Guest editing yesterday's STOI (Sunday Times of India), our girl had the audacity to say that it was her Wimbledon junior triumph that gave India a place of pride in the hallowed grass of England and they didn't even know what the Indian flag looked like.
With all credit due to her achievements, this was an insult to past greats starting from Ramanathan Krishnan (Junior Wimbledon champ, Semi Finalist at Wimbledon Men's singles & once World No. 3); Vijay Amritraj (Twice Qtr-Finalist at the Men's singles @ Wimbledon, twice ATP Masters season ending champ and the greatest tennis player India has ever produced); Ramesh Krishnan (Wimbledon Junior champ); Leander Paes (Wimbledon Junior Champ & Men's doubles champ) and Mahesh Bhupathy (Wimbledon Men's doubles champ). Furthermore, talking of giant killing, Leander has beaten the then undisputable numero uno of tennis and probably the greatest ever, Pete Sampras.
And shame on the part of STOI to have gone ahead and published this infamy. They owe all sports lovers an apology.
P.S. : The same letter has also been sent to the editor of TOI, but as I've experienced before, such criticism is beyond what they can take and the letter won't be published.

she is just 18, and i dont really think she knows how to handle the media, let us allow her to grow up with age, one step at a time.
And i would say i d just take her game seriously, not her comments or what so ever.

Agreed. Even I've kept her game away from this. But she should have known better than to quote something that shows her seniors in bad light...and mind you...a couple of these seniors have been her mentors during her early grooming days. You don't talk of being a youth icon and make such gaffes.

but again Hp, even if we were to consider ur point, i dont think it is a very good for any sport to live on history, every generation has its own heroes and saviours, leander Paes is history now and the ones before them are ready enough to be forgotten already. like for exampple in cricket too, kris was a champion, but i am definite Shewag is the talk of the day and he is proud of himself.
well with sania, she says she ddid India proud and if she can live upto the expectations in the coming days, she ll go down into the books for ssome more time to come and if she does nt, she would stay as a one championship wonder.

I would have agreed with her had she said just that...but she said something altogether different. She said that she was the one who made India's presence felt at Wimbledon, which was wrong. Its like Shahrukh Khan claiming to be the one who showed producers what a hit film is.
And yes...we cannot forever live in history...but we cannot ignore it either. How would you react to Dhanraj Pillay saying that he is India's best ever hockey player? or for that matter how would you react to Sehwag saying that he's the greatest batsman ever to have worn India colours?

Trying to blow some sunshine into your @$$ didn't really work out...you're way too constipated for that....so I thought of blowing something else.
And lizzy...it wasn't just Sania's comments that I'd targetted in that post of mine. The bigger part of the blame lies with the newspaper which went ahead and published it.
