Job ideas?

Hey everyone! I live in the US now but am going to be in India for three months (June,July,August). I really have been out of touch with what the hiring situation's like in Hyd these days. I'm not a techie,I have a Master's in Econ from a top 15 university in the US.Any ideas what i could do for three months? It doesn't have to be connected to Econ. I mean it doesn't have to be a position in a bank or a consultancy. Are internships common at all? I just need to make some spending money (Is asking for 20,00 too much? )

dont do any job that someone else can do here - so u dont add to the general unemployment scene here



pun apart, i think u can approach the government with some ideas for research on the economics front... that might help the state or the country...

and ... yes... i really doubt u will get ur 20K from there...



and if u r looking at any damn job and just to earn money - i wud suggest - just go to a dollar store - pick up 500 figurines - strike a good deal with that indian/pakistani store owner and pay him just 450$ or less... come home and setup a shop and sell each figurine for anywhere between 200 - 500 Rs... make sure u have rented a good shop and spent some money on a good well lit and colorful board and i am sure u will earn ur 20K real easily... dont forget to put an ad in fullhyd... or atleast get coverage in the events page ...

for a person in yr stream and in a temp 3 month job, i think 20K is way too high. the high payers are IT, Banking/Finance and Insurance.



since IT is ruled out u can try some kinda internship at the other 2 sectors, that are booming with lots of private players.



since i am an IT guy i am not really aware of opps in those 2 areas, so i cannot be of much help at this point of time. all i can give u is my best wishes!

i feel 20K is not much if u really want to earn... ofcourse internships will not pay u that much... u have to really work for that kinda money...



what r the companies u might look for employement there once u r done with ur studies... did those companies set up shop here - may be u cud write to them...



but its great to hear that u want to earn some money when u r here on a holiday. and 20000 comes to what .... 400$ ? let us know if u did anything about it....

Just curious, do restaurants in Hyd have this concept of a hostess? In the US, a pretty young woman usually receives you up front, and puts you on a list for a table, then grabs a few menus and guides your party to your seats. Then the waiters take over. Maybe I can even be a hostess. Sorry for voicing my thoughts out y'all. I'm really anxiuos to find a job.I'd be bored if I didnt have anything else to do for three months!

i ahve seen hostesses in many high class restaurants in hydbad....maybe u can try there too....(and ensure the FHDBians a discount )



if u have gr8 communication skills u can try event management companies or do campaigns/road shows for corporates

If money is the only criteria, then cut short ur vacation by two weeks and work in US in some restaurant or motel where u can easily earn $400. That way u can have a bindas time in India without any worry.

If you want to work to gain show some India experience in your resume, then I am afraid that 3 months is a very short time to find meaningful employment. Besides, hotel receptionist is not the kind of experience you would like to put on a resume along with MS in economics.

If work is a way to pass time, then you can work for any NGO for the length of your stay.

Thanks for the input MM. I really don't want to be deported so I'm not taking risks with working off-campus here in the US. I don't intend to put whatever job on my resume if I dont think its relevant to my career. And lastly, I do need the dough, biding time is a perk that comes with the salary and not vice-versa!

Try any Voice Data center...guess they won't have to train you for accent...



on serious note - you can try some research agencies... IMRB....gartner...IDC...they have offices in Hyd



and maybe try a project with some company.....am not sure abt IT companies.....float around ur resume...internships are not in vogue except for MBA students and that too are generally arranged by the B schools...



when i hyd contact Indian School of Business.....maybe some profs might give u some research project......dough might not be big there....but 20,000 seems possible if u are able to contribute to their thesis or research paper



during my MBA internships ( we had two..one for 2 months and one for 6 months)..i got stipends of 6000 pm in one place and 8000 pm in second....

Since you said that you are going to India for 3 months, I assumed that you have graduated and on OPT now, which makes off-campus work legal.

IMO three months is a very short time to find a job, especially so in India where there are hundreds of graduates willing to work for much lesser than what you are expecting.

S...depending on how long you've been in the states, you can try out your hand at something which is a good short time money spinner. You can be an accent/culture trainer for BPO training institutes. You can easily make 20K or nearabouts in this kind of an assignment. I'm talking fulltime here. And you also have a part-time option that pays proportionately.
