I concur.

Its easy to be judgmental and critical when someone moves away from the norm and does his or her thing. Why should his cross-dressing affect us when hes doing it behind closed doors? Until someone does something that harms people or society as a whole, we should just mind our own business, live and let live.

Just my opinion.

I agree that we all have a right to our views. As long as Swarna was cross-dressing in the confines of his home, nobody posted anything about him, did anyone?

But he chose on his own accord to post about his crossdressing tendencies on a public forum (mind you, even kids access this forum). I'm sure he knew he would definitely invite some gags and some sharp comments. Moreover, I don't think any forum on this board qualifies to hold the kind of post that Swarna had put up. There are other places on the net specifically meant for such people. This is not a meeting point for cross-dressers and the user knew that pretty well. (Are the mods listening? I don't think they are.)

Jquader and Alexis...You were quite prompt to come to his rescue when people were laughing at him. Did you ever think of looking at the other side of the coin that impressionable minds would be having access to the links posted by him. Doesn't that constitute a harm to society?

And extending the logic of anythng behind closed doors being okay, how would you react to a member of your own family doing such things behind closed doors? Would you just ignore it? I'm sure you'll try and counsel him/her, maybe even take him/her to a psychiatrist. Why do we turn a blind eye to others doing such things in such close proximity (online proximity) to us? Double effing standards.

Ok, first of all, I wasnt coming to anyones rescue. What I posted were my views on the matter.

So he posted those photos on this public forum, if not this, then he would have found another one very similar to this one to post them on. So what? We have to protect all the impressionable minds from them? How?

Switch on the tv and tell me that everything that comes on is something we'd want our 10 yr olds to watch. Go to a theater to see some hindi movie, tell me you dont think that there should be more censorship or atleast some guidelines as to what scenes are appropriate to what movie. Even billboards on the street will have something racy.

Even on the computer, jaw-dropping pop-ups will appear out of nowhere.

All forms of media contain unsavory and disgusting matter, its just the way it is.

HP, I understand what you mean. But really, theres no perfect way we can shield youngsters from the shocking and taboo practices, beliefs, and alternate lifestyles that society is plagued with.

And Im not saying that we're fighting a losing battle. Because I know its still very possible that the kids will turn out fine in the end, as long as the parents or guardians guide them in that direction.

I believe it is time for me to give my two cents to this thread.

I have never believed in moral or social policing. It is for that exact same reason that I believe the censor board in India be scrapped and a new body constituted that only rates movies based on the content - they do no snip out what they deem objectionable because that is highly subjective.

Coming to the issue at hand, while I myself am not sure if I approve of cross-dressing I care a damn if someone I know does. That is a lifestyle choice that they make. And why is it that we single out men cross-dressing when all around us we accept women in pants? Isn't there a double standard here?

Coming to the pictures. I saw a few and I did not find any of them pornographic or lewd. Displeasing to the eyes may be but that is because of the prejudices that I may have. But how different were they from pictures of the meet being posted? Just because none of the men in the meet cross-dressed does that make it acceptable?

I believe people should be allowed to do their thing. In a way, I would be happy if more people came out of the closet. If we accept homosexuality today why can we not accept cross-dressing?

And what impressionable minds? Would you rather have the kids live in an Uptopian world for as long as they can and then let reality hit them in their faces? We cannot ignore or sweep under the carpet the goings on in today's world.

May be this is not the forum for cross-dressing people to meet. But this is not a forum for any of us to meet either. Why single out people based on their lifestyle choices?

ahh...well...

majority of the men (by that i mean 99.99%) dont mind going out with women wearing pants

and majority of the women (by that i mean 99.99%) will definitely mind going out with a man wearing a sari/salwar-kameez

aint it ...u can call it prejudice or whatever u want it... but its not going to change a thing...

Alexis :

You cannot justify a wrong by citing another. Just because whats dished out on tv nowadays is not really suitable for kids, we cannot allow such things to exist elsewhere. And yes. I agree that we cannot prevent such things from happening at all the places. But does that in any way imply that we should allow them to happen at places where we can stop them from happening? We should try and stop such nonsense from happening wherever and whenever we can.

Lucifer :

If you can't stand the heat, leave the kitchen is a nice line for flames, but well....the niceness stops there. You say that there should be no censorship etc. and people should be allowed to make their own choice. I remember that sometime ago, at an FH meet, you had a problem with some members smoking. And you expressed it in not so friendly terms. Now, don't those members have a right to their own free will? I'm sure you'll counter this by saying that the smoking was creating a problem for some other people around. And there exactly lies my point. We all have problems with something or the other. And there should be some laws, rules and checks and balances to make sure that people are not inconvenienced. When you say that whats objectionable is subjective, you should remember that you yourself aren't okay with certain things that happen around you. How would you feel if the ban on smoking in public places or the ban on loudspeakers past a certain hour is removed? Not very happy I'm sure.

Even I'm in favour of people coming out of the closet. We are a free country and I don't believe on suppression of any kind to exist in our country. But there should be a method to this. Being a free country doesn't mean being a country of chaos. We are free to indulge in anything we want as long as it doesn't tread on someone else's sensitivity. How would you react to a pair indulging in a bout of cybersex on the SIO section? Or for that matter, a homosexual orgy on the road right in front of your house? Would you still defend them in the name of free thinking? There are gay forums (not online discussion forums but real ones) in all major cities of India today. People following that particular lifestyle can meet and mingle in such fora. Why can't cross-dressers start something like that for themselves?

And I somehow don't buy this point about shielding young minds from such things and then reality hitting them in their face. Why don't we expose children to everything evil then? Drugs, bombs, incest...the list goes on. Shouldn't they be privy to all this too rather than reality hitting them in their face when they grow up? Utterly regressive line of thought in the name of free thinking.

lucifer wrote:May be this is not the forum for cross-dressing people to meet. But this is not a forum for any of us to meet either. Why single out people based on their lifestyle choices?

Well....let me explain you what a discussion board means. Its an online space for a community to discuss about various things. Swarna's post was more of a personal ad soliciting companionship. There is a section of fullhyd called Netpals which would have been more appropriate for something like that, isn't it? And if you feel this is not a place for any of us to meet, please refrain from coming to the next meet or any other after that.

CAD :

True....kids will find some place or the other where they can access porn or the like. And as Alexis pointed out, there is no perfect way of shielding them. Why don't you rent out a porn CD and watch it with your son in that case? Easier said than done.

I am just going to say one thing here and this has to be in big letters.

I am NOT against smoking and I have never ever expressed my reservations against it anywhere, leave alone the FH meet where I did not even know people well enough to object.

Hell, I grew up on passive smoking all the time and I have no issues with anyone smoking. I do not know how HP got that idea. I need people here to come out and defend me. This is a scathing attack on my character. :D

As regards anything else that HP has issues with, he is entitled to his opinion as I am to mine.

PS: To be taken with a grain of salt. :P
