Its going to be a tie w/ XXX at the box office.HG will be critically acclaimed but xXx will suck. The reveiws of xXx are already bad.Apparently the story makes no sense.

But after I saw the trailer for HG,I was excited. It is going to rock. And there are going to be many fans of the book who will make this movie a blockbuster.Including families because the movie is PG and xXx is PG-13.

I doubt that it will release in Hyderabad because only the top movies are released.

Since a thread like this seemed incomplete without words from a total H2G2 convert like me , here are they are.

I have never seen any movie that has ever matched a book, let alone surpass it. I know there are ardent Godfather fans who may not agree but even those movies do not hold even a candle to the book.

A move on H2G2? I do not see how it is even possible to translate on film. How are you going to show the two heads of Zaphod Beeblebrox, and yet make him look like a complete idiot? How will you show Marvin, the Paranoid Android? What about the insect who works as the receptionist at the headquarters of the Guide? Or the ridiculous things like a sofa materialising on Lords Cricket Ground, a bowl of petunias converting into a sperm whale, or a dual sunrise?

May be you can. But the beauty of the thing lies in letting people imagine it, not to have someone imagine it for them. What I am skeptic about is that if the movie is not made well, those who have never read the book may feel that it was a stupid piece of work.

What makes the book amazing are those little italicized text where they describe how the Total Perspective Vortex came about, or the importance of a towel, or even the whole basis behind infinite probability. I do not see how that can be translated on screen. The thing is that it is this complete overpowering ridiculousness in it that makes the book as amazing as it is.

Kubrick said something like if it can be imagined, or written down, then it can be filmed. I agree it'll be hard to get the complexities and subtle humour in it though.

i'd love to see it directed by Terry Gilliam, Adams had a similar style and sense of humour to the Python crew (i think they all went to cambridge together, or something)

Let me go on a tangent here a little. I do not know what the casting is like. And those who do, please shut up! :D I came up with actors who I would like to play certain characters in the Guide. Here is my wish list. What's your take?

Arthur Dent - Tom Hanks (who else?)

Ford Prefect - Mike Meyers

Trillian - Brittany Murphy

Zaphod Beebleborx - Ashton Kutcher

Fenchurch - Natalie Portman

Marvin - Brent Spiner

Well be happy that most of the actors in the movie are british. My fav. book(Umm The Jackal) has been butchered by hollywood by casting The Jackal as an american. :x Even my fav. director is screwing a clasic by making War of the World in the present time and basing it in America.
