Need Help in getting a Marriage Certificate

by Ankit » Tue Oct 04, 2005 2:05 pm

I need help in getting my marriage registered under the Hindu Marriage Act and getting a certificate issued for the same. If someone can update me on the process / documentation and the authorities to be contacted, it will be great help.

I think the first step required is "Get Married"
Let's get out of these wet clothes and into a dry Martini.

if you are married in the traditional way, then its a day's job to get the certificate. u have to go to the registrar office for yr area with wedding photos as proof. then after filling the form and a nominal fee, you n yr wife have to sign the register along with 3-4 witnesses. u generally get the certificate in a few hours in the same day. dont forget to take a packet of sweets to the registrar office to distribute after signing the register :)

if you are not yet married in the traditional way, you have to fill in the application and there will be a one month notice period after that. that period is for anyone to object to the wedding. if u are running away n getting married, beware...this is the perfect moment for clerks and touts to extort money from you by threatening to reveal abt yr wedding plans to yr family (the address has to be given in the form).

after the notice period, if no one has objected to the marriage, the formalities of signing are the same.

btw, u have to take age proof with you in either case.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

Thanks CtrlAltDel! That was pretty informative. Now, the only issue is how do I get the address / contact information of registrar of my area? Any pointers anyone?

the wedding registration is done by same ppl who register property, births n deaths. so talk to yr neigbors n ask for the address of the SubRegistrar's office.

If in Hyderbad go to Registrar office at Koti (Near Karachi Bakery). Talk to person sitting outside the gate. He will tell you what are the documents needed and he will complete all the formalities for a price. I did that last week only.

Cheers!

Can someone give the exact address of Registrar Office? Is the marrigae needs to be done in hyderabad for the registration? What if the marriage is done under Hindu rituals in some other city? Can it still be registered here?

I vaguely remember someone telling me that it would be tough to do that if the marriage is in another city...but i guess u'd better clarify that! As for the address of the registrar office, sorry! i didn't get married in hyd, so donno! but do clarify about whether it is possible for u to get it registered in Hyd inspite of having gotten married elsewhere ok.
