Calling all Mixed Breeds!

My dad\'s from one of the southern states while my mom\'s from up north. I\'ve faced an identity crisis sometimes and the fact that I don\'t know either language doesn\'t help.......Are there others like me?

So, to which culture did u get inclined to? South Indian or north Indian? Since you didn\'t get either of your parents languages, did u end up learning some Konkani or Assamese language instead?

TELUGU!!!!! I know more of Telugu (it\'s more than just a smattering... thankfully!) than the other 2 languages. The bottom line... there is a sense of belonging when I call myself a Hyderabadi...

I\'m not of mixed breed. I\'m a north indian brought up in Hyderabad. and I very proudly call myself a Hyderabadi.

Great!!!

First thing I notice abt the northies is their hindi & their style of speaking... apna tho its more of Hyderabadi.. mix of hindi + eng + urdu + telegu!! and whenever I meet a pucca northie, its always a pleasure listening him/her talk. what do you say?

I think it is great to be a mixed breed. I am one too, as I am a born and bred kashmiri and my dad is from Hyderbad. I found it great to be at ease with the northies and the southies. But, nothing can beat the hyderabadi slang. It is so sweet and I used to love trying it out on my northie friends. Naz

Hey Naz join the club! Saps, its always a pleasure to hear an articulate speaker, but you are probably impressed by the unadulterated hindi.......hyd slang?? Where are the original pall-bearers of the hyderabadi slang?!!!

Thanks for the inclusion in the club!!! The urdu or hindi in the north has it\'s charm but nothing to beat the hyderabadi. Living in the north and meeting a hyderabadi was so good. I loved to get back to the slang. Please read the other boards on hyderabadi shayari and the discussions. I just love the way people are expressing themselves. It brings back a lot of nuances that are missing in our lives of today. Naz

Nope, I did not feel the identity crisis because I got to see the best of both sides. And I have to admit that I was partial to the southern side of my parentage. But it is harder now explaining it to my children who are of a more varied breed. They have lived abroad and just visit India. I wonder what they think of the crisis they find themseves in. Naz

Maverick...Are you anyways worried..abt this fact that you have this feeling called identity crisis..? come on be a sport.. can,t you see so many ppl across your society who are leading such lives..it is order of the day...i suggest you should worry abt yourself than your identity as hyderabadi or as otherwise!!...may be you can rely on my advise..from time to time !!

I don\'t think u got me..........When I say i-crisis I mean that all around me there are ppl who belong to different communities.....each community has a distinct culture of its own......Telugus, Maardus, TamBrahms,......I don\'t feel totally left out bcoz I get to learn a lot about each of them but........but its slightly different in my case..hey I\'m NOT COMPLAINING......it was just a thought....I hope u got that pal...

Just a reminder \"mixed breed\" refers to creation / production of , in this case, offsprings with a combination of different species.

What you are actually referring to offsprings of interregional marriages - however within same species.

I want to make it clear that this message is only to highlight the meaning of mixed breed and does not intend to humiliate anyone or hurt anybody\'s feelings or sentiments.
