Hyd-Chennai-Bang-Hyd:impressions

Hi all, I'm new to this site. It looks cool.

I'm originally from coastal andhra (Yes, near the much envied Vijayawada).

I worked in Hyd for 2.5 yrs then moved to chennai. I worked in chennai for 2.5 yrs and am currently staying in Bangalore for the last 2 yrs. Thinking of moving back to Hyderabad.

I want to share my impressions about these cities. Some times I may compare. Since none of these cities is my proper place, my comparisions should be relatively objective.

First I moved to Hyd from Vijayawada.

1. Hyderabad:Weather was good vis a vis Vij. But people sounded rude.Enter a shop, the sales fellow tosses his eye brows and asks "avu boss. Kya hona?" Traffic was pretty indisciplined compared to Vij. But people do not use abusive language as used by Vij'ites.

comparisison with other two cities(among Hyd/B'lore and Chennai):I'll rank Good, OK, Bad.

Hyd:

Infrastructure(Roads/Electricity) : Good. The free-power may make the electricity bad.I see it improve in future. After all ,YSR is also reasonable guy. Once he dilutes free-power considerably, supresses the extremists and take on TRS(Naxals will do it on his behalf), everything may improve. Lots of proposals like, exclusive power station for hyd, ring road, town ships and Intl airport. But I'm not upbeat on his irrigation projects. After all it's congress man. Expect lots of corruption, disorder, court rap-ups and roll backs in the next 4 yrs in all congi works.

Weather :OK

People: OK. But over-ambitious and not principled. Latter some HR guy in B'lore told, he suspects the resume from Hyd. Most of them are fake.

Water:OK.

Risks of running Business: High. Think abt naxals, Telangana, communal flare-ups etc.,Free power(Of couse the populist politicians, Naidu may offer free power or something similar in next elections).

Traffic:OK.

Health Facilities: OK

Attitude of the people: OK

Cost of living: Lowest

Then I moved to chennai.

The inspector in chennai station collected some bribe for over-luggage of 2 kgs. The auto fellows out side the central just robbed. I found some language chauvisnists also.

Weather was very bad. Language problem. Most parochial crowd I've ever seen. Somebody joked it's a "metro village". Water problem!

comparisison with other two cities(among Hyd/B'lore and Chennai):

Chennai:

Infrastructure(Roads/Electricity) : Good. Though busses were not good they were frequent. There were local trains also.

Weather :Bad

People: Bad

Water:Bad.

Risks of running Business: Low. of the three cities, Crime is the least in Chennai. People are not violent.During my stay, Jaya was made to step down temporarily by court. Not a single incident in TN. In AP buses would have burnt.

Traffic:OK.

Health Facilities: Good

Attitude of the people: Bad.

Cost of living: Medium. You have to pay 10/12 months advance for rent. But the monthly rent is less compared Bangalore.(More compared to Hyd.)

Now comes bangalore. I like the weather. People attitude is good. Hip culture. They are soft generally. They don't care much abt your where abouts.Traffic is choatic and roads are narrow. No politician is taking care of the city right now.

comparisison with other two cities(among Hyd/B'lore and Chennai):

Bangalore:

Infrastructure(Roads/Electricity) : Bad. Except water. they have plent of rain fall and cauvery water.

Weather :Good. All day shopping weather.

People: Good. It scores on the beauty front , hands down

Water:Good.

Risks of running Business: Medium. Naxals opened their shops here too some where nearby. Roads are getting cluttered. You can feel the difference monthly. Crime's going up. Salaries are getting high

Traffic:Bad.

Health Facilities: Bad

Attitude of the people: Good.

Cost of living: High.

Thinking abt future, though Hyd has more risks, it has the best scope for development also. That's why I'm thinking to shift back to Hyd. Ofcourse I've some other personal reasons also

good analysis! :)

having seen life in all 3 cities mentioned above, i wud agree with your view that hydabd has the best scope for development, but would have to go about it in a planned way...else we wud end up with a break down of infrastructure like bangalore is facing now.

we cannot do anything about the weather, except plant trees. but things like the new roads, MMTS/Monorail, new airport etc wud definitely help in pushing the profile of the city.

the main complaint of ppl in hydbad who have also lived in bangalore/mumbai is about the lack of nightlife! but i sense that is soon to improve coz the CM is already considering improving it. tho the govt stmt piously talks extending restaurant timings keeping needs of BPOs in mind, its clear what wud happen...:)

Good one!!

Really good post. Some of your views were very correct.

The voilence of the people that you were talking about is

because of the political parties cadre. The cadre is paid money

to do such ghastly tasks like burning buses and damaging public

property.

This is a thread where Sri should like to post . Just tailor made for him to defend Chennai.

Anyway, I have never been to Bangalore. Somehow that city has always eluded me. I lived in Kalpakkam for two months (I was interning at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research - a truly awesome facility I must say), and had travelled to Chennai frequently during the time. And the only conclusion I drew of the city is that it sucks. It sucks big time.

No one wants to speak to you in anything but Tamil. The auto wallahs are ready to fleece you at the drop of a hat. The public transport, while cheap, is completely untravellable by the standards that we take for granted in APSRTC buses. The weather is horrible. Water is scarce.

I won't say that Hyderabad is the best place to live in the whole world. because there have been a lot of places that I have not been to. But, it does come damn close.

nice post

very objective analysis

i have been to mumbai, delhi, chennai, b'lore, pune, hyderabad and chandigarh in the past one year

mumbai is a nice place. it has the best night life (better than b'lore where nightlife is synonymus with pubs). it never comes to a stop, unlike some other places that shut down whenever there is some minor extremist incident or some kind of political unrest. the roads are choked and the MUTP/MUIP projects go on at a snails pace. but navi mumbai is a very nice place. wide roads no traffic/water problems. its a good place to live except that its just not mumbai.

delhi has lots of traffic/crime problems and is very crowded. but the city will grow at a faster pace than any other city in the country. huge infrastructure projects are underway and are to be completd before the games begin. so the infrastructure will improve significantly in a short time.

chennai is a nice place for tams. there is no way someone can convince me to stay there

if u are not looking for a great nightlife pune is a very good option. its a small city, very similar to hyd in its looks. the power cuts(in some areas upto 6hrs a day) might continue for 2 more years and the sun sure shows no mercy on the city.

chandigarh is prolly the best city in terms of looks and luxury life. it has the highest density of cars in the country and all the roads are at perfect right angles. no traffic problems, low crime rate and pretty close to delhi.

b'lore looks good too with all the gardens and parks. i do not subscribe to the views expressed about the water in the city. the tap water in NGV has a yellow tinge to it and in the past 2 months there have been numerous jaundice cases in the city. if an area like koramangala has problems like this i cant hope for much better in the other areas. it also has the worst traffic problems and noone seems to be interested to solve them. one good thing abt this place is that there is a CCD every 200 mts :)

hyderabad is definitely the most improved city. it still has a long way to go if it wants to compete with bombay/delhi . nightlife is non-existent. the city still faces water/transportation problems. this is mostly due to over-dependance on RTC and that being a govt. corp adds to the problems. the cost of living is probably lower than pune and ppl are left with lots of money to spend. if the transportation problems can be sorted out this definitely is the best place to live :D

Vijayawada and much envied ? for what? no offence ..but i dont have a very high regard for the place/people... i know a sweeping generalisation isnt the most prudent of things but everyone from this place that I have met comes across as bloody casteist ..who have nothing to discuss other than the business of the latest telugu blocbuster....apparently the engineering and medical colleges there are harbouring grounds for casteism..

Very informative!

I am amused by the news that Deccan is planning on introducing "software shuttle" - flight connecting B'lore, Hyd & Chennai which should be very affordable (take over road/railways) and be available on hourly basis from 6am till 7pm.
