Should tendulkar be dropped along with Sehwag????

by Pavan » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:58 am

This is my first post.. recently I got to know about this site..

I am not a big fan of cricket but I read abt it and get to know many things. My roomie is a big cricket buff.. I felt bad about how Ganguly was taken away from the team for bad performance and slot for youngsters..

One thing now I dont get is Tendulkar has not been playing for quite a while. Shoudn't he be removed from the team?? Is he not equal to others? Even Sehwag in that case...

-Pavan

P.S: no offence to those who are die-hard tendulkar fans.. but yeah.. think..

I think he has shown his godliness only few times!!!! I dont know why people treat him like that.. I didnt see the match but I read people "boooed" him when he got out..

Ganguly also should hv been excused for a bad patch and shd hv taken into the team :-)

I think anyone in Virus position would hv played that match and won.. If u hv sent Kumble or Pathan also, they would hv played as everyone knew it was not a big target..

lets see how Tendulkar is going to play the next match anyways...

May be... from my limited knowledge

wht do u mean by 'only few times?'
the reason u dont knw why ppl treat him like tht cld b coz u have not followed his career properly. Theres no point comparing Sachin with Ganguly coz they r two different players altogether. Further, i feel Ganguly was dropped more due to the internal politics than performances.

ur lack of cricketing knowledge on display again!
Upto tht point he was struggling to score runs. in the 1st innings he got out cheaply and was under pressure. and the pitch was detiriorating as well. in such a situation, scoring 75 odd runs is a big achievement. of course had he got out, you'd have said 'cdnt score even 140?'

i'll be interested in seeing tht as well. he looks to b under pressure..created more by himself thn neone else. i hope he gets out of it.

True...Ganguly and Sachin are different players and should not be compared matter-of-factly. But then, isn't there a comparable similarity between the way people were baying for Ganguly's blood when he was going through a bad patch and when Sachin gets booed off Wankhede?

Its just the ungrateful Indian cricket "fan". I saw a stark disconnect between the initial public outcry against Ganguly being in the team at the height of the Chappell-Ganguly controversy and the way people rallied behind him after the selectors juggled with him during the Lanka and the Pakistan series. I have no idea what he did in the interim to engineer the sudden change in public opinion. 90% of the people "following" cricket in India know Jack Shit about the game.

And guys....Sachin deserves a lot better than being booed off. Absolutely rubbish on the part of those who indulged in such lowliness.

To be frank i was initially in favor of dropping ganguly as i thot it was his performance tht was the reason. but soon enuff it became very clear tht it was politics. However, in case of sachin we all knw he can comeback netime. his record is a proof of tht.

I was shocked y'day evening to see zee news airing a program on the lines of 'is sachin's career over' or something like tht. WTF? Its this kind of media hype tht drives peoples emotions, esp those people, who as HP sar put it 'know Jack Shit about the game'. Sadly, they far outnumber the real followers.

cricket is the mass game, we in the subcontinent take it seriously and emotionally. cricketers have the demigod status.but when the same criketers fail to perform they are treated in the worst possible form. cricket is a mind game. everyone knows what sachin is to indian cricket he single handedly pulled up so many matches to win but when the same man does not perform people start booing. imagine the kind of pressure he might be under. everyone fails and rises again to the top. does'nt this same theory apply to sachin. give him a fair chance to show his talent. remember he has been in the game for the past 16 years and a consistant performer. there have been instances when players like Lara and Gavaskar and the other players have been on the down hill. what i feel is time will tell that sachin is the best and will always remain the best.
how happy is he born and free,
who serveth not anothers will,
whose armour is his honest thought and,
simple truth his utmost skill..........

hi @ akhil :)

I have a small question:

In my opinion there should be similar yardsticks to judge players immaterial of their reputation/hype. Atleast this is what the think tank has been emphasing - performance---

Now, I would like to understand what would have transpired in the team meeting prior to the second test against england...When they decided that they would be playing 5 bowlers then, were Laxman and Kaif left out by default or is there some critical reasoning behind it??? Also it would be intresting to know what "other names" would have been discussed to be dropped.....

its not their reputation....but their potential tht needs to b taken into a/c...apart frm the performances. for example virendra sehwag; we all know he can explode netime and win a match for us in no time. same is the case with sachin and ganguly as well. I believe u cant judge these ppl. based on their shortterm performances alone.

I can only make a guess, but here's my take neway:

According to the team mgmt. Yuvi had to play, he had played fantastically in Pakistan. I believe laxman was dropped for him. It was unfair to laxman...but thn i dont see neone else being the approppriate candidate. Kaif made way for a bowler. again not fair to him coz he had helped in saving the nagpur test. but then cricket has always been an unfair game at times. But we saw the result of picking five bowlers at mohali; we won the game coz of them. so the decision seems to have helped the team.

The only change i wld have made had i been in their place is tht, i wld have picked kaif over yuvi.

Tests Tough ... One Day Matches Appeal!

by HH » Wed Mar 22, 2006 8:23 pm

"Elders /Seniors" Had Long Essay Type Examinations ... Any Score Above 70 Was Tough Going ... "Juniors / Now" Students Are Happy With Short Answer Questions / Quizzes ... And Manage Ninety Plus Scores Yet May Not TOP! ...

Ergo, Cricket / Sports:
* Test Matches ... In Cricket Five Day Ordeals Tough ... Hence, One Day Matches Appeal To The Youthful Teams!
* Perform OR Perish ... Seniors / Juniors May Be Left Out / Eased Out ...
* "Bad Patch" Players Have To Be Reviewed / Counselled ...
* Consistent High Performance May Be Insisted Upon ... Especially As They Command / Receive High "Fees"!

Mr Tendulkar has already passed 17 years in international Cricket.

We beleive, he will remain in international Cricket, for 17 more years.
