Depends on what your Chosen Career Path is.

If you wanna become a HotShot Programmer and Nurture an inherent Zeal for the latest languages and Softwares And also have a craving for working for a Top Notch MNC or Indian IT Company, then you should Opt for CSE or IT.

But if you are of the type which Hate Coding,Aren't comfortable with Programming or are averse to Spending half your time in front of the Biege Box AND have a Nice Hold of physics,Dynamics,Fluid Motion and th type, then you can Opt for Mechanical.

Though Civil & Chemical Engg. are touted to be Evergreen Branches, they're on their way Down.Altough Someone (Gartner??) Predicted that Civil Engineers will be in Great Demand after a few years.

Electronics is yet another Branch which is Definitely the 'in' thing and it has its various offshoots like Instrumentation,Communication,Electricals etc.Opt for these if you are Comfy with Electrical Concepts,Semiconductors etc.

And Nowadays, one sees BioTechnology as a Fast Moving Industry. If you desire the challenges or are keen to tread an Unchartered territory, then you could gun for this.

Whatever You Choose,Remember that the Final Destination Point in Life is Very Rarely Affected by this Four Years' Study. What it can Do is that Make you Well-Versed in a Field of your interest and later on you can develop Multi-Skills.For Ex.There are Many Mechanical Engineers who work in Satyam's Java Dev Center. So Look at the Choices as a Means to an End and not an End in itself.

dont opt for IT unless u r really interested AND have an aptitude for programming. do not join IT just coz yr neighbor or cousin is a successful IT professional.

A common misconception here is that Civil Engineers are only supposed to do construction work. That is more for the architects and the masons to do. A civil engineer is called in only when the building plan has to be approved. He/she basically checks for safety, environment-friendliness, etc.

A major chunk of the work that civil engineers do is town planning. They decide how and where the sewerage lines get laid, the roads that are to be built, the railway lines, the traffic and street lights, and other stuff that we don't even think about.
Nothing travels faster than light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.

since the syllabus is vast, i am sure u cover lots of interesting stuff in thsi too...

the employer's needs depends on what job he is recruiting for. maybe u shud try only in telecom companies (reliance, BSNL, VSNL, hutch, Bharti etc etc). i really dunno...i am hearing abt BTech Telecom for the first time.

I have heard of Two Kinda Branches:

Electronics & Communication Engineering (Mine)

Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (My Brudda's)

In ECE,towards the Final Semesters, the Emphasis is more on Radar Communication,Optical Fiber Networks,Network Protocols,Antenna & Wave Propagation Blah Blah Blah.....

In ETC,the emphasis is on GSM,CDMA,EDGE,Enhanced Data Commn,Packet Transm'n,DSP,Blah Blah Blah

This is In Our Part of the World,Dunno What JNTU's Syllabi is all abt.

IMO,ETC Guys have a better Opportunities regarding Getting Jobs in the Telecom Domain.Co's Like Bharti,Orange,Escotel Do Prefer ETC Guys Whereas Ericsson,Verizon,Tata etc Prefer ECE Guys. But All in all ,what matters is the Grasp on the Subject and the Expertise in the Said Domain. It all Boils down to the Day When u take the test for Recruitment.

If they Ask C n C++ for ECE/ETC Engineers then U gotta Know itin order to Clear the test. And Most Recruoitment tests are Aptitude-Based.

Dunno how it will be Four Years Down the Line But You need to be Sharp in that area.

But If you've got Campus Placements, then U got a Better Chances with the Domain-Specific Players.

My best Wishes For You.

Man,You are one Lucky Chap!!VIT is a Damn Good Institute. Its Placements also are good.If you maintain a Good CGPA,then you can easily get a Job of your Choice.

Infy & CTS want Consistent academic Performance (Thatz the Reason I Could never Aspire to be there   )So Be Consistent and Do keep tabs on the current trends.Infy tests mostly have puzzles so it helps to be good in them.

But all that should be thought of after 4 years.Right now u Concentrate on Doing well in all your Semesters. All da Best Once Again.

BTW,U a Pondicherrian?

CGPA is Cumulative Grade Point Average.

Its Similar To Percentage but on a 10-Point Scale.

Say if you get 76% it would be 7.6 CGPA.

no address. head to charminar. at the cafe in the entrance of Lad Bazaar, try to spot a long haired, bearded beggar without legs and a big scar on his face. approach him, slip him 100 bucks and say "God ki dua hai". now go stand next to the small temple attached to Charminar.

within five minutes, a teenaged girl with a basket of flowers would approach you with a smile. tear your eyes off her chest, look at her face, smile and repeat "God ki dua hai".

When she sets her basket on the road, slip a paper with the following details written on it: name of the institute u want certificate from, name of the course, year of passing u need, and your name that has to appear on the certificate. she'll leave at once.

in another 10 minutes a samosa seller on a bicycle would come and quote a price. if u agree, go and get the money in an envelope and be back in the same place in exactly 2 hours. an old lady beggar would approach u with a bowl. if she winks at u and blows a kiss, slip the envelop into her bowl.

return next day at 6pm and collect your certificate.

simple!
