i am not absolving Sallu of guilt, but keeping an open mind abt the fact that it might be possible he is not as guilty as its being portrayed.

I never said that it proves ki he was involved in the mumbai blasts. But what the picture does prove is that he has friendly links with the dawood and his gang. If salman was just a victim of underworld extortion, you wouldnt find a picture of him with the extortinists. So, only one conclusion : Salman was on friendly terms with the underworld.
This picture may well have been taken before 1993, for after 1993, no Indian in his right sense of mind would want to be pictured with dawood or his associates as it would put him under scanner.

Next, from HT:

Rewind to 1997 and a musical show in Dubai. Several Bollywood celebrities who'd been there were called in for questioning by the police. Why? According to intelligence reports, several actors gathered at a ranch on the outskirts of Sharjah, during a pleasure-cumshopping trip to the UAE. Dawood Ibrahim's right-hand man, Chhota Shakeel, played host.

And soon after the event, Abu Salem's hitmen gunned down music baron Gulshan Kumar. Investigators believed the assassination was hatched during the show, and that some actors might have known of the plot.

These should not be treated as isolated incidents. Salman is on friendly terms with D, salman attends one of D's hench mans party, salman stars in underworld sponsored film - all point to the act that salman may have been aware of Gulshan kumars murder and may be even Mumbai blasts. Sanjay dutt was involved in it too, but thanks to sunil dutt, he got away.

As for the tapes, Aishwarya did not deny that it was not her voice. IIRC she specifically told press that she wont deny that it is her voice. So there is a chance that the conversation did indeed take place. Btw, all this happened in 2001 and HT only got wind of it recently, the police didnt want to publicize the tapes.
May the Fries be with you!

So, arresting a person just because he had been talking to a gangster or seen in a party thrown by some gangster, is weird. If the police had so much info, why can't they just arrest the gangster instead of its 'friends'?

Betty ji, neither the police nor the gangsters are as stupid as we think they are. The gangsters operate from dubai and hongkong because they know they would be arrested if they set their foot in India. Indian police and intelligence agencies cannot do anything but keep tabs on them and one way of doing it is by keeping their hench men in India under survelliance.

The police is just showing off and trying to catch prominent and well-known people to show how efficient and busy they are. They neither have the power nor the inclination to tackle these problems head-on. All they can do are tap phones, keep people under surveillance. They cannot guarantee a single thing...so why blame filmstars for paying money, or for taht matter being friendly with gangsters? At least they are assured that their lives are not in danger....

Also, what is the use rounding up people for questioning? Even if Salman or anyone admits to being in touch with these dons....does that make him a gangster himself? Following that logic, all families of terrorists should be terrorist themselves...Also, even if these people come to know of any impending plan of those gangsters and tell them to the police - is there a guarantee that the source will be protected?

It is very easy to blame people for supporting what is 'wrong' and to put people in 'good' and 'bad' category. Reality is actually much more frightening than movies any day.
