yah.. am back!

btw, the testing was bcos i wasn't able to access the last post. plus it doubled up as a 'bump' :D

ok.. looks like most of you got most of the answers if not all. Hopefully none of you googled. Though that's no compulsion, i think there is also a certain fun in researching for the answers too. Must remind myself to shift the difficulty level to a higher gear.

So here are the answers.

Q1) One of my personal fav qs. After a period of serious trouble following the death of the founder’s son, this famous company was bought in 1990 by Bernard Tapie, for $320 million, which Tapie borrowed. In 1992, Tapie was unable to pay interest of his loan. He asked the Crédit Lyonnais bank to sell the company, and the bank bought it for itself, which is normally forbidden under French law. In February 1993, Crédit Lyonnais sold the company to Robert Louis-Dreyfus, a friend of Bernard Tapie. In 2004, A Vertical Football Hoarding in Japan which won a Gold at Cannes. TBWA

Tokyo painted a billboard like a football ground and mounted it on a high rise building. They then secured two men on top of the billboard with ropes and suspended them. They also suspended a football in the same manner. To the people from down below, it looked as though these 2 men are playing football in the sky!! Name the company and if possible the campaign too...

Adidas. Most of you got this one right. This idea was in line with Adidas’ ‘Impossible is Nothing’ proposition.

Q2) History of this drug dates as early as 3,000 B.C. much before recorded history. Long before it illegally became a drug the leaves were chewed by the Indians of Peru and other South American countries. Then considered as a gift of gods was used during religious rituals, burials and for other special purposes. The Spanish church authorities initially banned it because they were convinced the effects of the leaf resulted from a pact between the devil and the Indians. Smart me has put this second 'cos i'm sure everyone knows the street name but just to make this tougher i'd rather have the chemical name instead. So the answer is B________ ??

Benzoylmethylecgonine popular as Cocaine. Cocaine is a naturally derived stimulant for the central nervous system refined from the coca plant. Upon ingestion, makes users feel on top of the world, stimulated, sexually aroused, have a sense of well-being and increased focus. On the other hand, you may get increased heart rate, violent, nausea, seizure, stroke, or heart attack. Stay away from the white lady! It is popularly known as coke, Charlie, C, white, Percy, snow, toot etc.

Q3) Easy one for the NRI junta or anyone else with a sharp GK. Which NBA team was named after the following quote by the British General Cornwallis, who when meeting resistance in North Carolina remarked, "There's a rebel behind every bush, it's a veritable nest of _______."

Charlotte Hornets

Q4) It is a parody of stereotypical American mass-produced beer:

poor-quality, cheap, and advertised everywhere. Its chief competitor is Fudd Beer, which is considered very popular in Shelbyville. Identify the brand of beer. Sitter foks!

Duff Beer (The Simpsons)... !

Q5) Scotland Yard's crime database is called home office large major enquiry system. As well, the training program is called "_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _" in honor of this great character. Fill in.

Elementary is the word. btw, Home Office Large Major Enquiry Systems is the expansion of HOLMES !

Q6) I am not really sure how true it goes, but Net rumour has it that newscasters in CNN are fined $100 if they use this particular word on-air ! Which word ? (Ted Turner does have his say in such matters. In fact this particular rule is because of a direct order from the man himself.) Naughty.. Naughty question!! Wink

Looks like the onlu un-cracked qs. The forbidden word is a "F" word... Not the usual one that we worry abt, but its "Foriegn". He wanted to make CNN a truly global channel without a single national identity. He thought that the best way to do this is by abolishing the use of the word "Foriegn" in CNN's news programmes.

q7)in 1894,sir dudley marjoribanks developed this and called it"the most excellent and pleasant companion for a gentleman's family".what?

the golden retriever.

q8)Which was the first company to file a patent for the "Sound" its product made? Workable now that the answer is H_________

Harley Davidson Inc.[for its potato potato sound]

q9) Another easy one for the beginners. This company was incorporated in 1911 as C – T – R company. What is its present name?

IBM.

q10) To end with simple Pink Floyd trivia. Which song's final lines are: 'And what exactly is a dream? And what exactly is a joke?'

Jugband blues...

Hope you guys had fun.. shall try for the next set soon.

Hi, new to the Forum. Cool for quizzaholics like me.

1. A friend sugested 'Pink Fluid' to signify(metaphorical) blood which has diluted because of the materialist and capitalist nature creeping into the world. Being Irish he pronounced it Floyd. The name sounded nice so they adopted it with the changed spelling.

2. Jethro Tull

3. Smoke on water

But if that is the funda - then shouldn't the name be 'Water on Smoke' coz they are throwing water on their burning desire to tape a footage at the venue??

4. Judas Priest

5. The Doors - Morrison

(I tend to get carried away when giving funde)

OK, so I was supposed to post a Quiz related to finance but after a lots of thinking on 'what to ask' I decided to change the subject from Finance to Cricket History (sari YCR babu :) ).

So here we go.

1. Easy one to begin with. On which ground did Kapil Dev took 5 wickets for 28 against Australia inspite of being injured, to help India earn one of its most famous overseas victories over the aussies in there own backyard?

2. Which Windies player earned the name 'Padams" for his execessive use of pads to keep the Indian spinners at bay during their tour of 93-94?

3. This Kiwi Batsman was responsible for Sachin Tendulkar not becoming the youngest ever to score a ODI hundred when he caught him 12 runs short of the mile stone. Name him. Try it, its not that difficult

4. He became the only US prez to witness a Cricket Test Match when he watched the Pak Vs Aus game during the 1975 tour of Pakistan by Australia. Name him.

5. This Aussie player was diagnosed with Cancer in his Ribs just after he had made his debut for the national team. He however didnt give up. Not only did he overcome the cancer, he also managed to score one of the fastest ODI fifties, 50 in 18 balls! Kaun hai woh?

6. It is a well known fact that foreigners find it very difficult to pronounce Indian names esp. the South Indian ones like LaxmanSivaRamaKrishnan! so they used to find some suitable english versions of the Indian names. This Indian player was nick named Rent-a-Wagon. Give me his real name.

7. And Finally, If Pigeon = Glenn Mcgrath, Big Bird = Joel Garner then Bigbird II = ?
