Friday Flowers: ... Simple! ... Special!! ... Super!!!

Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?

Scholar: I am one of Allah's (SWT) slaves and inshallah, I will be able to answer your questions.

Young man : Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able to answer my questions.

Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of Allah (SWT).

Young Man: I have 3 questions:

1. Does God exist? If so, show me his shape.

2. What is Taqdeer (fate)?

3. If the Shaitan (Devil) was created from fire, why in the end will he be thrown into Jahannum (Hell), that is also created from fire? It certainly will not hurt him at all, since the Shaitan and Jahannum are both created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?

Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man in the face very hard.

Young Man: (Feeling pain) Why are you getting angry at me?

Scholar: I am not angry at you. The slap is my answer to your three questions.

Young Man: How can that be? I really don't understand!

Scholar: How does it feel now that I've slapped you?

Young Man: Of course, I feel pain.

Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?

Young Man: Yes.

Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain then?

Young Man: I cannot.

Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's existence without being able to see His shape. Last night, did you dream that you will be slapped by me?

Young Man: No.

Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me, today?

Young Man: No.

Scholar: That is Taqdeer. My hand that I used to slap you, what is it created from?

Young Man: It is created from skin.

Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?

Young Man: Skin.

Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?

Young Man: In pain, of course.

Scholar: Even though the Shaitan and Jahannum were created from the fire, if Allah (SWT) wants, inshallah, the hell will become a very painful place for the Shaitan.

Rain Brings Cheer To Power Supply Officials

HYDERABAD: Light to moderate rain in the State following coverage of the entire State by the South-West monsoon have brought cheer to the power supply managers.

With the day temperatures coming down and many places receiving rain, leading to a corresponding fall in demand in the agriculture and domestic sectors, supply became easy even though 1,430 MW of installed capacity was out of service.

There was no power cut for the day on any category of consumers and anywhere in the State, Andhra Pradesh Transco officials said here.

Out of the 1,430 MW lost, 350 MW was from the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station, 100 MW from central generation stations, 500 MW from Simhadri project, 380 MW from gas stations and 100 MW from independent power plants. APTransco ensured supply without resorting to power cut using only 5,100 MW out of the State's installed capacity of 11,106 MW.

Summer Night Storm

Summer Night Storm

The ranting of the gods, this tumbling sky,
this wind-strong rain which pelts against my cheek,
the world re-lit by lightning, and the lie
of tall sea grass low bent against the sand.
I stand here, strangely still, with all the world
tumultuous at my feet, and yet my heart
is stronger than the roaring wind that swirls
about my body, taut against its force;
that blows my eyelids shut, that locks my lips,
lest all my spirit end its restlessness
in one wild song.

Life On Other Planets

by HH » Thu Jun 30, 2005 12:14 pm

Life On Other Planets

LAST WEEK, astronomers announced that they had made a giant breakthrough by finding something small. They turned up a planet that happens to be the most diminutive ever discovered beyond our own solar system, at least around a common type of star. The object is roughly twice the Earth's girth which, as planets go, is decidedly petite.

Although this runty world is, in the grand matrix of the cosmos, probably nothing special, it is possible that it heralds wonderful things. This remote rock could be akin to the flotsam and jetsam Columbus saw just before the New World hove into view. It might be the harbinger of a major discovery.
What do we know about this fresh find? First off, it belongs to a red dwarf star with the pedestrian name Gliese 876, a sun that is only about one third as hefty as our own. The planet speeds around this pint-size star every two days in an orbit that is barely larger than a loose-fitting belt — only one tenth the size of Mercury's path around the Sun. Despite the fact that red dwarfs are relatively cool, the small orbit means that temperatures on this world are extra toasty: several hundred degrees. In other words, this planet is unlikely to have any inhabitants; it is just too hot.

Okay, then why get excited by the rooting up of a small world around a small star? The reason derives from our changing view of these bantam suns, and their suitability for hosting planets where life could arise.

...
Red dwarfs are no longer regarded as hopeless cosmic desert.

This is revolutionary because red dwarfs are the most plentiful stars in the universe. For every Sun-like star, there are eight red dwarfs. If red dwarfs commonly have planets — a possibility given impetus by the discovery of the world around Gliese 876 — and if some of these worlds orbit at slightly greater, and therefore cooler, distances from their home star, then habitable worlds could be as abundant as summer mosquitoes. Most of the life in the universe could bask in the ruddy light of red dwarfs. ...
No, we have not found evidence for such civilisations yet, but if we do, it is conceivable that they developed on a world of which the rock found around Gliese 876 is merely a first example. That overheated planet might be the first signpost of myriad worlds where life could, and possibly does, flourish.

Follow Basavanna’s Ideals : Seer (Wednesday June 22 2005)

DAVANAGERE: Time has come to continue the good works done by the Basava and other Shivasharanas practices in 12th century even for today for creating a better society, said Pandithradhya Shivacharya Swamiji of Sanehalli Mutt at Gopnal village in Davanagere taluk on Sunday.

Speaking after taking part in Lingadiksha to 56 people, the seer said the works of 12th century by Basavanna are relevant today as giving up anger, jelousy, hatredness and intolerance is necessary to lead a happy life.

Parents have to imbibe good qualities to their children, inculcate character to work hard, he said. Those youth who took Lingadiksha should not harm others, they should work like guides to others in society, said MLA S A Ravindranath who was the chief guest. Shivasainya organisation chief Mudegowrda Parameshwarappa, former MP K R Jayadevappa were present.

BE HAPPY ... All Is Not Lost!

BE HAPPY ... All Is Not Lost!

A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. "Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more moves?" "This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to know," the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.

Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals. This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened.

"No," the sensei insisted, "Let him continue." Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament.

He was the champion. On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind. "Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?" "You won for two reasons," the sensei answered. "First, you've almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm." The boy's biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.

"Sometimes we feel that we have certain weaknesses and we blame god, the circumstances and our self for it but we never know that our weakness can become our strength one day. Each of us is special and important, so never think you have any weakness, never think of pride or pain, just live your life to its fullest and extract the best out of it!"

Wake Up, India. We're One Big Happy Family

Wake Up, India. We're One Big Happy Family ... Of Families Who Have Married From All Castes And Cultures

"It has worked out wonderfully," says Monica Dayakar, a Punjabi married to a Tamil Iyengar, whose daughter has wedded a Bengali and son engaged to a girl who has a Goan father and Dutch mother. "We have broken the identity barrier and don't identify ourselves with such and such State anymore." For the Dayakars, as with theatre/ television personality C.R. Simha's family (a Kannadiga family where the son married a Sikh and the daughter a Kodava), it has been a huge learning experience.

These families have begun to celebrate all Indian festivals — in the first case Durga Pooja and Christmas, and in the second case, Baisakhi and Guru Nanak Jayanti. Being foodies to boot, both families are thrilled with the change in the daily menu, now peppered with newer cultures and cuisines. ...

A Smashing Success

A Smashing Success
10 June, Prakash Padukone turned 50 ... a few close friends, some badminton buddies and the family spent a quiet evening in the community hall of the apartment complex in Benson Town, Bangalore, where the former badminton World No.1 lives. It was typical of the man that he opted for a quiet celebration rather than mark the occasion with a lavish party in some five-star hotel.

... when I asked the ‘‘old man’’ how he felt on having reached 50. ‘‘Oh, it’s just another day,’’ he said. ‘‘I don’t feel anything special unless somebody reminds me of it. Still the same life and routine.’’

Padukone belongs to that rare breed of champions on whom fame and fortune rest easy, although he is still uncomfortable facing the cameras.

Why Be Happy Tomorrow When you Could Be Happy Today?

by HH » Tue Jul 26, 2005 4:59 pm

Image

Smile:

If you chose this Angel today be prepared for a fun filled day. When you smile you get happy, joy, and peace right back at you. Smile, your Angel says, "don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow might just be about the worst invention ever. Right now, put on a happy face because it's a happy day to you."

Why Be Happy Tomorrow When you Could Be Happy Today?

* Living in the “Now” is more than just a new-age voodoo ritual or something a guy named Buddha dreamed up 2,500 years ago; it is a fantastic way to live. Being out of the moment is when your mind is somewhere your body is not.
# Some of us get stuck on the “Good Old Days Syndrome,” where everything in the past was so much better. Gas was cheaper, people were more honest and the government wasn’t so corrupt. Times change, so suck it up and deal with it. All you have is this moment-right now.
# Then there are those of us who seem to live exclusively in the future. We postpone our pleasures and happiness, hoping for a better tomorrow. But why leave your fun to some day in the future? Someday is not a day of the week. Will everything be OK when you finally buy a house? Then will you be happy? ...
* So you can’t change the past and you can’t predict the future. All you have is right now. To be here now gives you all kinds of benefits. Staying present helps you to enjoy and focus on the task at hand. Being in the moment will increase your work efforts, your capacity to communicate and, best of all, your ability to embrace life and love it.
# The more you can become aware of your now moments, the more fun you can have.

"Hero" John Abraham

by HH » Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:53 pm

"Hero" John Abraham

So the dude in jeans and T-shirt who loves gliding through the streets of Bandra on his Kawasaki Ninja superbike is on his way to stardom. And not just that. With his broad shoulders, washboard stomach, burly biceps and boyish charm, John Abraham is the newest youth icon on the block.

With no godfathers to smooth the Bollywood gangway, John’s story is quite unlike those of many of the contemporary star sons and nephews. The son of a middle class Malayali architect and a Parsi mother, John acquired a management degree, worked for a while with the ad agency Enterprise Nexus as a media planner before coming to public notice as the winner of the Gladrags Manhunt six years ago. He hasn’t looked back since.

John is not very different in real life-equal parts coolness and humility. He does not drink and is a vegetarian by choice. A regular everyday guy — except, of course, for the fact that Bipasha Basu is his girlfriend. In fact he takes us to Bipasha’s house in Bandra for the interview. While she is nowhere to be seen, her pet chihuahua Poshto is there for company. John’s wearing — what else — a white T-shirt over blue Wranglers and a three-day stubble.

Here’s John Abraham in his own words, and in the opinion of his co-stars and girlfriend. ...

— The Future —

John: I don’t see myself as Number One, yet I feel that in terms of style in terms of attitude and acting style I have created a niche for myself. I think I will have my own my little path and my own little fan base which, if it increases, will make me happier.

Bipasha: He’s a tremendous actor. I’d give him 9 on 10 for acting skills currently, though he will soon be a 10. ...
