underperformers have to be chucked out...whether its sachin or laxman or balaji.

if Chappel is able to bring this kinda australian mentality in BCCI and the team (forget the immature public for now), he deserves a Bharat Ratna.

AFAIK sachin is nething BUT an underperformer. Theres nothing wrong in cracking the whip on the players who make it to the teams only because of the Quota System. But in the last few years such cases have been very few. Greg Chapples job has been made easy by John Wright. The BCCI...the selection commettee and the concerned ppl. are very diff. from what they were when Wright was appointed. Its fair to say that they more concerned with the Teams performance than meeting the regional quotas.

The team needs the senior players as they can guide the younger ones thru...having said that the underperformers will have to stay out.

I agree with that.

But u cant always judge a players worth to the team against his immediate performance. Every player goes thru bad patches, but that doesnt mean he shd. b dropped just like that. Imagine the kind of pressure a youngster wld. face if he comes into the team knowing that he wld. b dropped if did not play well in 4-5 matches.

My point is the trial period shd. b slightly longer than 1-2 series.

Australians have been brave enuf to drop the senior players...but most of the times it was when they were nearing retierement.

whenever the question of underperformers comes immediately the words "bad patch come into the frame....heck, how much patch is a patch is the question...can the patch be 1 series or year or 2 years...Australians hav got a very good definition of this patch i guess...so they even pullup players like matt hayden...when we are talking abt dropping or including any cricketer, i think there shud be other criteria too...for starters just make a question as to how many internatopnal teams the cricketer in discussion would get into based on his current form (not on past records)....may be now there might be another question how much current is current:)
