AP Formation Day: YSR, Naidu Greet People

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has called upon the people to be ready for sacrifices in achieving the State's all-round development.

In a message issued on the eve of the State entering the 50th year of it's formation, he exhorted the people to strengthen the Government's efforts to ensure that all sections of society received their due.

* Dr. Reddy recalled the contributions and sacrifices made by eminent people like Potti Sriramulu, Boorgula Ramakrishna Rao and others for carving out a separate State for Telugus.

# The Government was striving hard to remove the imbalances and ensure development of all regions.

* TDP Chief's Appeal

Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu extended his wishes to the people of the State on the occasion.

He made an appeal to all those in the public service to dedicate themselves for all round development of the State and welfare of all sections.

So much for 'padhahaaru anaalu'

Nover 1'st 1956 was the day when Andhra Pradesh in its present borders was formed with 23(?) districts and Hyderabad as capital. 'Andhra rastram' with 13 districts and Kurnool as capital was formed in 1953, thanks to the sacrifice made by Sri Potti Sri Ramulu in 1952.

Image

For those who dont know about him, he was the Personal Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi during independance movement and following his footsteps, he fasted for 52 days unto death. After his death and resultant voilence, Andhra was formed.

This prompted other people to demand for seperate states based on language and GOI set up a comission, based on whose recommendations Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil nadu and Kerala were formed on November 1, 1956.

Trivia: Madras had a telugu speaking majority (90%) before AP formation and was to be part of AP and so was Tirupathi. But since AP cannot have all the major cities, we kept tirupathi and gave madras to tamilnadu. :D

That ends todays History Class.

This is a Joke for year 2005.

and so was Tirupathi

I live in Nagari extreme -southern part of AP.
Here all economical and political activities go in both the languages. - TAMIL and TELUGU.
We used to go to nearby THIRUTHANI MURUGAN TEMPLE (TAMILNADU) very often.
Believe me the bus fare between these 2 places is just Rs 5/- now.

IN THIRUTHANI I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE TTD (TIRUMALA TIRUPATI DEVASTANAM) BUILDING IN A DILAPIDATED STATE.

It is a beautiful colonial British type building.

Some body says the building is sealed after the legal warfare between two states.

Somebody also told me that illegal brothel activities take place there in the Happy night hours.

But since AP cannot have all the major cities, we kept tirupathi

Even today you can see the Tamil inscriptions in the BALAJI temple, TIRUMALA.

I have the blood of both Telugu and Tamil (Mixed Parentage)

My regrets if somebody got wounded by this messages.

You are right Mr MM.
But because of the laziness of Politicians, AP State lost 2 Taluks in the yaer 1959 by the way of a Central Govt Act.

the Andra Pradesh and Madras Alteration of Boundaries Act, 1959

Consequent on the implementation of the Andra Pradesh and Madras Alteration of Boundaries Act, 1959, with effect from 1.4.1960, Tirutani Taluk and Pallipattu sub-taluk of Chittoor district of Andra Pradesh were transferred to Madras (Tamil Nadu) and annexed with the Chengalpattu District.

Sri, how is the info you gave related to this thread?

I was thinking about Tirutani. It was part of AP once upon a time.( From the year 1952 to 1959)

It slipped in TN hands in the year 1959.

Thanks the Lazy and corrupt politicians of AP .

The Politicians should have been very active.

Especially the MPs in those days should have given a fight in the Parliament.

Even nowadays, In Tirutani Telugu is used bit more than Tamil.

how does it matter to the people...? is it affecting their daily life?

all border districts in any state have pockets where linguistically the 'other' language might be more prevalent...but does this really matter?

take the case of Mantralayam and Bellary in AP and Karnataka respectively.

"Loser" / "Gainer" ... What About The NATION ...

AP Did Lose Out In 1956 ... To Orissa (Ganjam / Barampuram) ... To Karnataka (Raichur, Bellary) ... To Tamil Nadu ( Chennapatnam / "Chennai") ...

But ALL This May Be Best Seen As The Nation's GAIN! ... If AP Has More ... It Is The NATION Which Ha MORE! ... Better See It That WAY!

Not that I know much about AP, being relatively new to the place, but this thread does prod me to post. Why do I see this frightening ultra-nationalistic mindset when it comes to states? People are ready to lay down lives for carving a telangana out of AP. A lot of blood has been shed in Belgaum a few years ago in riots between Maharashtra and Karnataka supporters. People from Uttaranchal look down upon people from the rest of UP. People from Saurashtra (a region in Gujarat) scoff at being called Gujaratis.

I can see logic in creating smaller states on the basis of administrative convenience. But this sense of false pride in losing out a taluk or two to a neighbouring state is unfortunate. Aren't these very thoughts the seeds of another Khalistan or a Bodoland?

As HH sir put it, we may feel this false pride vis-a-vis states on gaining or losing a taluk or a district. But why do we forget that we are Indians first and Andhrites or Tamilians later?

In our state of domicile we feel and treated like first class citizens.

In other states we are not treated as 1 class citizens.

This is the unfortunate fact in India.

I differ. I've stayed at many different places in India. Delhi, Faridabad & Karnal in the north; Ahmedabad, Surat & mumbai in the west; Bangalore and Hyderabad in the south. I have friends spread all over India. You are the first person who came up with this first class/second class treatment issue. I've never faced this earlier and haven't heard anyone else facing it either.

Yes..I can understand problems like language etc. cropping up for people who actually reside in a place away from their native place. But how should it matter to a Hyderabadi for instance, if a particular taluk on the AP-TN border stays in AP or in TN? It remains a part of India anyways, right?

even i agree with N-HP. tho i am not an andhrite or a telugu, i never felt differently treated than the telugus. such feeling of discrimination is surely an imagination or an exaggerated explanation of any other grievance.

taluqas in AP that border tamilnadu have AIADMK and DMK contesting and winning local body elections...who is discriminating against them? i know many telugus in bellary district who never felt alienated in karnataka.

Something I will never understand. May be it is because their identity is based on their language and they donot want to lose it.
