I Agree Partly With Luci There........

But there's a Flip Side too......Whenever a n00b posts an inane thread,if at all any member Directs Him/Her to the Correct Place,He/she Either is told to Take up Knitting or Brandished a Cop



And Most of the n00bie threads have already been discussed Lotsa Times Before,But Since this is a 'New' n00bie and the Thread is a 'new' one,Replying to the Queries Made therein seems the sane thing to do rather than 'Show' him/her the Already Existing Thread.



And if you've Noticed,Almost all of us Regulars Point out the Fact that the therad in Question is actually an Already-Done-to-death one and Emphasie our Opinion with a Rolling-Eyes Emoticon



And I also Agree with What Rock Said,Not Everyone's Interests Lie in a Common Direction.HEnce the 'Aloofness' of Some Members from a Particular Kind of Topics.

The quality of discourse in any forum is a pretty good indicator of the IQ of the participants. Now that I have successfully ruffled a few feathers, let me expatiate on what I think is flawed with these boards and how to remedy them



1. It has already been discussed syndrome. Well 2000 years back it was already discussed and decided how human beings evolved and 200 years back it was discussed and decided what gravity is all about. When Darwin and Einstein pondered their respective subjects, no one said, it was already discussed. Maybe the newbies have something to say that the morons masquerading as Gods and Lords could not divine. I do not understand the compulsion on the part of the fogeys to silence the newbies with "it has already been discussed so stop this thread". It is OK to point a newbie to the existing thread, but if other newbies wanna post let them. If there are no takers, the thread will die a silent death. No one owns the boards, so, if you do not have something to add, do not discourage others from posting meaningful stuff.



2. Post count is a bitch. Ever since we started the concept of post count and started handing out titles to the idiots with high post counts, the quality has really gone down the drain. Unfortunately, there is no programmatic way to figure out the drivel that passes for posts on these boards. People post for the sake of posting. "I agree", "well said" kind of stuff. Of course there are the smarty pants who just post crap irrelevant to the discussion. Also, people feel compelled to let the world know about their tete-a-tete with another board member and abuse the discussion forums for carrying on one-to-one conversations reducing them to chat forums. This should be discouraged.



3. The absolute inanity of the several hundreds of the boards never ceases to amaze me. This probably is the IQ level of this group, but something tells me it may not be the case. There could be discussions on the current happenings, relevant social issues, requests for recommendations, action groups for issues etc. etc. But instead we have all those mind numbingly stupid boards. All the Gods/Lords should take an oath to only start posting meaningful stuff that could elevate the quality of the boards. Otherwise, these boards will be relegated to the dustbins of the history of web communities.

Blah's post being a generic post for deterioration of DBs....lets take a look at why I think FHDB is dying



1) Earlier when people spammed it was funny.......the "kya bole" and "eh kya"s had the right timing.....but now its more like a chat transcript that I read. People wishing goodbyes and hellos, people telling me that he's going to take a leak is not what I want to read .....not even as spam.

Too much of blah's blah blah to quote and refute, so I would just write whatever come to my mind.

1. This is a Hyderabad forum where people hang out, discuss serious social issues and at the same time indulge in friendly banter. There is no charter for this forum unlike forums dedicated for specific purposes like defence forums or education forums. If one-to-one banter doesnt interest you, stay away.

2. Old postors dont like n00b threads like "what is love" and other crap of which reams and reams has already been discussed. Is it so difficult for a n00b, no matter how bigger an idiot he or she is, to look around for old threads? I dont think expecting the noobs to get a feel for the forum before posting is asking too much from them.

3. If I am only interested in meaningful discussions and not banter, then I would go to another forum and not come here. The only reason I browse FHDB is because I like the casualness of the people and mods here. No one ever takes anything seriosuly and I like it that way. I cannot do that on other forums.

I dont know if you are kidding around this, but Daisy or anyone is not among the list of people who are doing any insane spamming. Even if anyones spams or replies the banter, they are well aware of their limits. There are couple of threads which there is rich spamming, but otherwise spamming isn;t really any hurdle for this DB.



I'm lil disappointed to see that potential threads lack replies, thats pbbly because ppl lack good knowledge so as to be sure enough to make their point, which is quite understandable.



Also, not everyone is trying to be creative/motivated enough to start a thread on their own. May be they ran out of ideas are lack interest. Atleast there are bunch of guys who are adding their opinions on the existing threads.



The main problem is there are not many participants in this DB in the first place. We need more marketting of this DB. Also, last but not the least, we need to have features such as search & chat to be improved.
