India's previous heaviest rainfall, recorded at Cherrapunji in the Meghalaya state, one of the rainiest places on Earth, was 83.82 centimeters (33 inches) on July 12, 1910, Sharma said.

It is in Assam only, unless it has jumped state.SeH wrote:India's previous heaviest rainfall, recorded at Cherrapunji in the Meghalaya state, one of the rainiest places on Earth, was 83.82 centimeters (33 inches) on July 12, 1910, Sharma said.

yes it did! They have changed boundaries of states and Chirapunji went to Meghalaya somtime in the 90's. anyway, chirapunji doesnt get highest rainfall anymore. Its neighbouring village has highest rainfall now.

'Punji was always in Meghalaya. its just 15 miles from Bangladesh border in South Meghalaya. this is what i always learnt in school in the 80s.
it is physically impossible for it to be in Assam at any time, unless whole of Meghalaya was a part of Assam too.
i wonder what school SeH n Sherry went to!
