Recent days in Delhi

RAILWAY STATION

After 10 hours journey, our slow train reached New Delhi in morning hours. We feared the atrocities of the touts. However, this time we cannot see much of the touts. (Pleasant surprise)

We have to roam for half an hour around paharganz. Finally, we had to settle in an airtight room for Rs250/- per day.

Immediately the first step we did was to tell for a taxi. In Delhi the standard taxi rates are Rs650/- per 8 hours ride which is further limited to 80 kilometers only. They charge Rs 4.50 for additional kilometer and Rs 25/- each for additional hour. The hotel manager boy warned us to be in position by 0930 hrs. We finished the breakfast in a dash. When we reached the hotel that fellow was simply chewing the pan. After a good kick in his bottoms, he could arrange the vehicle. The vehicle was nothing but 15-year-old Maruthi Omni. It was in a good condition.

Indira Gandhi memorial house.

It was sad to see the sari worn by the late prime minister when she was killed. The whole house has been air conditioned very well. It was surprising to see the old Toshiba personal computer used by Mr Rajiv Gandhi.

The last dress of Rajiv Gandhi has also been displayed there.

Then we came to the QUTUB MINAR COMPLEX

The tower was huge. The main point of attraction was the tomb of Ala-ud-Din Khalji. I was standing on top of his tomb for some seconds. In nearby place we could see some courting couple.

I surprise how the tombs attract the young couples. Crazy.

Unfortunately, the archeological survey of India has not laid clear boards.

I was trying hard to point the locations with Foot print guide map.

Finally, my wife took my photograph with GUPTA'S iron pillar in back ground. It did not come well.

Our next step was to go to the Lotus temple of bahai religion.

It is nothing but a huge hall with glass surroundings. Shoes are not allowed inside.

I could see even some young foreign girls controlling the crowd.

Then we came to the nearby ISCON temple at about 1400 hrs. Unfortunately the temple was closed by then. However, we had the opportunity to see the Sound light show sort of the thing there. They collect donation of Rupees 30/-

We had very economical and best lunch in front of the hare rama temple. For a group of five it cost just Rs 96/-

We then came to

Raj Ghat. (Gandhi Samadhi) the over Yamuna riverside.

In the samathi there is a paid foot wear deposit center. There is also a free footwear-keeping place. However, the notice board warns you that you may loose your shoes.???? FEROZ SHAW KOTLA

Over little bit distance away we saw the archeologically important spot the feroz shaw kotla(the citadel). The Ashoka piller over there impressed me. We climbed over there. We took photographs near the great Ashoka stupa.

My wife cursed me for wasting the time.

Then we went to the Raisina hills. We came to the parliament OF INDIA building. I was trying to take photos. But I was heavily warned.

we went to the South Block buildings where Prime ministers office is placed. We were relived by the mothers milk ice cream center inside that building.

Then we came to the prestigious India Gate. I wanted to go near the flames below that structure. But we were not allowed.

Our next destination was Palika Bazaar for shopping.

This time I could observe the rude behaviour of the shop keepers.

Most of them were really arrogant. But few of them were friendly.

So tourists must be careful while bargaining the items. Sometimes the shopkeepers join hands and may abuse the customers.

My findings on more areas of Delhi will continue in this same topic.

Karol Bagh

by Sri » Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:12 pm

The next day morning we went to the Karol Bagh.

We were told the Ajmal Khan market is best for middle classer’s.

The main attraction now a day is the trolley type of suitcases.

You can buy a medium sized good quality trolley for Rs 550/-

The shopkeepers usually start the prize in the range Rs1800/-

I think nowadays Karol Bagh has become more attractive for Rucksack materials. I bought a wonderful Rucksack made of Parachute cloth material for just Rs 500/-

My responsibility of buying a suitable chudi for my wife was completed as we found a wholesale shop over there. Wonderful piece for just Rs800/-

(But my wife still not satisfied, She asks one more for Diwali)

Lots and lots of south Indian people move around here for shopping.

The pleasant surprise is the newly opened, wonderfully tasting south Indian UDUPI type restaurant in Ajmal khan road.

The other day we faced insult.

The Bihari speaking B*****d was selling the suitcases.

We were trying to buy a trolley type.

That roadside shopkeeping B*****d kept on reducing the prize.

He was waiting us to accept that at some prize.

At one time his mood became foul (tempered in disappointment) that he told us not to come again to his shop onceagain . I gave him back nicely.

My request and suggestion for the tourists is BE careful with this type of street side shop keeping bastards.

I will write more stories on

Delhi metro

Chandini chowk

Red fort

Digambar jain temple.

***** Palika Bazaar Is "Out Of Bounds" For The Respectable Families ...

Sadly this must be the true fact now.

Some shop keepers come and whisper near you to buy their porn stuff (Pirated VCDs) for as low as Rs50/-
