by Kulcha Hyderabadi » Wed May 15, 2002 12:30 am

Hi guyz/galz... given the option to settle down for good, where would you like to be?? In India or Abroad. Please be honest and be objective in your discussion, no hypocracy please! I for one, will surely wanna settle Abroad. Life in India is not easy, its not the money, but basic ameneties, health care, pollution, corruption and a myriad of things that put me off. I miss home though but to give up all the facilities that I enjoy living abroad is difficult. It has nothing to do with my patriotic feelings etc....So, what are your thoughts... Once again, objective and realisitic comments please,, no hollow desh bakhti thing... thanks

Well,I think that the West offers a better standard of living whereas India offers a better quality of life.So those who prefer a better standard of living prefer to settle in the West. But I prefer to be settled in India though I have been exposed to England for five months and though I am an IITian.I found that the West is obsessed with the three s\'s of life, namely shopping, sex and spirit. Also, racial discrimination is secret but prevalent in the West.I personally believe that money solves problems upto a point but beyond it money creates problems. In India, money solves problems whereas it creates problems in the West.I also love my native state Andhra Pradesh where I can enjoy Andhra food,Andhra movies,Andhra festivals and Andhra company.

Hai I guyz,I love to be in India but want to get my pay in $\'s because how much one get or one go to top if one does\'t have his own to share his feelings its all waste. It is something like being in mahal alone as a devi.I don\'t think what we are missing here we can get somewhere else. I ever think there will also we find something that is missing there and it will present here.

Sher bhai, take some time out of your busy schedule and tell those who were affected in Gujarat about loving thier homeland.... a place where they were born, bred, educated and were working hard to put back something into the community! Lemme tell ya friend, at the end of the day, its what you get and where you feel comfortable is your homeland!

All of you who want to settle abroad please do so and note all the points you are making now in favour of your decision in a diary and keep it safe. I am sure at one point, and it is not far, every one like you would have to return to this land again. When it happens I would like you to go back to your diary and refresh your mind again with the same ideas and then look at India/Hyderabad. You\'ll have a very great feeling about yourself...

It is really a shame to have such feelings about the place where took birth, learnt the basics of life, grew, got educated and became what ever you are today.

Look around the world and do a little bit of research and you will find the treatment immigrants received in other parts of the world. Don\'t take today for GRANTED for you never know what would happen tomorrow.

It would be nice if you guys start thinking of building India - home sweet home - like you do to your own house.

IT IS DISGUSTING!!!!!

i bellieve it is the number of friends one has in any place that makes the person attached to a place...comforts and luxuries are what we define for ourselves...there is absolutely no point in discussing about a huge country like India , what we all know about our country is too little to form a opinion....but finally should my opinion be courted i prefer to live in western europe as i have some good friends there..

The life in US is luxurious, but after all your are a secodary citizen there. You cant vote there. just getting few dollors, also you spend them carefully in India NRI accounts, unlike US citizens who spend money for their enjoyment. You always try to get everything from India, including groceries to save a penny!! And you feel great when you visit India just becuase you live in US. The money suddenly you got made you so. You always try to blame people staying in India. Pollution, Corruption, Traffic problems are always there....we got used to it. But you guyz corrupted with \"DIRTIEST US CULTURE\"...u know what I mean...

Hi i would like to stress my view point too.
It is surely an intresting debate whether to settle in Hyderabad or Abroad.
I was really happy to see some of you guys frankly potraying what you see truly.
Let me tell you something about me first before i tell you what i think.
My family settled in U.S. some 25 yrs back. I did not leave for U.S till 96. Reason- studies and didn\'t feel like.Me and my brothers lived with both the worlds at our disposals. We had cigarette cartoons, clothes, dollars, electronic gadgets and you name it sent to us by our ever loving Parents and elder brothers. As we own a chain of stores in U.S we never had anything to worry in India.
We had the best of Cars and bikes and money to burn.
Yes we did live a carefree life untill in 96 my parents could not gulp down this fact that we were going off track and they made us come to U.S with promise that each would get a sports car of our choice and we could go back if we feel so.
Things took a diffrent turn as soon as i landed in U.S.
My parents and family did give me a new sports car and admitted me to a college but \"NOW I WAS THE OWNER OF THE CAR HENCE I HAD TO MAKE THE REST OF THE PAYMENTS\".
To do this i needed to work cos all the pocket money was stopped.
Now all of a sudden i found myself doing things i did not even dream of. My servents never did so much of work as i had to do now.
But Now I see life diffrently . I have money in my wallet that smells of my sweat and the fact that i earned it makes me proud.
So i see life totally diffrent as i am much responsible now and know how hard it is to earn money and how easy it is to spend.
Now if I would begin all over again i think i would settle abroad for all the good it has to offer and still have the privilage of visiting India when i feel like.
But i cannot stay in India for more than 2 months--reason: Ask any person settled in U.S for 5 Yrs atleas and he will give you many./Thanks guys.

Even with bags full of money, life is a pain in Hyderabad... What are you going to do about pollution, traffic, corruption, power outages, water shortage..... the list goes on... Just imagine, being caught up in traffic and you need to see a doctor in emergency??? think about it.. even your millions wont help you!

Dear Kulcha,
THe complaints that you make of Hyderabad exist everywhere. No place is free. I live in upstate New York, right next to Niagara Falls (The power production center, here) and this January, we had a snow storm and there was a power outage for 3 full days. We had nothing to do. No heat, no electricity, no telephones, no food, no transportation, driving was banned, snow caused accidents, people died. Hospitals were closed, Doctors did not work, except in emergencies, nothing worked out. Imagine what it would be like to live in temperatures of 0 degrees and lower. Believe me friend, you cannot sleep in peace. This is not the only thing, can you believe that there exists a professional insurance here, so that if you accidentally do something wrong you dont lose your entire life\'s worth. Do you know that only last week, a major power company had to buy an entire village paying three times the usual price just to make sure that people do not complain of pollution. Every complaint you make about hyderabad is valid here also. So dont believe that everything in the US or the west is nice. I understand the grass on the otherside is usually greener butonly until you go see it. Be happy that you dont have people shooting in schools, aeroplanes being used as missiles and the like.
Believe me friend there is nothing like Hyderabad and India. I am longing to be back there. A couple of years and I will be HOME again, forever.
People think these places are what dreams are made of. But they are dreams alone. What we live in and have been brought up in, Hyderabad, is real and that is how life is everywhere. Just be real and dont live in dreams.

I would like to qoute from a poem by Sir Walter Scott . It goes thus

Breathes there the man with soul so dead
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne’er within him burned,
As home his footsteps he hath turned
From wandering on a foreign strand?
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim,
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, double dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonored, and unsung.
Sir Walter Scott

Do I need to say more

Hey guyz, Don\'t think that everybody in India have the same life. There are people who have more luxorious life than anybody in US. Money does matter. If you have money and wanna enjoy a lot India is best for Indians. I am not saying about Hyderabad, may be in Mumbai or Delhi, u can have lot of fun. The culture in India has changed a lot. If you work in US, u have to think about each and every $ u spend. U have very less scope to get a big name, those guyz don\'t let u get that. But life would be cool there. Simple example, u can\'t roam on the roads like anything in US at 1AM, but u can do that in India. It\'s very simple to say that u wanna sleep at 1AM, but I am stressing about freedom to do what ever u want.

Sure, with a tonne of money sitting in treasury (not UTI ofcourse), kids having their studies in the best of colleges US or India or elsewhere - my wife retired from all her engagements with kids (its still a long way as we just had a baby!) - me having no job or business responsibility - I would like to settle in the serene India - in a very remote place - with mail man delivering the needed monthly interest/dividend check, wife brooding my royal oaks, cows embracing their calves and the extreme calmness of emotion pulling me out of life rituals -- isnt my thought a poet\'s dream but I would love having this life at least one day before my soul reaches the god! - I love INDIA and I would like to return back to my Country (of course far from politicians, far from pollution, far from dirty games of life...)

I just think the people who cannot find a job in there place, will try for an opportunity out side there state and perhaps outside there country,,....lets be frank to ourselves.....had WE been competent, and had recived premier education like IIT or IIM etc.... we would for sure have been well settled in India itself.....
It is very strange that we our selves know we were not very competent to beat the best when in India, and when we go out of the country we start complaining about the corruption and the country as a whole.........
so all the people who COMPLAIN ....i believe have not really learnt any thing from the foreign land.....you have to all realise that with out a foreign aid, and with a billion strong population to support, had it been any other country the people would have commited suicide, just because it is India, we are still surviving and living by ourselves....,some terrific achievement in just 50 years of independence.....I am for sure within the next 10 years India will be the next land of opportunities...and when this happens the so called evils like petty corruption etc.....will automatically vanish.........and at that time i wish these complaining people better not return to there home land....

dear kulcha, i think u r being really very harsh on india. afterall, it is not that a bad place to live in! where have u not got corruption? every country has its own history abt all these things. it is publisiced abt few contries (like ours) and it is not abt the others. and regarding traffic and all tht stuff, i feel it is really very stupid. i think it is not the traffic tht matters but the wide roads which really matter! and i think there is enough traffic in US of A. and u know wht, according to the recent report, USA has the largest amnt of garbage output, and it is the only country which overtakes all other countries in crime! i think u very well know this and if u hadn\'t i am very glad tht i showered sum important knowledge on u! and i completely agree with Mr.Lucifer. i think at the end of the day, wht really matters are ur frnds! depends hw much we miss thm and hw many we have got here.

Hi everybody, this is actualy very intresting topic. Iam being candid n open minded when iam writing this. This is the stuff iam thinking.so u might not agree with me but well this is whats goinn on my mind , so pls bear with me.well we been in canada for more then 9 yrs n strugled very hard intially.cuz me n my sis were very young when we moved here with my parents. we found it too hard to cope up especialy in school cuz there accent was different n we had to strugle in all aspects n now we got used to livin here n i donn wann put up the fight ,i mean go through the same pain when i go to India.I still do have friends in hyderabad but iam sure its not gonna be same. I feel after comin here we started learning abtIndia n its culture.I feel even though we are not in india we know so much abt it ,I even bet many ppl wouldnt be knowing the stuff we know abt Inida. moreover here we are independent,we donn have to ask our parents or for that matter anybody for our pocketmoney and it feels so good to have ur own money spending n i feel u will have more responsibilities n even when taking decisions too we donn relay on others ,we know whats good for us,its our life after all, n all this mature thinking comes from only being independent, positive thinking n being open minded.so if i go back to india, iam sure, even if i wann go out for a walk ,i should answer n number of ppl n i donn wann be cripled n moreover thers too much crowd, ploution, water problem, corruption n many more things n i donn wann live surrounded by these problems.atleast when i go home at the end of the day i wann it to be peaceful,no tension of \"am i gonn get water tomoro or should i fill my bucket now itself\".well this is a small example n here we can get basic luxuries.i mean we donn have to spend hundreds of dollars to live happily.I mean its not the question of money though ,but still even if u are a millionaire livin in hyderabad, can u stop population, tarffic, polution ? no i mean u only can atmost keep ur communtity clean ,well but when i see hyderabad with population under control, traffic guided properly n no corruption at any level then i would for sure love to go back to my country n live there happily ever after ... but till then iam happy where iam.

Thanks Ruhi Ji...but you missed my point. What I am saying is that a person always likes to settle down in a a place where he can earn his bread, live peacefully, with dignity and honor and without being persecuted.. Currently, very few can say that these basic requirements of human beings are available in India. By the way Ruhi Ji...If you look back into the history of mankind, from time immemorial, human beings always settled in those places where there was enough food to eat, clean water and no risk to life. Those instincts are still present and like I said, at the end of the day, the place where you can earn your bread, live peacefully without fear of being killed or persecuted....becomes your homeland.
