Happy ... Life!
Thiruvalluvar's Tips for Happy Life
CHENNAI JAN. 7. The progress in a person's endeavour and the ultimate success that he reaps are dependent on the moral strength he develops. Whether in his efforts as an individual or while in his family life or the manner in which he has planned to achieve distinction, all revolve around his moral force and mental attitude. The joy that anyone derives in all spheres comes from virtuous conduct. Righteousness alone will help one to walk erect without faltering. Then he will experience contentment. How to ensure that he remains free from bad tendencies? "Keep the mind free without giving room for evil thoughts. This is the whole of Dharma. The key to purity of action is thoughts free from ill will and hatred. True religious life depends on the avoidance of envy, craving for pleasure, anger and harsh speech", says Saint Thiruvalluvar.
Character in an individual's life depends to a great extent on the food he takes. Regulated diet, in a limited measure and in time will keep off diseases. Secondly, wherever and whenever possible, he should engage himself in doing service and for this the life of Thirunavukkarasar serves as an example. More important aspect of a righteous life is the control he should exercise on his Senses. The next valuable quality he should develop is forbearance. The heart of a pious man will melt on seeing another person suffer and grieve. The examples of Sibhi, who enabled a dove to fly free after offering flesh sliced from his body equal to its weight and of Pegan, who covered a peacock shivering in cold with his shawl, will make us go out of the way to help those in distress.
While in his family life, a man who desires to be appreciated by others, will draw his strength through good friends (who will give him only sincere advice), relatives who will stand by him in his trials and seasoned elders who will not hesitate to tell the Truth, said Sri Ma. Ki. Ramanan in a lecture. To honour men of greatness and secure their friendship is again a rare quality. Sakuni and Manthara, the hunchback maid, are characters who should remind a person of those to be shunned. Thiruvalluvar has also given suggestions for a man's success in his private life, in his family and in his business dealings. He should choose the opportune time and proper place to transact his dealings. The flourishing life of one who does not spend within his income, who misjudges his own strength and is too ambitious and hasty, will come to an end soon and he will burn his fingers.

The Gate of Happiness : Paradise, Heaven, Aquarius, El Dorado, the Garden of Eden, the Garden of Allah, Utopia, Vaikunth, the Fields of Osiris, and the Golden Age are names by which a world of peace, purity, and prosperity has been remembered. In such a place, each human being is like a flower, a country like a bouquet of flowers, and the world like a garden of flowers. The sun, the sustainer, shines upon the garden with golden rays, flooding it with newness and nobility. The Gate of Happiness stands open, welcoming the human family to the Golden Garden. In the past, the world was such a garden. It will become that again. Simply to have that faith is cause for celebration.
Through the power of truth there is wealth, and through the power of peace there is health. Together they give happiness. Happiness is earned by those whose actions, attitude, and attributes are pure and selfless.

Is there reason to smile? `Yes,' ... because it's time to celebrate hope, the human spirit and the fact that life must go on
The End, The Beginning
* "The end has ended. Every end... is a beginning. " - Random Confuscian quote concocted to get started.
It's that simple.
The night ends. The day begins.
Celebrating Hope
* So why smile?
Because, big-hearted, whole-hearted effort in the wake of tragedy is reason enough to celebrate. To celebrate hope. To celebrate the human spirit. To celebrate the fact that life ... must go on.

Happy Wednesday! : Boss-a-Nova ...
*
IT WAS A hot summer's day, (though in Chennai, everyday is hot and it's always summer) and I toddled up to an amusement park. There they had an African-Experience tent, outside which there was this long serpentine queue of young folks, waiting patiently to get in. I got rather curious and walked up to one of them and asked them what was so interesting inside. `Dontcha know? They teach the Basic Principles of Voodoo, in 30 minutes'. I was shell-shocked! Voodoo? In this day and age? But why, I asked. The guy looked at me strangely and asked me a very fundamental question. `Do you work?' `No, never tried.' I replied. `Aha! No wonder! If you did and your boss was anything like mine, you'd join the queue too!'.
**
I see there ... Hoary Honcho , the author of the famous book[ i]`Bosses for Dummies'[/i] or is it the other way around I'm never sure. Anyway, who better to explain this to me?
***
I went up to him and asked `HH, tell me, are bosses really bad people?' And HH said, `Well, you are asking me a very difficult question. For `Bosses' are supernatural phenomena. ... To give you an outline, let's look at the three classes in the genus `Bossis Culpabilis' - the first is the `Born-as-Boss' , the second is the `Customised-in-a-Cauldron- Boss' and finally, we have the `Don't-Thrust-Them-Boss'. ...

Healthy Humour
Dr. N. RAMKRISHNAN tells you how you can laugh your way to good health.
*
WHEN was the last time you laughed really hard — a hearty, side splitting belly laugh that suddenly grabbed you and sent you reeling out of control?
Modern science is beginning to confirm that this kind of laughter is not only enjoyable but also health promoting. Laughter is an invigorating tonic that heightens and brightens the mood, gently releasing us from tensions and social constraints.
# Best Antidote
Laughter is an affirmation of our humaneness, a face saving way to express our anxieties, fears and other hidden emotions to others. It breaks the ice, builds trust and draws us together into a common state of well-being.
Humour may be one of our best antidotes to stressful situations. ...

Aye, Aye Need Help! : Rare Mauritius Pink Pigeon
A zoo is a window to the sheer wonder and delight of the natural world. ...
In the Madagascar there are more than 60 threatened species that require immediate attention. The species include the Aye-Aye, the only representative of a highly social primate family of the Alaotran gentle lemur, the Rodrigues fruit bat, the Round Island Boa from Madagascar, the Pink Pigeon from Mauritius, the Mallorcan Midwife toad, and the Malagasy flat-tailed tortoise from Madagascar.
The zoo at Jersey Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in the United Kingdom has been doing pioneering work to save these species. The zoo houses most of these animals in natural enclosures. The staff at the zoo ensure that the animals are fed the right diet and the food is cooked in a clean environment. The Aye-Aye's natural diet includes flower nectar, fruits, coconuts, plant galls, adult insects and small vertebrates.
In captivity, the Aye-Aye are selective. Varying the food as much as possible is important, since the Aye-Aye dislike eating a certain item that is presented too often. ...

Use ... Don't Misuse ... NEVER ABUSE ... Resources!
• Be conscious of your water usage. The following water usage statistics may surprise you:
Bath - 95 litres
Dishwasher - 53 litres per load
Flushing the toilet - 19 litres per flush
Lawn watering - 38 litres per minute
Leaky faucet - 57 litres per day
Shower - 38 litres per minute
Washing machine - 151 litres per load
• Take baths instead of showers. Run the dishwasher or washing machine with full loads only. Alternatively, fill the sink and wash by hand. Use reservoirs to collect rainwater for lawn and garden watering use. Fix all leaky faucets immediately. Also, consider buying resource-efficient showerheads and appliances. These devices can reduce water consumption by as much as 80%. Your water bills will decrease significantly and you will be contributing to the preservation of a potentially scarce resource.
• Avoid excessive packaging. Most convenience foods use excessive packaging. In addition, the contents are rarely beneficial to your health. When possible, avoid buying these products, or buy larger quantities or bulk.
