Depends on how interested and eager you are in learning new things, and how you pass your free time

I started installing Gentoo long ago on a trashed computer at my Chicago office, then got impatient.. I mean who wants to wait 20 hours for KDE to compile? You might as well apt-get it in a few minutes if you're using Debian. (fl may have a different opinion on this though)
i do have a different opinion about this
firstly i think most people are scared of installing Gentoo because they are afraid that after spending 20 hrs on it, it might show some error and stop
most people misconstrue the concept behind the distro
it is not really a "geeks only" distro
infact i believe that is the easist distro to manage once installed
all u need to know is how to emerge
most ppl think that installation takes 2 days and their system is useless when this is going on
I installed my gentoo by chrooting from my fedora installation
so when my KDE was being compiled i was watching movies and listening to music and playing UT
so the time factor should not be a deterrent against installing gentoo
but many people ask why gentoo
fedora has all the same things
and takes much less time to install
but i think the total time to get everything working on a gentoo system is actually less that that on a fedora system
all you have to do is spend two days installing and configuring stuff
and once u have all your cron jobs set u dont have to worry about updating ever again
and everything you install actually works
i hear that in the latest version of fedora there is no mp3 support
and that you have to install some packages to get that working
i never saw xine working on it
and to get all these working and to remove all the useless stuff it takes a lot of time
on gentoo u only have what u emerge
nothin more nothin less
this reduces the bootup time
i dont wanna get into why compile when u have rpms argument
it will take too long to explain that
I'm not in favour of Senseless Windows Bashing.
However,I'm all for Bashing Windows Senseless.
