told reporters. "I am a 51-year-old lady and a graduate. I should not suffer due to any action against him."

The couple have been married for 33 years and have two sons, but Mr Panda now pays his family no attention.

He has been spending his time embracing a peepal, or holy fig, tree in his garden, chanting mantras to his beloved Lord Krishna.

One room in his house is kept sacred and secret.

"That is my private bed room. Only Krishna can enter there," he says.

'Strange behaviour'

There is nothing unusual in a Hindu ascetic getting up early and quoting from scriptures, as Mr Panda does.

Nor is it uncommon for Hindu sects to worship deities as lovers, or for men to live like women devotees.

But Mr Panda's position is a tricky one, seeing as he is a senior police officer.

Colleagues kept his penchant for ladies' clothes a secret for years, but must now decide what to do with a man who has become a figure of ridicule.

"The appearance and behaviour of Mr Panda is strange," admits director general of police, Yashpal Singh.

"But maybe he is suffering from some mental problem and any disciplinary action may precipitate things."

Why should someones cross dressing effect his wife and kids.

Why should other police officers take a stringent view, leave him to worship his diety, why is he being exploted ;-P :-P :-D

Three killed as Hindus attack Muslim village

Associated Press in Lucknow

Monday November 7, 2005

The Guardian

A group of Hindus attacked a Muslim village in northern India on Saturday night, police said yesterday, setting fire to homes and killing three people. The attack was prompted by rumours that cows, considered holy by Hindus, had been slaughtered for the Islamic Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

Hindus from neighbouring areas attacked Mehndipur village in Uttar Pradesh and set fire to dozens of houses after being told villagers had killed the cows for a feast to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. A police investigation revealed that no cows had been slaughtered in the village.

Well, everyone's brains are not as 'flexible' as yours, so a normal wife and kids will be confused and irritated with their husband and father's 'transformation'...

'Exploited'? If you read the article, you would realize that other police officers were actually helping to keep the news under wraps...and no ones stopping him from worshipping his deity, they are just trying to help other people related to him lead a normal life themselves.

Children of a Lesser God?
- By Massoud Ansari

On Friday, November 10, several dozen Ahmadis were offering their Isha prayers in their mosque in village Takht Hazarat of Sargodha district when they heard loud voices outside. Sensing trouble, one of the worshippers bolted the mosque's wooden door from inside. It was too little, too late. Outside was a frenzied mob consisting of students of the local seminary who were looking for trouble. They demolished the boundary wall of the property, broke open the door, and rushed inside. Chanting slogans of "Nara-e-Takbir and Allah-o-Akbar," the students wielding pick-axes, sticks and firearms, attacked the terrified worshippers, clearly with the intent to kill. When they finally dispersed they left behind some broken, bloodied corpses and several others hovering on the brink.

Four Ahmadis, including Nasir Hussain, president of the local Ahmadiyya community, died on the spot. Many others were grievously injured. One of the latter, 14-year-old Mudassar Ahmed, subsequently succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Recalls Bashir Ahmed, who suffered serious wounds during the mob attack but lived to tell the tale, "Even when they had beaten us senseless, the assailants did not stop. They continued to hack at us with their pick-axes to ensure they had completed their task – killing us."

The violence in Takht Hazarat was triggered when a teenager, Ismail, lost a hand in an accident while cutting grass. Local Ahmadis were said to have remarked that God had punished the boy because he used to curse them. This led to hostilities between the Muslim villagers and the Ahmadi community. Subsequently, students of the local seminary used loudspeakers at the village mosque to exhort the 'faithful' of the area to collect and "teach these infidels a lesson." Within no time, a mob comprising more than 500 individuals was marching to the Ahmadi mosque, intent on settling scores.

This is just one of the many incidents of violence against the Ahmadi sect, and the most serious one since October 30, when five members of the community were gunned down and several others injured during an attack at the Bait al-Zikir, an Ahmadiyya mosque in Ghatilian village near Sialkot. According to the figures released by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, 94 Ahmadis were killed during 1994-1996, while there were murderous assaults on 70 others. Moreover, at least 38 places of Ahmadi worship were either burnt, damaged or forcibly occupied during this period, 15 graves were desecrated and 26 burials of members of the community were either prevented, or the rites disrupted........
