no, the cashews u get in the market are all "cured". the cashew fruit produces an acid that wud burn the mouth or the skin on contact and this acid is present in the nut too. the "raw" nuts are seperated and processed (dried etc) before sale.

The nuts themselves aren't poisonous. The problem is that there is a toxic substance in the shell lining (the same oil as poison oak and poison ivy), and if it gets on the nuts and is ingested it can cause a lot of problems.



Generally, cashews are steamed open and then roasted. I believe the heat of the process destroys the oil. Even "raw" chashews have usually been steamed and so aren't really "raw."

mmm... I dunno abt cashew fruits... my relatives had cashew tree and we used to eat both fruits and cashews raw. Its very sticky (Jeedi ) May be its not poisonous enough to make a person sick.
