Cycle with Lance Armstrong in DC this October

by lonewolf » Tue Aug 02, 2005 11:21 pm

A colleague's father and Lance Armstrong are organising a 50 mile cycle ride from Maryland to Washington, DC on October 6th. This is to support the Armstrong Foundation. You'll get a LIVESTRONG bracelet from Lance once you sign up. I will get full details in a day or two.

I don't know much about Armstrong, but the 50 mile ride is very tempting. So I'll probably go for it once I buy a good bike. My colleague just suggested a place where they sell good quality ones. Anyone on the east coast, particularly Maryland, Virginia, DC, WV, New York or Pennsylvania would care to join? srtendulkar, you think you can make it?

srtendulkar lives in Fairfax, Virginia. Its only 15 miles from Washington, DC. He should be able to at least reach the ending point if not drive all the way.

Hey, if I don't get a good (and inexpensive) bike, I may not cycle at all :P

My colleague's father has some of Lance's old cycles, nah forget it.. they may not cover the 50 miles.

You can travel faster in DC by Metro (train) than by cab. Also, cabs are very expensive.

Okay, I'll ask my manager. He's a friend of Clinton's when he was in the Congress. He can probably get you a diplomat visa. :)

LOL, thats a little late. The last batch of interns in my place are winding up their internship this Friday. As far as Clinton's interns are concerned, they are busy with Bush nowadays ;) Thats why Bush doesn't give many press statements.

Ok, they have a 10 mile route for those who cannot cycle 50 miles.

The starting point for the 50-mile and 10-mile rides are not yet confirmed; Lance should be mailing about that sometime soon.

The ride is tomorrow! My colleague didn't come to office today; she and her father and taking care of the arrangements.

The ride is called Tour of Hope, and ends at White House Ellipse, Washington, DC at noon.

It begins 9 a.m. at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd. in Glen Echo, MD.

You will be eligible to cycle the 50 mile ride only if you have a record of cycling 50 miles in less than 4 hours. Alternatively, you can try the 10 mile version, but then you may not be able to meet Lance because he rides with the common folks only at the start of the 50, and then splits to join his team members.

Unfortunately I won't be cycling there tomorrow; I have some other commitments. I'll try to be there at 12 noon though; I'm anyway taking my gf to DC for lunch tomorrow.

Do you have a good cycle? Or will you come to the Ellipse directly by Metro?
