Don't Drink ? Pay!

by Bimbette » Fri May 13, 2005 11:57 am

I'm a teetotaller. Went with a bunch of my girlfriends to a Lounge cum Pub on a 'Ladies Night'.

All the ladies are entitled to 2 coupons that you can redeem against champagne and unlimited cocktails.

I opted for a plain fruit punch (which I usually do) and the weird part was I had to pay for it!

The point is, is it justified to charge a customer when she's not opting for a 'hard drink' ? Secondly, does this happen across all lounges/pubs ?
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right.

That I figured in the end but I kinda found the whole policy a little strange.

Well I agree with CAD that it wasn't part of the scheme but don't you just hate it when they don't tell you all the details in the fine print. Anyway...when you ordered the mocktail...didn't they tell you that you would have to pay for it? I would have just ordered one of the drinks for my friends (if I didn't drink it myself

ma'am, pubs are there to promote alchohol...not soft drinks :) even if u notice the drinks menu, mocktails are reluctantly presented right at the end. u cant really hold it against them for not encouraging teetotlers :D

bottom line: they dont make money from teetotlers.

I didn't ask them if they would charge me when I ordered for the fruit punch ! Of course, a friend had mentioned that they might but I didn't take her seriously! Anyways, lesson learnt! :)

Oh and btw, I did use my 2 coupons and ordered for my friend who happily guzzled down the champagne!

Hey San!

Madam, where am I complaining about stuff that I got free????? I'm complaining bcoz it wasn't free for me!! :)

Haan, come along with me and you'll be bored to death. After that one outing I've kinda decided that I'll give it a break! It does get boring when all u have to do is munch on some snacks and listen/dance to music thats not in keeping with your taste. The only saving grace is that you are with a bunch of friends.

Good on ya :) I've not been to a pub in Hyd. Have seen lots of pics & articles in DC tho. What is the atmosphere like for ladies?

Oh boy, such a familiar feeling. I really dont get what the whole deal is all about. Why people feel they have fun only if they are certain places! My friends love TDS ... and altho I do go with them when ever I can ...I certainly enjoy their company but never the place, music or the crowd.
My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?

Have been to only 10D and Touch in Hyd. One of my female friends is a major 10D fan, so I've been there a lil more often. Touch is the most classy lounge in Hyd with the Tollywood brigade partying there often.

When u say 'atmosphere' do u mean whether ladies can be comfy ? Judging by the ppl around, I've noticed lots of girls letting their hair down (pun unintended) at pubs. So far, I've not been witness to any unpleasant scenes happen at either of the two places.

PS The no. of ladies at these places is quite high considering a 'pub' hardly figured in a woman's vocabulary till a few years ago.

I do find pubs that play music VERY LOUD off-putting. Many a times I've stared blankly at the person talking cause I couldn't hear a word, no matter how loud they were trying to be. Having tried the 'could you please repeat' several times and yet not catching a single word, I resorted to nodding, smiling as if I was with the conversation. Works until the person stares back blankly wondering why I found the death of his favourite pet so amusing.

hey Bimbette, even the spirits too were not free - you paid for them at the entrance - r'member??

yeah, there is one way ladies can get a free drink at pubs/ discos - this is more true for bigger metros where any lady who is willing to shake a leg on the bar counter will get a free tequila shot !(remember the remix video 'mere naseeb mein' and the film 'coyote ugly' with the fab song 'can't find the moonlight')

jusmebbe, one needs to check first if they can replace the tequila with 'sprite' shot - i'm sure they'd only be too happy !

ladies, ladies..……..!! pls do not get into ‘why females’ & all the associated rock n roll – take all this in good fun...

Vishrasayan, we did not pay at the entrance! :!: Maybe you misunderstood, but on a 'Ladies Night' there is no cover charge for ladies.

Really?!!............

Free entry and free booze!! just what on earth these people are tryin to do? unless it is a promotional campaign to get more & more ladies introduced to the spirits....

going by the sheer number of women at pubs these days ... I’d call it a promotion carried a bit too far.............from profitability

am I jealous?............you bet!!
