Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.

Well I dont think there is anything wrong in that. thats the Indian spirit I guess, celebrate each others festivals. Moreover some of us here are christians and some live overseas where majority of pop is christian... so it makes sense.

I remember, when I was in India, my father used to wake me up on every festival morning and wish me 'Merry christams' or 'Id mubarak' and give a hug and then I used to celebrate the festival by not taking bath the entire day, cos its a holiday

Even today, in true christmas spirit, I didnt bathe

Kinda agree.....have lived here for 20+ yrs and frankly the gift giving thing and all hasn't really caught on except if u r Christian....

I spent 16 of my 17 yrs of education in a convent school/college so for me Christmas symbolises a festive season yes and cake and carols! I know the Nativity play like I scripted it!!! :D I remember the nuns being particularly good-natured during this season...!! :P

The best part? The Chuttis/Christmas holidays of course......damn! Do I miss them!

Whee......Even I too did all my schooling in a Convent and tats why

Christmas has always been something more than Jus' a Holiday.

We used to have Carol competitions within the Houses and as well as

Plays n SKits.I remember I was Joseph for three years Running while

in Lower Classes But Later years saw myself as ....Surprise.....Surprise...

None other than "Santa Claus"

(itz another matter that I was selected coz I was same in Size)

I also valued Christmas at home since Our Immediate Neighbours were

an Old Christian Couple with no children,So I n My Bro' wud be the Guests

at their Christmas Dinners...Boy I sure Miss those Puddings.....

Evenings wud be spent at the Church in our street..Lighting candles etc

The only Present I got this year was a Nice Li'l Scented Candle a la

Dimple's from a friend of mine......

Christmas (and particularly this week) has become very commercialised in the US and is so out of tune with the real essence of the season! When I was in India, we used to go to orphanages and homes for the aged on Christmas eve and of course to church on Christmas day. We'd have guests from early morning till late night. But here in the US, barring a few conservative places like Kansas, the majority is into "exchanging gifts" or shopping.. makes me sick! Many of the churches are closed because nobody is in town (heck, in Hyderabad, if you reach church late for the Christmas service, you have to stand because of lack of enough chairs).

Its not about Christmas "becoming popular" in India; its more to do with entertainment companies like Archies, Hallmark, etc making a kill with their projection of the western concept of Christmas into India. Look at the way Halloween has entered India.. Halloween has nothing to do with any religion - it is a western festival for confusing ghosts by dressing up as ghosts. I was so surprised when I read stuff like "What did you do on Halloween?" on deccan.com. Where the heck does Halloween come in? Oh yeah.. Archies and Hallmark (and the other MNC companies) with their advertising! 8-)

Thanks man :) Yes I will include Happy New Year too.

I made a small error in my script, and the original beautiful green colour is all mucked up (it shows a dull green). I'll set it right tomorrow.
