Patriotism doesnt make one rich :) Read up how he earned so much money. He basically takes over sick steel plants at ridiculously cheap price and turns them around. The romanian steel plant, his latest aquisition was purchased for 1$.

Why should we be proud of him? because he still carries an Indian passport.

Why didnt he invest in our steel plants? There are 101 reasons for that and I dont know even one of them :?

But people are trying to get him to invest the money in India.
May the Fries be with you!

indian, has he done anything for the ppl here?

I admit that even I am an Indian & I have'nt done anything for the ppl

here but I am no LNM.I don't tell that if u r rich,u gotta do something for the

ppl.No,thatz philanthropic and u don't remain Rich if u r philanthropic.

But atleast he cud have tried something that wud have generate employment

in india.Abt the steel plant ,i read somewhere that he categorically refused

to be a part of a JV in India.

Another interesting bit'o'news:

Rupees 1,100,000,000,000. Or Rs 110,000 crores!

That's the approximate amount of money the world's third richest man Lakshmi N Mittal is valued at.

What can a man do with that kind of money? Well, with that:

*

He can wipe out the entire debt of cash-strapped Maharashtra (Rs 105,000 crore at last count) and still have enough small change (Rs 5,000 crore) to be counted among the country's rich and famous.

* He can four- or six-lane all of India's national highways two times over. (Government estimates say that the ambitious highway project would cost India Rs 55,000 crore).

* He can buy 4,400,000 (44 lakh) Maruti 800 cars. That means he can buy every Maruti 800 sold in India for the next 34 years! (calculated at today's prices, assuming that 130,000 Maruti 800s are sold each year).

* Or, if Marutis are not his style, he can buy 22,000 of the Rs 5-crore Maybach luxury cars.

* He can clear off over 20% of India's external debt of about $120 billion.

* He can buy 35% of all of India exports this year (India's exports touched a record $70 billion this year).

* He can eat McDonalds Family Value Meal (@ Rs 199 twice a day) for the next 7,500,000 years!

* He can stay at Taj Mahal hotel's (Mumbai) grand luxury suite (@ Rs 42,650 per night) for 70,661 years (you could lop off a couple of thousand years if he's ordering room service).

* He accounts for 3.84% of India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) -- which in 2004-05 was approximately at $650 billion.

* He can make rupee millionaires of the entire population of the cities of Howrah or Meerut or Varanasi or Nashik (these cities have populations between 10 lakh to 11 lakh as per the 2001 census).

* Give every Indian (Yes, you, me and the rest of the billion of us) $25 (Rs 1,084).

*

He can also fly 55 million Indians to and fro London on Air-India flights (with air fares plummeting Air-India is offering a one-way fare to London of about Rs 20,000)!

*

He already owns the world's most expensive housewhich he bought last year in central London at a stunning price of $128.25. He can buy 190 more of those at yet have over half-a-billion dollars left at his disposal.

Mittal's 25 billion dollar-notes would weigh 2.5 million kg (a dollar bill weighs 1 gram).

Note: All figures have been rounded off for easy comprehension. All rupee figures are approximate. The value of the dollar (which is at Rs 43.54 currently) has been calculated @ Rs 44.

I agree that Every1 wants to become rich. But if Being Rich is ur sole
target then why to have some person who is the 3rd Richest in the world,
why not THE richest man?
But if the Goal is to be the Richest INDIAN,then LNM Is da best Goal u say.
But Ain't Premji & Narayana Murthy better role models than LNM?
Atleast they have Riches+Respect as well. I shall be Clicheing if i say
that one is not gonna take his walth to heaven when he dies.
But LNM is not too bad a person either. Its just that his indifferent
attitude towards the land of his birth somewhere disturbs me.

Just because more Indians know abt Premji or murthy and LNM is a
relatively obscure person for most. But that maybe coz he lives in UK &
not India.
But have u noticed that LNM makes the news only when his Riches r concerned....
"LNM Buys So-so corp for $$$$"
"LNM Spends 20Mn$ on Daughter's Wedding"
"LNM is 3rd Richest in the world"
"LNM buys 120Mn$ House in London"

and so on......

ycr007"I agree that Every1 wants to become rich. But if Being Rich is ur sole target then why to have some person who is the 3rd Richest in the world, why not THE richest man?[/quote]

That makes absolutely no sense.

IMO its really unfair that you are LNM bashing just because you believe he isnt doing anything for our country. Maybe he's pissed at our country because of some dark incidents in his life. Why does that lead us to question his morals. ethics and patriotism? Arent we being shallower than we are meant to be?
I agree with CAD's point
[quote="CAD wrote:

Lets look at it this way....if a man of LNM's stature should build colleges and schools for his country(like you said), then men of our stature should be doing something in our own way and relative to our own wealth. Lets go plant saplings.......how much sense does that make?

how many of us do not want to become rich?

I agree that Every1 wants to become rich. But if Being Rich is ur sole
target then why to have some person who is the 3rd Richest in the world,
why not THE richest man?
But if the Goal is to be the Richest INDIAN,then LNM Is da best Goal u say.
But Ain't Premji & Narayana Murthy better role models than LNM?
Atleast they have Riches+Respect as well. I shall be Clicheing if i say
that one is not gonna take his walth to heaven when he dies.
But LNM is not too bad a person either. Its just that his indifferent
attitude towards the land of his birth somewhere disturbs me.

he hasnt coz of our stupid laws. maybe now since or ecomony is more liberal, he can have a relook...but ultimately he's a businessman...he'll put money where there are good returns...dunno what is the status of the steel industry in india....

I agree that the Situation here is not good for him to investing but there
are other areas too....

as I said b4,philanthropy is not the route but maybe he can start off
something like Colleges or Institutes etc....

I agree with CAD's point

why are rich people expected to do all that as soon as they gain riches? why cant they enjoy their wealth by themselves without others trying to get them on a guilt trip abt the amt of money they earned

Lets look at it this way....if a man of LNM's stature should build colleges and schools for his country(like you said), then men of our stature should be doing something in our own way and relative to our own wealth. Lets go plant saplings.......how much sense does that make?
