Practical Guide To Healthier LifeGood health and staying fit without any disease is a dream for all of us. It is not easy and requires a lot of hardwork and determination. But will that discourage you from doing something that would make you look as young as your son/daughter even at 60? Know your body today and do all that is possible to make this dream a reality.
There are four major constituents for good health:
Proper nourishment through nutrients
Efficient functioning of the excretory organs through regular secretion
Stimulating the respiratory and circulatory systems through exercise
Balancing of the endocrine and nervous systems through yoga
PROPER NOURISHMENT
Satvic food like vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products increase energy level and reduce incidence of heart ailments, diabetes and hypertension. Sometimes our diet is energy-usurping and acid-producing blocking proper drainage.
Eat more frequently and never skip meals. Grazing is better for you than gorging. Your goal should be to eat approximately every three hours. Establish scheduled meal times and stick to them. Regularity in your eating habits is critical.
Frequent eating speeds up your metabolism due to the thermic effect of food
Frequent meals prevent binges and control cravings
Frequent meals maintain high energy and insulin levels by regulating blood sugar
Frequent eating promotes better utilisation of nutrients
Eating smaller meals more often reduces fat storage through portion control.
Taper your calories. Make breakfast your largest meal and dinner your smallest. There’s an old saying, ‘‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.’’ Start eating early in the day and eat your last meal at least two or three hours before bedtime. Maintain a consistent eating pattern seven days a week.

THE ROLE OF YOGA
Medical science has recognised yoga’s therapeutic value in balancing the nervous and endocrine systems. It has proved effective as an alternative therapy in asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and digestive disorders. Yoga is the science of right living and needs to be incorporated in daily life as a culture. Yoga promotes regeneration and ensures that the body is aligned in the way God programmed it.
Practising yoga and pranayama nourishes the whole body, stimulates the brain centres and raises the energy level. Anger and anxiety are dispelled and provides tranquillity, concentration and a strong memory.
Depletion of energy leads to deterioration of the organs and metabolic dysfunction and yoga reverses this process.
