Connection - Quiz

by Fiveten » Mon Jan 02, 2006 5:38 am

Here's a puzzler Quiz, I will simply call it Connections (not original, but should do.)

Objective is to identify a single personality.

There will be a set of four or more clues, each relating to the same person. One

or two of them could contain a direct reference to the name. Or the other clues

could be relating to circumstances around the personality.

For example, try the one below:

Example:

a. ben hur beheaded to be a scholar

b. 58

c. Rose in hole

d. Name sans quarter to be impartial

e. father of unspeakable barbie

Now, the results for the above example:

a. ben hur beheaded to be a scholar - ben hur beheaded - enhur - nehru, scholar - pandit, Pandit Nehru

b. 58 - Age at which Nehru became the prime minister

c. Rose in hole - The famous rose in his breast pocket

d. Name sans quarter to be impartial - quarter of name removed, becomes NAM, Non Aligned Movement, (impartial - non aligned), Nehru was one of the founders.

e. father of unspeakable barbie - unspeakable - dumb, barbie - doll, dumb doll - gungie gudiya, indira gandhi, father of IG - Nehru

So the response is Nehru. But the fun is in trying to decipher through the differenct clues.

Connection 1, This is an easy one to start off.

a. twisted pomegranate in north

b. you and me, warm hearted in betweens!!

c. turmeric grown in valley

d. mixed trap and paternal head

e. kathiawari wasp

Please send the responses to socrates_1969@yahoo.com with subject - Connections. This is just to make sure that this remains fun for all. Will post the responses after a week.

Wish you all a happy new year.

Ok, week hasn't passed yet, but there are no responses. Understandably, this one was a bit tough.

Here are the responses:

Connection 1,

a. twisted pomegranate in north - Pomegranate in north is Anar, twisted Anar is RANA

b. you and ME, WARm hearted in betweens!! - MEWAR

c. turmeric grown in valley - turmeric - Haldi, valley - Ghati - HALDIGHATI

d. mixed trap and paternal head - mixed TRAP & PAternal head (head of paternal - PA), TRAPPA - PRATAP

e. kathiawari wasp - (this one probably was the toughest one) - Chetak - Rana Pratap's horse was of a Kathiawari breed. Wasp is also Vespa, a scooter. Bajaj Chetak....

So the personality here is Rana Pratap.

Allright, two sets of responses altogether for the Clues #2.

Solution was Salman Rushdie.

1.three quarters salt and man in hurry to die

three quarters salt - sal

man in hurry to die - man rush die

Salman Rushdie

2.Boabdil's ultimate breath

Boabdil, was the last emir of Granada, he was ousted by the Spanish forces in 1492 as partof the reconquest. As he fled, he supposedly looked back at his fortress-city, alhambra with certain nostalgia and regret, and has been depicted famously in paintings and literature as 'The last sigh of the Moor'.

Rushdie's 'The Moors Last Sigh' - is a reference to this.

3. the day of love when a waft of air came down --> Day of Love, feb 14th, A Waft - Fatwa. Fatwa was issued through broadcast on radio, in Iran by the Ayatollah on feb 14th.

4.lotus and goddess of money

lotus - padma

goddess of money - lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi, Salman Rushdie's current wife

5.last card is diamond joker - his latest work 'Shalimar The Clown'

Now, the scores. Beanik leads. Preetam got the solution, but he didn't weave through the clues, so restricted to 2 points.

1. Beatnik, 5 points

2. Preetam Akineni, 2 points.

Next set of clues have been posted at http://www._.net/forums/inde ... #entry4169, and will be posted here a bit later.
