ycr007 wrote:My Point is,I have seen parents Goad their children into the ENgineering Stream
Sometimes Only coz the Colleague's Son is an Engineer who's doing well.
They don't ask the child what does he /she wants to become. And Lemme
tell u an example where a Sister of My Friend,After Completing B.Tech, and
slogging at iFlex for sometime,is now preparing for MBBS.Only coz her
interests lay in MEdicine since the beginning and only due to her parents
goading, she joined Engg. But Now she's pursuing what she likes because
now she can face upto her parents.
Now the loss is entirely hers. After 5 years in Engg,Now another 10 years
will be gone in MBBS.Not to think of the Laughs & giggles She'll get Jus'
to have pursued her dream.

IMO,This mentality of parents that they should decide the career of their
children as a parallel to someone else's carre should go away.
Jus' coz Dad's Colleague's Son is Well-off at Infy,why Should I veer
away from my Dreams n aspirations!!!!

Also many Youngsters, even before completing their 4 year degree are
so vexed up with life and its intermittent struggles that they totally
lose confidence in themselves. And End up as Wastrels.

Well u cant really blame da mentality of parents...coz acc. 2 them..they think they r doing jst the right thing for their kids and most of the time the children dont even bother 2 show them an alternate path.. I think a percentage of them jst follow thro wid their parents dreams n aspiration coz they havent thought of any emselfz.

So after sloggin halfway thro' ...whn they get sick n tired of everythin they jst simply blame it on their parents ( itz always easier 2 blame stuff on others regardless of if they were responsible or nt ), itz nt like da kids were forced 2 do anythin at gun point.

They really should have da strength n will power 2 choose wht they want n prove tht they really did made da best out of it!

How did I miss this thread...

Mark, as a senior in the same field, I ought to guide you on the right path to attain decent work-life balance and generally have a wholesome healthy lifestyle. Here are the 5 things you should incorporate from today.

1. You don't seem to be spending any quality time chatting to colleagues around printers (you have to print something every couple of hours), kitchen/tea/coffee machine areas, toilets, corridors. In other words you must network more. Keeps you informed about office gossip + any interesting openings coming up in the company. Or gives you ideas to create your own role as you see a need for it.

2. Install msn/yahoo messenger and catch up with friends. Chat to friends at work and spread above gathered gossip.

3. This is very important. Take a holiday every three months. Go somewhere very nice. When you are back from hols, you have something to chat about at places mentioned in 1. When this dries out it wil be time to plan the next holiday and chat about that. Ofcourse you have internet at your disposal to research and book your hols.

4. Organise team outings. This will make you popular, increases your networking circle to management level plus gives you a very good reason to stand about discussing the arrangements.

5. Remember if you don't have a job you can't take decent hols. So be happy you have a job. But secretly wish for your company to go to the dogs. Hopefully you'll get made redundant, i.e., get paid to leave. Have a great holiday before you find your next job.

In terms of job satisfaction and motivation, i think i am in a perfect job, ther is always some thing new to do everyday i come to work.

It is only a survival tactic for as long as you have to endure in your current job, son. 30 years, oh no, within the next 3 years you will be doing more interesting stuff provided you keep your eyes and ears open. Until then, have fun :-)

In the immortal words of the Marquis de Sade "Imperious, choleric, irascible, extreme in everything, with a dissolute imagination of the like which has never been seen, atheistic to the point of fanaticism, there you have me in a nutshell and kill me again or take me as I am, for I shall not change"
