Any Formula 1 Fans there????

by ycr007 » Sun Oct 24, 2004 2:30 pm

I know Hyderabadis love their Cricket, but Formula 1 is steadily gaining in popularity since the Former CM initiated steps to bring it to Hyd.Well, the idea looks bleak as of now but who knows............

So any F1 fans out there? Almost all F1 fans are fans of Michael Schumacher but I AM NOT. Agreed that MS is a good, maybe Great driver but his attitude needs a lot to be desired.Arrogance spouts from his every angle and why should'nt he be?? After all he is the 6 time Champion. And is heading for a seventh one.Still he leads the championship by a long margin and his teammate Rubens seems to consolidate his second position. It remains to be seen who takes the third spot between Button & Alonso. Also the Constructor's race for 2nd spot too is hotting up among BMW,Renault & BAR.With the season coming to an end,Next year is eagerly awaited for as many teams will have changed and we;ll have noticeably chops n changes it will ensure More wheelbanging to be xpected.

Well,I am a BIG McLaren Fan.I was an ardent fan of Ayrton Senna before his untimely demise. Then i cheered for Mika Hakkinen & now Kimi Raikkonen is my No.1.I have no doubt that Kimi, alongwith Alonso,Sato n Button are the stars of the future.Formula1 now being what it is,it can grow more & more popular as Tobacco Advertising Bans & Rising Costs, drive it to Newer venues. And a whole lot of fans get addicted to the fast lane.

Of late watching F1 has become boring for all the non-schumi fans. Its been a one-man Race and that is reflected in the slump in the TV ratings. In hidsight, there is no one to blame but Michael Schumacher. His & Ferrari's Hegemony have made F1 as dull and drab as ditchwater. The FIA needs to put on its thinking caps and hammer out a quick n effective way to make this sport more engrossing and captivating as it was before.

Formula 1 was quite interesting there were many Edge-of-the-seat moments in the last part of the past decade, when Hakkinen,Villeneuve,Hill n Schumacher's Rivalry was very intense & Dramatic. The races involving these terrific and thoroughly competitive drivers were always nail-biting.But the flavour has somewhat diminished over the last few years;what with Hakkinen,Hill,Villeneuve,Irvine & Frentzen Retiring and Michael & Ferrari increasing their dominance. But the new kids on the block like Kimi,Alonso,Montoya,Trulli,Button,Sato have brought a cheerful attitude to the sport which has yet to translate into the kind of intensity that is expected of them.Maybe some years from now on, these new crusaders may bring about the Renaissance that F1 so desperately needs now...................

Another F1 fan here although haven't been able to catch-up on the action since ESPN & Star Sports aren't being telecast :x. I'm was a fan of Mika Hakkinen when he used to race. The 2000 season rivalry between Michael Schumacher & Mika was absolutely amazing to watch. These two would literally burn the track. Now my favourite racer is Kimi but he has a lot of work ahead. He is still young, he'll learn, I hope ;)

You can say that again.2000 was an awesome year for F1.I was always a fan if Mclaren and F1 but stopped watching it 1yr ago after Schumacher started wining every single game and the rivalry in which was there in 2000 was absent. :)

Just caught the webcast of the last race of the season (The  our cable operator cut out StarSports.Grrrrr!!!!)and was Thrilled to bits.Biggest thrill was that Juan Pablo n Kimi came 1st n 2nd and they are gonna race together Next year.Thatz one Great ending and it raises umpteen hopes for next year.Ferrari was beaten altough Rubens ended up 3rd in his home grand Prix.Bechara Button's Engine blew up otherwise his would have been a 12th or 13th podium finish this year. Not bad for a rookie.

Anyway, this year has been Over Dominated by Schumi and its only fair to say that all the others have taken an entire year to Get better. No doubt that Ferrari also will be a notch better next year.Remains to be seen how the others cope up..........

Until Next Year..................Kimi Raikkonen........Hip Hip Hurray........

McLaren,Montoya n Kimi......All the best for Next year..........

Hi Vivek,

Nice to see such a dedicated F1 fan.And ur website, though does'nt cover everything,is a pretty decent one.As for me I prefer http://www.formula1.com and http://www.f1-live.com and a slew of other websites which cater to a wide spectrum of F1 fans.

Though your website has a link to a Discussions Board on F1,I am yet to come across a completely Indian (Or at least a majority of them) F1 Forum.Do u know any such fora??

I am an ardent F1 fan and used to watch it ever since Star sports used to broadcast it in India.i was and still am a big Fan of Mika Hakkinen & McLaren in particular.Though Ferrari is a good team,my idea was to support a Team which was competitive as well as did'nt have a I-am-the-best Attitude. In the earlier days i used to cheer for Ayrton Senna,Mika Hakkinen,Damon Hill,Eddie Irvine,HHFrentzen etc Nowadays the young brigade is as talented and has an immaculate zeal for winning. The new kids on the block like Kimi,Alonso,Button,Montoya,Sato etc have loads of skills and more Importantly,do not have the kind of Attitude that Michael,Villeneueve, n to an extent Coulthard strut about with.

The last two years have been pretty much ragged as far as the viewers interests are concerned.IMO F1 has been on a steady decline since the Retirement of Mika Hakkinen. The metronomic rise of Schumacher actually started with this period when there were no worthy challengers to his dominance. The 2002 season witnessed a close contest which went down to the wire. But this season was as bland as it can get.In fact this was the first time I did not watch a Grand Prix over the weekend.Such was the dominance of the Scuderia that the outcome was decided before half of the season was over.

I sincerely hope that McLaren n BAR alongwith Williams n Renault would come up with a much better display next year. Not to forget that Ferrari also would have upped its ante. So would it be once again a One-Prancing-Horse Race or would it be a keen tussle, it remains to be seen.............

Hello to all the F1 fanatics out there. The 2005 F1 season is just 45 days

away (as on 20 January 2005, 08.36 PM). Toyota, Sauber and BAR have

launced their new cars so would Williams on 31st. So lets discuss the season

as it unfolds. This season looks to be one of the most interesting one of the

recent times. As all the teams except Ferrari have changed their drivers and

a new team has come up (RedBull). Schumi has returned to the testing track,

lets see how much resistance can the other teams provide ferrari *SIGH*.

Hope to see another Red Wash. Anyways your views here.

I think Raikkonen and Montoya on the same team will be a force to reckon with. Guess McLaren has a better chance this year with these two on their team. Red Bull, huh? Wait and watch, I guess ;)

I don't know how well Raikonnen and Montoya will get on since they are two number 1 drivers in the same team. Williams might be the surprise this year with Mark Webber who is a rising star, yes, time will tell.

No its Cannonball Run.Well CBR used to run during the 70ies.Then it got banned. In 99 some guys again started Gumball Run.They have already held 3 races. One in Australia,Europe and one in USA.Now its the biggest race in Europe and Africa. :D Adrian Brody took place in the Europe one and lost.

There were actual Cannonball Run races in the 1970s, the last one was won by a Jaguar XJS in 1979. These road races inspired the 1976 film "The Gumball Rally" starring Raul Julia (Adams Family). Then in the 80s there came the bigger budget Cannonball Run movies starring Burt Reynolds. Some trivia for you. :D

Feel of F1

Hyderabadi F1 fans provide an online forum for all the motor sport enthusiasts

Image

Left to right: Gautam Srivastava, Himanshu Shrivastava, and Pinnamaneni Sumanth sharing the `formula'

IN RECENT times Formula One racing has gained a lot of popularity among the youth. This is not surprising since F1 racing is all about speed and car control. Moreover Narain Karthikeyan's feats seem to have generated considerable attention in the media.

In Hyderabad a group of avid F1 fans like Chandrashekaran, Himanshu Shrivastava, Gautam Srivastava and Pinnamaneni Sumanth, all members of the Channel Formula One club have compiled a lot of information, which is available on http://www.themavericks.net/f1. Their objective is to help other fans and enthusiasts of the sport to enhance their knowledge, exchange views and opinions and stay in touch with the sport and with each other.

Chandrashekaran who works in a leading BPO is in charge of site content while Himanshu Shrivastava is the F1 domain expert. Gautam Srivastava is a graduate of IIM Bangalore and Pinnamaneni Sumanth has just completed his BE. They are all in their early twenties and all immensely interested in the various aspects of F1 racing.

Having been drawn together by a common interest they now hope to establish contact with other young people especially newcomers seeking more knowledge about the sport.

"We want to reach out to like minded people throughout India and in fact all across the world," says Chandrashekaran. "Our love for this sport has prompted us to do extensive research on every angle and now we are in a position where we have piled up a huge amount of data which can be of a lot of help to all enthusiasts," he adds.

For Sumanth, it was a love for the engineering aspects involved in the manufacture of F1 cars, which first drew his attention towards this sport.

"The F1 technology attracted me," says Sumanth. "Being from an engineering background I and my friends were very interested in understanding what went into the manufacture of F1 vehicles and what enabled them go so very fast."

But not all types of motor sports have caught their fancy, says Gautam Srivastava.

"Having taken up a liking for F1racing, which is the ultimate as far as motor sports is concerned, we do to find the same attraction for other categories. No doubt a lot of research and effort also goes into the other categories and they also have stiff competition. But F1 stands at the top," explains Gautam.

Himanshu Shrivastava who is a software engineer has been following the sport for more than ten years.

"When my friends and I became interested in this sport, getting information was very difficult since there was not much interest for the sport in India. We had a tough time in getting information about races, schedules, details of the participants and so on. But now all that has changed. The sport has gained a big image in India. Also thanks to internet we can get a lot of information very easily now," says Himanshu.

"We are totally non commercial. Our only aim is to get response and feedback from more people. We want to have the satisfaction of regular interaction with like minded people who share the same passion for this sport as we do," says Chandrashekaran.
