Nomenclature

And this has nothing to do with me being inspired by SS, but what if your parents gave you a chance to name yourselves and not go by the weird names they stamped or baptised for you to go by. It may or may not be true that we actually hate our names, but there is nothing as creative in the known universe as the human mind(still trying to understand how it works). What would it be?

P.S: this has nothing to do with me calling myself dethslut for a few days.

Well I am really happy with my name.

A question over to you.

What is the name that you have heard and made you think over twice.?

For me most of the Asian names as

Jigme Sunge Wang Chuk. Had come for the SAARC summit had me go bonkers (was in 3 or 4) and could not comprehend why would someone keep a name like that.

Then there are those Gujju names.

Khimji Buttonwala

Ramjo Trunkwala

Dawood Humamwala

Rasheed Tyrewala.

well every town in Ireland claims to have a girl called Fonda Cox living there. rural legend i suppose

What i always think is weird is how if a celebrity has a strange name, it doesn't seem at all strange. like if you met someone in real life called Cameron Diaz you'd be rolling on the floor laughing for a minute or two. Or Humphery Bogart. strange.

Have you seen the Crocodile Dundee movie where Mick Dundee talks about his friend Mel Gibson, who later turns out to be Mal Gibson, short for Malcolm Gibson - Malakpet Masala might relate to this one :D

i like my name, bcuz my parents mis-read the name in an urdu book (dont ask me how. one of the nuances of the lang, I spose), and instead of 'Shurhabeel', they read it as 'Sharjeel', which is a (rare) name in its own right. So me has a very exclusive name.

About other names, I absolutely love the names Ali, Hamza and Umar (or Omar or Omier). I will change my name to these two anyday. but there are too many Ali's and Umar's and Hamza's in my family, so no go :( .

happy with mine.

by Reality,,its here.Accept it. » Mon Dec 13, 2004 2:35 pm

I can not say that I am totally happy with my name but its just about okay.

It served its purpose and has its advantages, being a relatively less used one.

It has a high recall value because its not a common name. and I did have some funny anecdotes related to my name too.

And to think of it that even my parents did not know the meaning of my name , my mom says she picked it because it rhymed with my brother's name.

Someone told me the meaning only a few weeks before and I loved the meaning.:) . So here i am , named without knowing the meaning but the meaning actually being better than any I would have thought of myself.

Maybe parents know the best anyways.:)

hahaa... that reminds me of an incident. I had this class mate named revanth and no one knew its meaning, not even him. every one liked his name cos its very rare and the guy is very sweet, bhola bhala type guy. One day our lecturer asked him if he knew the meaning of his name and he said no. then the lecturer told him that revanth means someone who cleans horses  Man, we had such a good laugh that day.

name...

by Reality,,its here.Accept it. » Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:17 pm

While on the topic of names, I guess one of the reasons I like my name is that it saved me in a couple of viva voce exams when the examiners were more interested in what my name meant than what i knew about the subject.:). So there I was happily yapping away about my name while the precious moments ticked away for them.:))

In reference to wierd celebrity (and their kids) names, I have a few to laugh at:

-Phineus (Julia Roberts' son)

-Coco (Courtney Cox's girl)

-Denim (Toni Braxton's son)

-Apple (Gwen Paltow's girl)

-Mother Love (Talk show host)

-Flannery (dave Chappel's girl)

Anyway, Im sure people here make fun of my name behind my back, so Im even now :) I like my name, its different and not many (actually no one Ive ever known) shares my name. It fits me like a glove :D
Is that a pistol in your pocket, or are you pleased to meet me?

Might be he was born when ppl were thinking it would fall in India.

My Dad said, at that time in villages everybody killed and cooked thier hens, goats, etc, had good food and were having merry thinking SKYLAB would fall on them and they would die.

in the late '70s, an american space station "Sky Lab" went out of control and started hurtling towards earth. all over the world, ppl waited for it to crash in their neighborhood :D i remember my school declared holiday for two days around the expected crash schedule and temples were over-flowing with desparate worshippers :D

i think it finally landed in the pacific ocean.
